In the present investigation, the corrosion tendency of mild steel under acidic pH was studied by employing unused expired amiodarone (EAD) drug as a potential corrosion inhibitor by adopting the weight loss measurement method. The corrosion inhibition efficiency (IE) of the formed protective film (EAD) on the steel surface was analyzed using potentiodynamic polarization and AC-impedance spectroscopy studies. The surface morphology of the mild steel before and after corrosion (in 1.0 M HCl) was analyzed via scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDAX), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and thermodynamic studies. The weight loss measurement under different concentrations of EAD indicated that an excellent inhibition was displayed at a concentration of 0.001 M, and the IE was found to depend on both the concentration and molecular structure of EAD. A potentiodynamic polarization study revealed that EAD predominantly acted as a cathode inhibitor, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) confirmed the adsorption of EAD on the surface of mild steel, which obeyed Temkin’s adsorption isotherm model. The calculated thermodynamic parameters revealed that adsorption was spontaneous and exothermic.

The corrosion of carbon steel in 1 N HCl was analyzed using an aqueous Bauhinia acuminata Linn (BaL) leaf extract. Weight loss method was used to determine the inhibitor efficaciousness and corrosion rate. When dissolved in water, a linneus plant leaf extract exhibit an inhibitory effect which is proportionate to the amount of inhibitors present. It is possible to speed up the corrosion process by increasing the inhibitors’ concentration. Studies have shown that the BaL leaves extract has a 97.30% inhibitory efficiency. By increasing the concentration of inhibitor solutions, a surface layer forms on carbon steel, which inhibits the activity of the active site. The potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and AC impedance studies (EIS) were employed to examine the mechanical properties of corrosion inhibition. The surface homogeneity and irregularity of carbon steel were examined using AFM and SEM under polished, corroded and inhibitor-treated surfaces. The surface irregularity of the carbon steel were analyzed using atomic force microscopy.

In aqueous solution of 0.5M H2SO4, the Annona Squamosa extract was systematically analyzed to ensure its inhibition mechanism by using potentiodynamics polarization, the weight loss method, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and its inhibitory effect on mild steel corrosion. For mild steel corrosion in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution, its inhibition efficiency increases and decreases with an increase in its concentration and temperature, respectively. Potentiodynamic polarization analyses revealed that the Annona Squamosa behaves as a cathodic inhibitor. In presence of Annona Squamosa extract in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution, an increase in the activation energy of corrosion leads to a decrease in the rate of mild steel corrosion. On mild steel surfaces, the adsorption behaviour of the extract conformed to the Temkin isotherm, Langmuir isotherm and Arrhenius equation. The EIS results were correlated with the polarization findings. According to atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the inhibition of mild steel corrosion proceeds through the adsorption of the extract on the mild steel surface.

Indian and Sri Lankan traditional medicines make the use of Tragia involucrata Linn., a plant belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family. This study aimed to isolate the bioactive flavonoid quercetin from the ethanolic extracts of stem of T. involucrata and evaluate its anticonvulsant effects. The ethanolic extracts from the plant underwent a thorough phytochemical analysis using column chromatography and TLC techniques. The isolated chemical was examined using mass spectrometry, UV, FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, etc. The LD50 of the ethanolic extract was obtained using the acute toxicity assessments. Albino rats were subjected to convulsions induced by MES and lithium pilocarpine to evaluate the anticonvulsant effectiveness. The ethanolic extract of the stem diminishes the maximum electroshock (MES)-induced phases of flexion, hindlimb extension, clonus and stupor during convulsions. Lithium-pilocarpine convulsions were evaluated against a diazepam group and a control group and has shown anticonvulsant activity.

Bisthiourea lithium zinc sulfate (BTLZS) single crystals have remarkable nonlinear optical properties. The crystals were prepared using slow evaporation of solution growth techniques (SEST). The crystal structure and crystalline properties of the synthesized crystals was conducted with powder XRD and SCXRD techniques, respectively. The orthorhombic system of BTLZS crystal has been identified with space group Pca21. The existence of vibrational functional groups in the synthesized crystal was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy. The optical parameters were determined through UV-Vis-NIR transmission spectra. The synthesized BTLZS demonstrated that the emission of green light at 581 nm within its photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The Kurtz and Perry powder method serves as a means to explore the nonlinear optical properties of synthetic crystals. The enhanced second harmonic generation (SHG) has 1.63 times more efficiency than standard postassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystal. The analysis on thermal and laser damage thresholds shows that this crystal demonstrates stability and holds promise for applications in optoelectronic devices.

The corrosion inhibition effect of dipropyl sulphide (DPS) on carbon steel immersed in 0.5 N sulphuric acid has been evaluated at room temperature using mass loss method. The corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency was obtained from weight loss method. The corrosion inhibition efficiency increases with increase in concentration of an inhibitor. The corrosion rate decreases when increase in concentration of inhibitor. This is due to the higher concentration of inhibitor solution, which blocks the active site of a carbon steel and a protective film is formed on the carbon steel surface. Electrochemical studies have been used to confirm the formation of protective film over the carbon steel surface. This is further confirmed by surface analysis technique like FTIR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Energy dispersive analysis of X-ray was used to analyze the elements present over the carbon steel surface. Surface analysis of polished, corroded and inhibitor carbon steel surface has been evaluated by SEM. In order to study adsorption of dipropyl sulphide on carbon steel, in situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements were performed in control, with and without dipropyl sulphide in 0.5 N H2SO4 solution.
