The research subject is the deposit-refund system of beverage packaging (PET, glass and aluminium) in Hungary, which is under development. For the success of the planned system, it is important to consider the population’s opinion. Therefore, data from a primary questionnaire survey were used for the analyses. This questionnaire was conducted in 2020 and resulted in an evaluable sample of 20,430 people. The study aims to answer the following research questions (Q). Q1. Does the reform of the beverage packaging deposit-refund system in Hungary have a raison d’être? Q2. What are the demographic characteristics (gender, type of residence, qualification) of those who would redeem beverage packaging in their households if the state paid for it? Q3. Do the demographic characteristics and/or the environmental attitudes of individuals significantly influence their perceptions of the planned new system, and how strong is the relationship between them? As for the method for answering the research questions, descriptive statistics and relationship analyses (Cramer’s V and Kendall’s tau) were applied to the closed answers. The results show that the analysis of the primary research provides well-determined directions for legislators and decision makers who develop the detailed operating rules of the new system.

A kutatás tárgya a Balaton kiemelt turisztikai fejlesztési térség településeihez kötődő lakosság véleményének vizsgálata a települési tényezőkkel kapcsolatban. A vizsgált adatok 2018 és 2019-ben végzett primer kérdőíves felmérésből származnak, melynek során 27 települési tényezőt vizsgáltak meg a szerzők, az értékelhető minta elemszáma 1201 fő. A tanulmány az ISA (Importance – Satisfaction Analysis) fontosság-elégedettség módszert alkalmazza a Balaton térség települési tényezőinek értékelése során, ugyanakkor elemzik a mátrixtechnikák módszertani dilemmáit is. A tanulmányban alkalmazott módszertan mind a gyakorlati, mind a tudományos szakemberek számára használható keretrendszert alkalmaz. Az elemzések eredményei útmutatást nyújthatnak a döntéshozóknak a beavatkozás fő területeinek meghatározásában.

This study uses an innovative tourism product development approach, based on co-creation or customer involvement, related to Lake Balaton, a mass tourism-based destination in Hungary, from the point of view of the market segment of active cycling tourists. The investigation of opportunities for the development of cycling tourism first of all relies on the new approach of attraction and product development around the destination, in which it is important to take into consideration the consumer preferences of the most important related group of tourists—active cycling tourists. The sustainable approach of tourism product development also provides an opportunity to decrease the spatial and temporal concentration of tourism, which is largely concentrated on the summertime season. The aim of this study is to explore aspects of the customers’ demand for tourism development in terms of cycling tourism with the help of primary data collection, in order to provide adequate directions for sustainable tourism development in the destination. Revealing the demand side of active cycling tourism related to Lake Balaton, the authors used both qualitative (focus group discussions and structured interviews) and quantitative questionnaire survey (computer-assisted data collection) research methods. The latter online surveys were carried out in November and December, 2019, and resulted with an appraisable sample of 809 questionnaires. As for the method, descriptive statistics and relationship analyses were applied. More than five thousand (5050) possible relationships were examined between the closed answers of the questionnaire by Kendall's rank correlation coefficient (τ) and Cramer’s V, depending on whether they could be measured on a nominal or ordinal scale. The results show that the content analysis of the primary research provides well determined directions for the sustainable tourism development of cycling tourism at Lake Balaton, so customer involvement seems to be a win-win situation both for the customers (tourists) and the decision makers.

The aim of our study is to highlight what kind of factors influence the attachement of inhabitants to the towns in the test area ‘Murafölde’, a Hungarian micro‐region. We assume, that the level of attachement is a function of the inhabitants’ satisfaction with employment opportunities. In 2017, a total of 1,900 questionnaires have been collected in the test area. This was the first survey in the region aiming at identifying the inhabitants’ motivation for mobility. Results indicate that satisfaction with employment opportunities significantly influence the attachment to the towns, while there are other factors which are even stronger.

Between summer 2018 and spring 2019, a study was conducted by the researchers of the University of Pannonia to examine Szentes, a small town in the Great Hungarian Plain. The study focused on the inhabitants’ attachment to the town, quality of life, internal image, and the locals’ satisfaction level with the settlement’s factors. The survey of Szentes fits with the aspirations of the 21st-century challenges of (small) rural towns (Veszprém, Kőszeg, Gyöngyös, Zirc). These challenges include retaining the young Y and Z generations and active population; liveable settlements; and sustainable rural development. During the research some local key determining figures were cross-examined in structured interviews. In addition, data were gathered applying a focus group method along with a survey reflecting 527 local respondents’ opinions. The results provide a brief summary not only of the areas in which Szentes can improve the inhabitants’ quality of life and the conditions of its settlements, but also of how it can be a more attractive place to live overall.

Many studies deal with the determinants of countries' culture or efficiency of microfinance institutions (MFIs). This chapter aims to fill the gap in the literature by analyzing the connection between national cultural features and indicators of countries' MFIs. The summary of analyses made regarding MFIs is followed by the national cultural dimensions, and how knowledge strategy could serve poverty reduction. Forty-five countries represent the subject of the research. Their statistics are available for both MFIs and national culture. Rank correlation and investigation of TOP5 countries show that the MFIs are successful in countries characterized by high levels of power distance, collectivistic, long-term-oriented and restraint culture. Based on these results, the chapter lists countries where MFIs could be successfully introduced based on their national cultural features and recommends certain knowledge strategies for effective operation. Finally, research directions as a continuation of this study are also presented.

Many studies deal with the determinants of countries' culture or efficiency of microfinance institutions (MFIs). The purpose of this chapter is to fill the gap in the literature, namely, to analyze the connection between national cultural features and indicators of countries' microfinance institutions. The authors summarize the mission and operation of microfinance institutions, the six dimensions of national culture and three knowledge strategies. 35 countries representing the subject of the research, the statistics of which are available for both MFIs' side and national cultural side. The rank correlation and the investigation of TOP 5 countries show that the MFIs are successful in countries characterized by high level of power distance, collectivistic culture, high level of uncertainty avoidance and restraint culture. The chapter also lists few countries where MFIs could be successfully introduced based on their national cultural features and recommends certain knowledge strategies for effective operation.
