C. Calheiros graduated in environmental engineering and holds a Ph.D. in biotechnology. Currently, she conducts scientific research at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) at the University of Porto. She collaborates as an adjunct professor with the University of Saint Joseph–Macau SAR/China and with the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto. Her work focuses on the development of nature-based solutions, such as constructed and floating wetlands and green roofs and walls, for the sustainability of territories and the production of tools for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Additionally, she dedicates her work to phytotechnology applications, including phytoremediation and bioremediation, the treatment and valorization of water and solid waste, circular cities, environmental education, education for sustainability, tourism, rural development, and integrative productive practices.
