Dimitrios Komilis is a professor and head of the Laboratory of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management at the Dept. of Environmental Engineering (Democritus University of Thrace). He is a graduate of the University of the Aegean (B.Sc.) and of the UW-Madison (M.Sc., Ph.D.). His research interests include all aspects of solid waste management, such as valorization and recovery of solid wastes, composting, landfilling, and life cycle analysis. He has co-authored around one hundred research papers, four book chapters, and more that sixty papers on conference proceedings related mostly to solid waste management and valorization. He has more than 3000 citations of his works and an h index of 32. He has been a scholar or grantee of the Fulbright foundation, N.A.T.O., Lilian Voudouris foundation, DAAD, Marie Curie, Generalitat de Catalunya, and recently of Erasmus+. He is a co-Editor in Chief of Waste Management (Elsevier) and an editorial board member of Sustainability and Environments (MDPI).
