Dr. Marco Neri is the Director of Research, Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, Osservatorio Etneo – INGV-OE, Catania - Italy; and Deputy-Commissioner and Head of the Geology Area in support of the Extraordinary Commissioner, Italian Government-Prime Minister's Office, Acireale, Italy. He has been involved in all volcanic emergencies on Etna, Stromboli, Vulcano, and Panarea, and in southern Italy from 1990 to the present, in the capacity of volcanologist and structural geologist. He has also conducted research on a number of other volcanoes in Italy, including Somma-Vesuvius, Ustica, and Pantelleria, and submerged portions of volcanoes in the Tyrrhenian Sea, Ionian Sea, and Sicily Channel. Additionally, he has studied volcanoes in other countries, such as Kanlaon in the Philippines, Merapi in Indonesia, the Canary Islands, the Azores (El Hierro), Chile, Mexico (Michoácan-Guanajuato volcanic field), Argentina (Vicuña Pampa), Guatemala, El Salvador, the USA (Summer Coon; San Francisco and Cima volcanic fields), Java (Lamongan volcanic field), and Japan (Miyakejima). Since 1 January 2020, he has been working at the Struttura Commissariale Ricostruzione Area Etnea (SCRAE, Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Government) for the reconstruction of the areas of the municipalities of the Metropolitan City of Catania affected by the earthquake of 26 December 2018, with the duties of Extraordinary Deputy Commissioner and Head of the Geology Area.
