The use of renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic, wind, and fuel cells is becoming increasingly prevalent due to a combination of environmental concerns and technological advancements, as well as decreasing production costs. Power electronics DC-DC converters play a key role in various applications, including hybrid energy systems, hybrid vehicles, aerospace, satellite systems, and portable electronic devices. These converters are used to convert power from renewable sources to meet the demands of the load, improving the dynamic and steady-state performance of green generation systems. This study presents a comparison of the most commonly used non-isolated DC-DC converters for fuel cell applications. The important factors considered in the comparison include voltage gain ratio, voltage switch stress, voltage ripple, efficiency, cost, and ease of implementation. Based on the comparison results, the converters have been grouped according to voltage level applications, with low voltage applications being best served by converters such as DBC, DuBC, TLBC, 2-IBC, 1st M-IBC, PSOL, SEPIC, and 1st M-SEPIC owing to their lower cost, smaller size, and reduced switch stress. Medium voltage applications are best suited to converters such as TBC, 1st M-TLBC, 2nd M-TLBC, 4-IBC, 1st M-IBC, 2nd M-IBC, 1st M-PSOL, 2nd M-PSOL, 1st M-SEPIC, and 2nd M-SEPIC, which offer higher efficiency. Finally, high voltage applications are best served by converters such as TBC, 1st M-TBC, 2nd M-IBC, 3rd M-IBC, 3rd M-PSOL, 4th M-PSOL, 2nd M-SEPIC, 3rd M-SEPIC, and 4th M-SEPIC.

Battery balancing technologies are a crucial mech anism for the safe operation of electrochemical energy storage systems, such as lithium-ion batteries. Moreover, balancing be tween battery cells is essential for battery systems' life. Without any balancing circuitry, individual cell voltages can reach their maximum/minimum battery voltage limit faster than others, posing safety hazards. Furthermore, battery capacity reduction can occur when overcharging/over-discharging individual cells. So far, many balancing methodologies have been proposed and discussed in available literature. This paper presents a review of different state-of-the-art cell balancing methods suitable for low voltage applications. The required control complexity, switch stress, balancing speed, cost and circuit size are considered as key aspects. Typically, cell bypass techniques, such as passive balancing, have the lowest cost and require no complex control strategies. In contrast, cell-to-cell balancing techniques can significantly increase the energy efficiency compared to cell bypass balancers, but these come with higher system costs and control complexity.

While decreasing their cost, lithium-ion batteries began to enter a vast domain for energy storage field, including solar systems and electric vehicles, due to their high energy density compared to other types. Besides, li-ion batteries require a safe and secure ground to reach the best performance and decrease the explosion risk. The safe operation of the battery is based on the main protection features and balancing the cells. This study offers a battery BMS design that protects li-ion batteries from overcharging, over-discharging and overheating. It is also offering passive cell balancing, an uninterrupted power source to load, and monitoring data. The used controller is Arduino mega 2560, which manages all the hardware and software protection features. Software features that include 1) variable charging speed according to the batteries charging status, 2) measuring the batteries state of health and state of charge, 3) controlling the uninterrupted driver, 4) regulating the charge and discharge voltage, and 5) measure and display all readings.

This study explores the potential for PV solar power and battery storage to reduce energy costs in a typical Malian single-family household, highlighting significant cost savings and improved energy reliability. The high solar irradiance throughout the year makes solar power viable for household energy needs. However, most electricity is consumed at night due to air conditioning, with an annual consumption of 12,504 kWh. Cost models for solar power plants and battery energy storage systems, including installation, were developed. Cost parameters were reviewed using the latest literature, distinguishing between current and future cost trends, referred to as Case I and Case II, respectively. Additionally, a feed-in tariff of $0.00 and $0.04 per injected kWh of electricity into the AC mains was considered. The annual return in USD and the return on investment were considered as economic parameters. A small solar power plant with a peak power of up to 3 kW can achieve a high ROI between 70% and 100%. Due to reduced future cost prospects, this ROI could increase to 90% to 130%. However, such a plant can only reach a maximum self-sufficiency of about 40%, as most of the electricity is consumed during nights. A 4 kW power plant can achieve a self-sufficiency of about one-third for an ROI of 57% to 82%, costing approximately $1330 to $1760. When using battery energy storage, a self-sufficiency of 95% has been targeted. With battery storage, the maximum ROI varies from 22.5% to 32.0% with an investment cost of about $9590 to $13,139.

The exploitation of nature to convert energy to electrical power is the most important rule in power generation. Wind energy is one of the most important of those energies that are widely available, and its use does not affect the environment significantly compared to fossil energy. On the other hand, and in recent times, researchers have made great efforts in the field of intelligent control and optimization, which has led to great leaps in the development of these sciences. In this paper, a detailed study is proposed for filling the gaps and conducting an updating state-of-arts of the last pitch control methods in the wind turbine systems. The review is conducted by comparing the key requirements related to control, complexity, stability and speed rangeability. Furthermore, a new classification for the general controller is introduced according to the techniques. Several recommendations for future research related to the control and technical evaluation of wind energy are presented. In sum, the appropriate classification of such important issues and identification of their advantages and drawbacks may greatly contribute to find better solutions.
