This paper investigates the properties and design of energy conversion in an electric vehicle (EV) powertrain. Here, we combined the dynamics of vehicle motion with controlled electric propulsion, which is an EV powertrain. The control of two types of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) was considered. An algorithm was developed for the determination of the static characteristics of two-region motor torque control. A constant torque and a constant power region were used in the powertrain of the EV. The design of the control system for the PMSM was considered in the reference frame. A precise mechanical model of the EV and the determination of road loads is shown. The main results of this study were the selection of the PI controller parameters (in analytical form), which was carried out for the simplified motor model and then extended for the model, and energy consumption during the WLTP standard driving cycle. The presented simulation results of the proposed control system with synchronous motors in the EV (Fisker Karma as an example) confirmed the approach taken for the selection of the controller. The presentation of the EV’s acceleration for an optimized powertrain, and hence its performance, is a novelty not found in other articles.
The paper presents the results of FEM 2D computational studies of a three-phase Direct Current Excited Flux Switching Machine (DCEFSM) electric motor with 15 rotor teeth and 36 stator teeth. The aim of the research was to minimize the cogging torque of the machine by changing the geometry of the rotor teeth and the size of the air gap between the stator and the rotor, with the operating torques unchanged. Computational studies were carried out on the influence of the width of the rotor teeth, the radius of the rounding of their corners, and the size of the air gap on the cogging torque and machine operating torques. The results of the calculations made it possible to select the dimensions of the rotor and the air gap in such a way that the maximum cogging torque was reduced more than six-fold, with the machine operating torques being unchanged. The calculations also showed that it is not possible to increase the value of the operational torques by further changes in the geometry of the rotor teeth and the size of the air gap of the machine.
The paper presents the results of laboratory tests and FEM 2D calculations of the DCEFSM (Direct Current Excited Flux Switching Machine) electric motor prototype, made based on the stator ferromagnetic sheets of the induction motor. Static measurements of torques, currents, power, efficiency, electromotive forces, and voltages of the motor under various operating conditions were performed, as well as the recordings of its currents and back-EMFs waveforms. FEM calculations of measured values were also performed. The obtained results allow us to conclude that the motor has the operating properties of an under-excited synchronous cylindrical motor and can be vector controlled like the PMSM motor. The results of measurements and calculations indicate the need to redesign the magnetic circuit of the stator.

The work compares the value of the produced torque (average value) of a 2.2kW squirrel cage induction motor with new construction machines, i.e. a motor with flux switching and hybrid excitation or DC excited, a motor with flux modulation and hybrid excitation or DC excitation. The external dimensions of the tested machines corresponded to the dimensions of the induction motor.

W pracy przedstawiono wpływ niesymetrii wewnętrznych silników indukcyjnych w postaci zwarć, skrótów, czyli zmostkowanych części uzwojenia, różnic w impedancjach stojana i uszkodzeń wirnika na sieć zasilającą w postaci składowych: przeciwnej i zerowej prądów, ilustrując tezę przykładami z badań i pomiarów. Każdy defekt silnika pozostawia ślad w sieci. Zawartość tych składowych w relacji do składowej zgodnej, podobnie jak THD, określa jakość energii elektrycznej w danej sieci.
