For machine learning algorithms, fine-tuning hyperparameters is a computational challenge due to the large size of the problem space. An efficient strategy for adjusting hyperparameters can be established with the use of the greedy search and Swarm intelligence algorithms. The Random Search and Grid Search optimization techniques show promise and efficiency for this task. The small population of solutions used at the outset, and the costly goal functions used by these searches, can lead to slow convergence or execution time in some cases. In this research, we propose using the machine learning model known as Support Vector Machine and optimizing it using four distinct algorithms—the Ant Bee Colony Algorithm, the Genetic Algorithm, the Whale Optimization, and the Particle Swarm Optimization—to evaluate the computational cost of SVM after hyper-tuning. Computational complexity comparisons of these optimization algorithms were performed to determine the most effective strategies for hyperparameter tuning. It was found that the Genetic Algorithm had a lower temporal complexity than other algorithms.

Electric Vehicles’ Controller Area Network (CAN) bus serves as a legacy protocol for in-vehicle network communication. Simplicity, robustness, and suitability for real-time systems are the salient features of CAN bus. Unfortunately, the CAN bus protocol is vulnerable to various cyberattacks due to the lack of a message authentication mechanism in the protocol itself, paving the way for attackers to penetrate the network. This paper proposes a new effective anomaly detection model based on a modified one-class support vector machine in the CAN traffic. The proposed model makes use of an improved algorithm, known as the modified bat algorithm, to find the most accurate structure in the offline training. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, CAN traffic is logged from an unmodified licensed electric vehicle in normal operation to generate a dataset for each message ID and a corresponding occurrence frequency without any attacks. In addition, to measure the performance and superiority of the proposed method compared to the other two famous CAN bus anomaly detection algorithms such as Isolation Forest and classical one-class support vector machine, we provided Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) for each method to quantify the correctly classified windows in the test sets containing attacks. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method achieved the highest rate of True Positive Rate (TPR) and lowest False Positive Rate (FPR) for anomaly detection compared to the other two algorithms. Moreover, in order to show that the proposed method can be applied to other datasets, we used two recent popular public datasets in the scope of CAN bus traffic anomaly detection. Benchmarking with more CAN bus traffic datasets proves the independency of the proposed method from the meaning of each message ID and data field that make the model adaptable with different CAN datasets.

In this study, a standalone hybrid wind turbine (WT)/photovoltaic (PV)/biomass/pump-hydro-storage energy system was designed and optimized based on technical, economic, and environmental parameters to provide the load demand with an objective function of minimum cost of energy (COE). The constraints of the proposed approach are the loss of power supply probability, and the excess energy fraction. The proposed approach allows the combination of different sources of energy to provide the best configuration of the hybrid system. Therefore, the proposed system was optimized and compared with a WT/PV/biomass/battery storage-based hybrid energy system. This study proposes three different optimization algorithms for sizing and minimizing the COE, including the whale optimization algorithm (WOA), firefly algorithm (FF) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the optimization procedure was executed using MATLAB software. The outcomes of these algorithms are contrasted to select the most effective, and the one providing the minimum COE is chosen based on statistical analysis. The results indicate that the proposed hybrid WT/PV/biomass/pump-hydro storage energy system is environmentally and economically practical. Meanwhile, the outcomes demonstrated the technical feasibility of a pump-hydro energy storage system in expanding the penetration of renewable energy sources compared to other existing systems. The COE of the pumped-hydro storage hybrid system was found to be lower (0.215 $/kWh) than that with batteries storage hybrid system (0.254 $/kWh) which was determined using WOA at the same load demand.

The process of controlling the flow of products and services from a company by encompassing each stage involved in transforming raw materials and parts into finished items, also delivering them to the final consumer is known as Supply Chain Management (SCM). The development of numerous smart city applications including smart grids, smart homes, smart supply chains, and smart healthcare has drawn attention to the Internet of Things (IoT). Nowadays, researchers are considering the smart healthcare system’s role as a Public Emergency Service (PES) to treat patients promptly. A distributed smart fire brigade system receives little attention like PES to save lives and property from catastrophic fire damage. The conventional PES methods are created using a centralized method that needs a lot of processing power and doesn’t offer timely services. The traditional systems developed for managing the supply chain have drawbacks like single-point failure issues, data integrity, transparency, and lack of trust. To alleviate the existing issues, in this paper, a Blockchain and IoT Enable Secure and Transparent Supply Chain Management framework is utilized for PES in the smart city environment. Further, two edge computing servers, like a service controller and an IoT controller are adapted. The local storage is handled by the service and IoT controller. Thus, it enhances the data processing speed of PES requests and PES fulfillment. The service controller utilizes the Optimal Queue Model to manage the PES requests based on the minimum service queue length. The efficiency of the network is improved by fine-tuning the parameters from the Queue model with the aid of a Revised Fitness-based Political Optimizer (RF-PO). The multi-objective constraints like queue length, utilization, actual arrival time, expected arrival time, and end-to-end delay are utilized for the efficient supply chain system. These stimulated results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the supply chain framework.

The study investigates the relationship between green production, green technology, waste reduction, energy use, and sustainability. A Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach was used for analysis. The data was collected from a sample of companies in the textile industry. The results suggest that green production and technology positively and significantly affect waste reduction and energy use, which mediates the positive relationship between these two factors and sustainability. This study concludes that green production and technology are critical drivers of sustainability and emphasizes the need to prioritize waste reduction and energy use in sustainable manufacturing practices. The study has practical and managerial implications in all production or manufacturing industries and provides a guideline for managers and policymakers to ensure sustainability.
