Prof.
Andrea Proto currently serves as Associate professor of Wood Technology and
Forest Operations at the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria - Dept.
of AGRARIA. He is President of BSc
degree in Forestry and Environmental Science, and he received his Ph.D in
Agricultural and Forestry Mechanization in 2007. He was a visiting scientist at
the Federal Forest Education Centre of Ossiach (Austria), and was a researcher
at the Trees and Timber Institute (IVALSA - CNR) in San Michele a/Adige (TN).
At
Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria - Dept. of AGRARIA, he is the
scientific coordinator of Laboratory of Silviculture, Wood Technology and
Forestry Mechanization, created with the aim of undertaking studies and
research in the Forest-Wood Supply Chain. The Laboratory ranges from the forest
knowledge obtained from dendro-auxometric and dendrochronological analysis to
the study, investigation, and testing, according to the most up-to-date
national and international standards (UNI EN ISO), of wood-based products. His research interests mainly include wood technology, forest operation, cable
extraction, wood harvesting, steep terrain, damage, biomass, sensors, salvage
logging, energy from biomass, pellet, emission, thermochemical conversion, forests,
forestry 4.0, automation, artificial intelligence, sawmilling, productivity, performance,
functional models, sound wood, defective wood, urban trees, and Visual Tree
Assessment.
