Greenhouse cultivation technology has greatly contributed to the development of agriculture in Malaysia. Understanding how to monitor the greenhouse environment with high efficiency and low power consumption is particularly important. In this research, a wireless sensor network for agricultural greenhouses based on the improved Zigbee protocol is designed. Its hardware consists of various sensors and Zigbee nodes commonly used in agricultural greenhouses. On the basis of this hardware, this research designed the network topology of WMN (Wireless mesh network) by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of various topologies, and combined with this structure, proposed an improved ZigBee routing protocol EMP-ZBR to solve the question regarding energy loss and the network congestion of wireless networks. After testing EMP-ZBR and traditional Zigbee routing protocols, the improved EMP-ZBR protocol is superior to traditional Zigbee routing in terms of the end-to-end average delay, packet delivery rate, routing control overhead and routing discovery frequency, which were optimized about 1.1%, 15.2%, 15.2%, 8.1 ms in different mobile pause times, and 9.8%, 19.3%, 15.7% and 121 ms in different packet sending rates. The agreement proves that EMP-ZBR can more effectively alleviate the impact of congestion and improve the overall performance of the data monitoring system for agricultural greenhouses.

Conserving water resources from scarcity and pollution is the basis of water resource management and water quality monitoring programs. However, due to industrialization and population growth in Malaysia, which have resulted in poor water quality in many areas, this program needs to be improved. A smart water quality monitoring system based on the internet of things (IoT) paradigm was designed to analyze water conditions in real time and enable effective water management. Long-range (LoRa) application of the low-power, wide-area networking concept has become a phenomenon in IoT smart monitoring applications. This study proposes the implementation of a LoRa network in a water quality monitoring system-based IoT approach. The LoRa nodes were embedded with measuring sensors pH, turbidity, temperature, total dissolved solids, and dissolved oxygen, in the designated water stations. They operate at a transmission power of 14 dB and a bandwidth of 125 kHz. The network properties were tested with two different antenna gains of 2.1 dBi and 3 dBi, with three different spread factors of 7, 9, and 12. The water stations were located on the Sungai Pantai and Sungai Anak Air Batu rivers on the Universiti Malaya campus, Malaysia. Following a dashboard display and K-means analysis of the water quality data received by the LoRa gateway, it was determined that both rivers are Class II B rivers. The results from the evaluation of LoRa performance on the received strength signal indicator, signal noise ratio, loss packet, and path loss at best were −83 dBm, 7 dB, <0%, and 64.41 dB, respectively, with a minimum received sensitivity of −129.1 dBm. LoRa has demonstrated its efficiency in an urban environment for smart river monitoring purposes.

This paper comprehensively reviews advanced signal processing methods for partial discharge (PD) analysis, covering traditional time-frequency techniques, wavelet transform, Hilbert–Huang transform, and artificial intelligence-based methods. This paper critically examines the principles, advantages, limitations, and applicable scenarios of each method. A key contribution of this review is the systematic comparison of these methods, highlighting their evolution and complementary roles in processing non-stationary and noisy PD signals. However, a significant gap in current research remains the lack of standardized, explainable, and embeddable AI solutions for real-time, fine-grained PD classification. Future trends point to hybrid approaches and edge AI systems that combine physical insights with lightweight deep learning models to improve diagnostic accuracy and deployability.

Common power system restoration planning strategy is based on a ‘build up’ approach, where a blackout system is sectionalized among several islands for parallel restoration prior to resynchronization. In order to speed up the resynchronization of the islands, each island must have similar energizing times. However, there is a huge number of possible combinations of islands that can be formed. Thus, this paper proposes a method to determine optimal islands that have similar energizing times. The method involves identifying transmission lines that should not be connected to form the islands. The proposed method is based on the combination of heuristic and discrete optimization methods. The heuristic technique is proposed to find initial solution that is close to the optimal solution. This solution will guide the optimization technique, which is the discrete Artificial Bee Colony optimization method, to find the optimum solution. The proposed method also considers restoration constraints including black start generator availability, load-generation balance, and the maintenance of acceptable voltage magnitude within each island. The proposed method is validated via simulation using IEEE 39, 118-bus and 89-bus European systems. The advantage of the proposed method in terms of restoration time is demonstrated through a comparison with other literature.
