With a solid background in organic chemistry, after her period as Assistant Professor (2002-2015), in 2015 Dr. Maria Pérez took up a position as a temporal professor in the "Basic Sciences for Food" section within the Department of “Nutrition, Food Sciences and Gastronomy” of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences of the University of Barcelona (UB). In 2018 she obtained a permanent position as a Serra Hunter Associate Professor and began to reorientate her research to apply her knowledge and expertise in chemistry to the field of food. She is a member of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ), specifically of the specialized groups of Organic Chemistry and Natural Products Chemistry, being a member of the Governing Board of the latter. In 2014 she received the GEPRONAT Award for Young Researchers from the Natural Products Chemistry group of the RSEQ.
