The reverse logistics supply chain (RLSC) facilitates the greening of the traditional construction industry supply chain. Despite the growing interest in this approach, limited studies focus on quality assurance (QA) in RLSC, which is crucial to resolve the issue of the low quality in reprocessed products. This study aims to explore the elements which contribute to the QA of RLSC of demolition waste (DW) by conducting a systematic literature review (SLR). A total of 91 articles available in six search engines between 2000 and 2019 were exposed to descriptive and content analysis. The descriptive analysis revealed that most of the articles were experimental studies (35%) and published during the recent period of 2013–2019 (64%). Furthermore, 60% of articles were originated from developed countries while 32% originated from developing countries. The results of the content analysis established that an information-centric integrated system of process, people, policy and technology is needed for QA in RLSC, which is supported by government, regulatory bodies, industry and universities/research institutions. The study addresses the existing gap by proposing a conceptual framework, which could be considered as the foundation in enforcing QA in the RLSC of DW. Finally, the implications for research and practice and some recommendations for further research were presented. The study facilitates in paving the path to sustainable development through building the foundation to enforce QA in RSLC of DW.

Sustainable Procurement (SP) has emerged as a better solution for issues of conventional procurement. The Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is an innovative procurement system that facilitates easy BIM adoption. It is evident that the establishment of innovative procurement systems such as BIM-based IPD is essential to adopt SP successfully. This study aims to investigate the suitability of sustainable BIM-based IPD for the construction industry. ‘Concurrent Triangulation Mixed Method’ was adopted by steering a questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews, where statistical and content analyses were used to analyse collected data respectively. Non-probability sampling was used as a sampling technique for both surveys and sample sizes were 125 for questionnaire survey and 10 for semi-structured interviews. 85% response rate was achieved for the questionnaire survey. Accordingly, 96% of BIM-based IPD principles can be contributed to achieving SP, which recommend the suitability of sustainable BIM-based IPD for the construction industry. However, the limitations of the proposed sustainable BIM-based IPD system can be diminished the expected benefits. Henceforth, appropriate strategies for successful implementation of the proposed system were identified to achieve the expected benefits.

Tender estimates play a vital role in achieving bid successes. A bid price which has an optimum mark-up is governed by many factors. The research aims to identify the significant factors influencing the bid mark-up decision of infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka. Using a literature review, semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire survey, the study identifies nine significant factors influencing the mark-up decision of infrastructure projects. The identified significant factors are ‘estimated direct cost’, ‘competitiveness of other bids’, ‘type of work’, ‘project duration’, ‘the ability to predict pre-tender estimate’, ‘project location’, ‘reliability of the company estimate’, ‘number of bidders’ and ‘need for work’, respectively. The study also reveals potential relationships between the identified significant factors and bid mark-up based on case studies. Amongst, ‘reliability of the company estimate’, ‘number of bidders’ and ‘type of work’ have shown positive relationships with mark-up. The contents should be of interest to bidders and researchers in construction.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a revolutionary stride of technology towards the orthodox construction and procedures in conventional Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. The strength of BIM has been undervalued on the eyes of many professionals as to think of BIM as just another ‘software’ which is in reality, a ‘process’ of attaining an outstanding collaboration among every stakeholder throughout a project's life cycle. Thus, the purpose of this study is to develop a foreseeable information flow model related to the Construction Supply Chain (CSC) of a BIM aided project. This study administered a qualitative approach. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 10 experts, due to the lack of expertize with actual implementation experiences in the subject matter. The data were analysed using manual content analysis. The outcomes revealed that BIM standards have laid down charismatic arrangements on information flows among BIM project stakeholders, which is, in reality, a complex and random setup. The research outcome has successfully answered the complications in complex information setup of a BIM project by laying down guidance for any outsider to the BIM field as to recognize on what would be the contribution of each stakeholder throughout its BIM project's life cycle.

Every year, the construction industry produces a large volume of demolition waste (DW) recovered through reverse logistics supply chains (RLSCs). Information-centric QA plays an important role in the RLSC, providing an excellent solution for inferior-quality reprocessed products. However, information deficiency creates epistemic uncertainties that lead to information-processing needs (IPNs) for QA, for which the internal stakeholders in the RLSC should respond by undertaking appropriate information-processing mechanisms (IPMs). Given this, the current study aims to explore how internal stakeholders process information for QA in RLSC of DW through the organizational information processing theory (OIPT) perspective. The study follows a qualitative approach encompassing 30 semi-structured interviews with internal and external stakeholders in the RLSC of DW. The study found eight uncertainties that stem from the internal organizational environment and two uncertainties caused by the interactions with stakeholders in the supply chain. In addition, 15 IPMs were identified, which the demolishers and waste processors could undertake in response to the epistemic uncertainties. The study developed an information-processing management framework that would serve practitioners and academics to understand how effectively process, people, policy and technology elements contribute to responding to the epistemic uncertainties for successful QA in RLSC of DW.
