In recent decades, maritime transport demand has increased along with world population and global trades. This is associated with higher pollution levels, including the emissions of GHG and other polluting gases. Ports are important elements within maritime transport and contribute themselves to pollutant emissions. This paper aims to offer a comprehensive yet technical review of the latest related technologies, explaining and covering aspects that link ports with emissions, i.e., analyzing, monitoring, assessing, and mitigating emissions in ports. This has been achieved through a robust scientific analysis of very recent and significant research studies, to offer an up-to-date and reliable overview. Results show the correlation between emissions and port infrastructures, and demonstrate how proper interventions can help with reducing pollutant emissions and financial costs as well, in ports and for maritime transportation in general. Besides, this review also wishes to propose new ideas for future research: new future experimental studies might spin-off from it, and perhaps port Authorities might be inspired to experiment and implement dedicated technologies to improve their impact on environment and sustainability.

Nowadays, transport systems efficiency plays a key role for communities’ liveability and economy, being in addition an important factor in the economic integration of countries. The purpose of the article is to develop multi-stage models of tourist activities for optimizing the development of operating companies. For the implementation of models, the authors evolved the relevant system of organizational-functional support for the development of railway tourism. The research will enable us to take into consideration risks when planning tourist routes by railway, determine the order of construction or start of routes, and assess their profitability. This will provide to earn the expected incomes of all interested parties in tourist activities for the specified period. The authors created economic-mathematical models of the discrete optimal planning of the railway tourism operations. This takes into account conditions of risks and cooperation, and allows to determine which sets of effective routes are the most profitable ones. The results of the realization of the developed models include the task of the succession of the tourist route introduction according to the present and future infrastructure, availability of the rolling stock, etc. In this, consideration is given to obtaining maximum profit from tourism businesses for every participant during an established period.

Due to urbanization, large portions of vegetated territory have been replaced by waterproof surfaces. The consequences are greater outflows, lower infiltration, and lower evapotranspiration. Pavement systems made with permeable surfaces allow the infiltration of water, ensuring reduction of runoff volume. In this paper, the methods of analysis of the hydrological and environmental performance of the pavement systems are reviewed in the context of urban drainage and regarding their durability. The purpose is to present an overview of the studies published during the last decade in the field. The Pubmed and Web Science Core Collection electronic databases were used to conduct the scientific literature survey. This generated 1238 papers, of which only 17 met the criteria and were included and discussed in this review. The evidence drawn from the knowledge on which the document is based provides useful critical interpretations of existing studies to progress the current understanding on hydrological performance and environment impacts in terms of conventional pollutant removal efficiency and the current permeable pavement systems.

Purpose. The main purpose of the work is to improve the safety of railway transport operation. The implementation of this purpose is provided by assessing and preventing the negative influence of petroleum products on the structural elements of the railway infrastructure. Methodology. The main criterion for assessing the residual life of technical elements of equipment is their strength characteristics. One of the key factors affecting the suitability of technical devices during operation is corrosion damage to the metal. Therefore, the influence of various combinations of the mineralization degree and concentration of petroleum products on the corrosion rate of metals most often used in the design of cooling systems for diesel engines and other transport objects was studied. Thus, for carrying out static and dynamic laboratory tests, model working solutions with different salinity (demineralization model) and different concentrations of dissolved petroleum products (model of standard solutions with organic impurities) were selected. Dynamic and static studies of corrosion damage were carried out by the gravimetric method and the method of polarization resistance using standard samples and solutions. Findings. Based on the results of experimental studies of the authors and analytical data processing, generalizing model dependences of the corrosion rate on the mineralization degree of the working solution of the fractional composition of petroleum products were obtained. A study was carried out and the influence of the water demineralization degree on the corrosion rate of materials of diesel cooling systems was established. Originality. Based on a wide range of author's experimental data, the presence of generalizing dependences of the corrosion rate on temperature, the mineralization degree of the working solution and the fraction of the petroleum products composition has been shown and proven. The obtained dependences form the basis of the developed mathematical model of corrosion, which is a set of relationships linking the characteristics of the corrosion process with various factors influencing its development. Practical value. The obtained experimental and analytical data can be widely used for non-destructive testing procedures, detailed prediction of the state of structural elements and the selection of effective inhibitors to reduce the corrosive aggressiveness of the environment and protect structures.

The statistical and monitoring data confirm the significant impact of the operational mode on the most important noise and vibration parameters, which is relevant for ensuring the efficiency and quality of the operational process with regard to ergonomic and environmental requirements. The article analyzes the acoustic parameters of rolling stock of the railway, emphasizes the peculiarities of noise emission from various elements of rolling stock and a track. Existing approaches towards solving the problem in the organization of railway noise control are outlined. On the basis of existing modern methods for measurement and analysis of acoustic parameters, the authors propose conceptual approaches toward monitoring the acoustic parameters, predicting noise characteristics and constructing the noise maps of railways. The algorithm of the developed acoustic model for the operational monitoring of noise load and the possibility to compile a case of noise maps for Ukrzaliznytsia is presented. The proposed algorithm allows at given basic design parameters and speed of rolling stock, known sound-absorbing and dissipative characteristics of all elements to carry out a rational selection of noise-protective measures in accordance with the sanitary noise regulations for a specific receptive facility.

A high speed is one of the most important todays requirements for the rail transport. However, increasing the maximum speed brings also the problem of vehicle stability. The parameters of the vehicle suspension should be tuned in order to achieve vehicle stability in the entire speed range. The article presents the results of theoretical study of the impact of the suspension parameters of the mainline electric locomotive type DS3 on the magnitude of its critical speed. The stability and critical speed are assessed by eigenvalues calculation of the linear model of the vehicle. The study compares 9 variants of vehicle parameters. The sensitivity of the critical speed on the individual parameters is shown and discussed. At the same time, it is shown that by tuning vehicle parameters in order to achieve high critical speed, some other vehicle characteristics may deteriorate. As the result, the optimal range of the stiffness values of the connection of axle-boxes and bogie-frame is recommended.

Purpose. The main purpose of this work is to research deformability parameters of the railway track under various operating conditions as the initial data for the formation of forced oscillations of rolling stock and the trackform use intensity. Methodology. For the research, an original model of the trackform, described with using the basic concepts of the theory of elasticity and the propagation of elastic waves was developed. Findings. It has been established that the ratio between the intensity of work of elements and the trackform, as criteria for deformability, can be used as the estimated parameters of the functionally safe operation of the track. It can be the basis for the classification of critical track states under which it had to perform work to restore its working capacity in order to ensure the required level of efficiency of use construction during the service life. Originality. Trackform and parameters of the elements of the track superstructure and substructure can be described using the railway tracks deformability behaviour. In the future this conclusion will help to increase the efficiency of the dynamic properties of rolling stock when designing and maintain in readiness the infrastructure while in operation. Practical value. Changes in the regulatory framework of rail transport in recent years provide for the observance of its functional safety, therefore, the question of the need to assess the impact of rolling stock on the way to be regarded as a dynamic process with consideration to the deformability resistance track. This research provides a basis for record of the stiffness of deformation that allows creating the regulatory framework for safety and functional safety of the railway track in Ukraine.

Purpose. The main purpose of the study is to compare and confirm the results of theoretical studies of locomotive motion along the straight and curved track sections in the set range of operating speeds, which is essential for determining their dynamic qualities. The conducted research complex is one of the prerequisites for improving the reliability of the rolling stock mechanics, in particular the bogie parameters. Methodology. The research was carried out by numerical integration of the dynamic loading of a railway vehicle using one of the modern software complexes. In this study we used the mathematical model of locomotive spatial oscillations obtained using Lagrangian equations of the second kind. Findings. Authors carried out theoretical research and performed the analysis of the vehicle behavior during the motion along the track section, which in the vertical plane has no geometric defects, and taking into account the inequalities on the example of the main locomotive. The researches were carried out both analytically and with the help of the modern software complex. Comparison of the graphs shows that the results obtained by different methods coincide with sufficient accuracy. Originality. Based on the results of many years of work, the authors present the General Classification of Locomotive Mechanics, which may be useful to researchers, who are involved in the assessment of the dynamic qualities of new and upgraded types of rolling stock. Practical value. A new licensed modern software complex has been applied, which makes it possible to use it in the design, modeling of units of rolling stock and their elements; during theoretical and experimental studies, comparison of their results. The results of theoretical research can be taken into account for the preliminary research during creating the reliable constructions of a new vehicle, further improvement of the mechanics, modernization of the existing units of rolling stock during field tests.

The paper is devoted to the study of lateral oscillation and the assessment of the motion stability of a four axle railway vehicle equipped with wheelsets with independently rotating wheels. First, a linear four degrees of freedom mathematical model of the unconstrained wheelset in a straight track has been built. The wheelset model was consequently utilized in a model of the whole vehicle representing typical railway passenger car. The model has 25 degrees of freedom and it is described by a system of 50 first order homogeneous differential equations. Linear algebra methods were used to assess the stability. The influence of a running velocity, the torsional stiffness of wheelsets and the viscosity of coupling element between wheels was studied. Results of this study shows that wheelsets with independently rotating wheels and viscous coupling element enable stable behaviour of a vehicle at speeds exceeding 500 km/h. Prospectively, this type of wheelset is applicable to high-speed railway vehicles, because it offers either further increase of running speeds or simplification of running gear while preserving high speed stability.

Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the results of theoretical and experimental studies of the strength properties of rolling stock; search for design tools, modeling, selection, justification of the service life extension of freight cars and their elements. Methodology. The article is based on the finite element method (FEM). It makes possible to completely automate the calculation of mechanical systems, although, as a rule, it requires a much larger number of computational operations than the classical methods of mechanics. The modern level of development of computer technology opens wide opportunities for the introduction of FEM into engineering practice. FEM is implemented in many well-known and widely distributed software products that provide strength analysis of models of machines, mechanisms, structures, including the rolling stock of railways. Findings. The article presents an analysis of the theoretical and experimental studies of the strength properties of rolling stock elements on the example of the spine beam of freight cars; calculations were performed using a modern application program package. The presented example of use of the offered approach has shown its operation capacity and efficiency, as well as correctness of the research direction. The offered approach can be used when solving similar optimization tasks in research and developmental practice of transport mechanical engineering. Originality. The authors proposed me-thod of determining the reliability indicators and solving scientific and applied problem of calculating the elements of freight cars, taking into account the operation features and the loading mode impact. This allows determining their durability at the design stage. There were developed and investigated the models of the spine beam of a freight car, on the basis of which the dependences characterizing the stress-strain state of its elements were obtained. Scientifically substantiated results of the evaluation of strength properties of spine beams of freight cars were obtained depending on their design. The aspects related to the current state and development prospects of railway transport, the use of the software complex in the design and calculation of rolling stock in the railway industry are considered. Practical value. The theoretical and experimental studies of the strength properties of rolling stock elements were considered on the example of a spine beam in a freight car. Calculations were performed using a modern software package. The application of these results will contribute to increase the safety of freight cars and improve the technical and economic performance of railway transport.

Purpose. Publication of the results of international scientific and technical cooperation of the Dnipropetrovsk National University of Railway Transport named after Academician V. Lazaryan (DNURT, Ukraine) and the Czech Technical University (CTU) in the field of engineering training of students on the basis of modern methods of development of scientific and creative abilities of students. Methodology. The development of scientific thought and the improvement of the professional level of students of engineering specialties of railway technical institutes may be carried out by different methods both during training and during extracurricular time. One of the methods for improving the scientific level of future engineers is the public lectures of renowned scholars and researchers from leading European higher education institutions, enabling students to have access to world-class advanced scientific idea. Findings. The authors have analyzed the activity of DNURT and CTU on scientific and educational preparation of students. It is emphasized that cooperation promotes strengthening of contacts between universities, improves the quality of students' training, is one of the factors of the professional development of future specialists, raising the scientific level of engineering training of railway transport professionals. It is proved that DNURT and CTU duly fulfill the higher education tasks of training of professional personnel who are able to work effectively in the global market, aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of education. Originality. This paper presents the analysis of results concerning the efficiency of application of modern methods for engineering training of students of technical higher educational institutions. It gives extended view of the main directions of international education activities. Practical value. It is confirmed that popularization of modern methods of propagation of engineering thought among student youth has acquired a new meaning and contributes to enhancing the scientific level of engineering training of railway transport professionals.

Purpose. To determine the dynamic qualities of the main locomotives that characterize safety traffic along straight and curved track sections in the entire range of operational speeds, it is necessary to perform a whole range of studies. One of the necessary conditions for a qualitative improvement of the traction rolling stock of railways is the determination of the parameters of its running gears. Among the issues related to this problem, the important task is to determine the dynamic qualities of locomotives at the design stage, taking into account the selected technical solutions in the design of running gears. At the same time, special attention is paid to the connections of the body with bogie, in particular, using the inclined rods. Methodology. Mathematical modeling is carried out by the method of numerical integration of the equations of the mathematical model of locomotive spatial oscillations to determine the dynamic loading of the mainline locomotive using the software package "Dynamics of Rail Vihicles" ("DYNRAIL"). Findings. The research results show that in order to create a simple and reliable design of running gears, which will reduce maintenance and repair costs, will have low initial cost and operating costs for the whole life cycle, high traction force as close as possible to the ultimate force in traction, will make it possible to operate in the multiple traction mode, the designers and scientists should implement scientific and technical solutions. Originality. In accordance with researches authors formed general classification formation of body/bogie connections and the general classification of structures of inclined rod of locomotives. Practical value. Generalization of the results of theoretical, scientific-methodical, experimental studies aimed at further improving the running gears of long-distance locomotives of perspective structures is urgent in improving the rolling stock constructions. The research carried out by the authors concerning improvement of the structural features of the running gear elements of some types for modern mainline locomotives are of practical value and can be used in the development of traction rolling stock.

Purpose.The success of the traffic on the railways of Ukraine depends on the number and the operational fleet of electric locomotives. Today, the locomotive depot exploit physically and morally outdated locomotives that have low reliability. Modernization of electric locomotives is not economically justified. The aim of this study is to improve the safety of the traction rolling stock by the frequency analysis of dynamical systems, which allows conducting the calculation of the natural (of resonant) frequencies of the design and related forms of vibrations.Methodology.The study was conducted by methods of analytical mechanics and mathematical modeling of operating loads of freight locomotive when driving at different speeds on the straight and curved track sections. The theoretical value of the work is the technique of choice of constructive schemes and rational parameters of perspective electric locomotive taking into account the electric inertia ratios and stiffness coefficients of Lagrange second-order equations.Findings. The problems of theoretical research and the development of a mathematical model of the spatial electric vibrations are solved. The theoretical studies of the effect of inertia ratios and stiffness coefficients on the dynamic values and the parameter values of electric locomotive undercarriages are presented.Originality.The set of developed regulations and obtained results is a practical solution to selecting rational parameters of bogies of the freight mainline locomotive for railways of Ukraine. A concept of choice of constructive scheme and rational parameters of perspective locomotive is formulated. It is developed the method of calculation of spatial electric locomotive oscillations to determine its dynamic performance. The software complex for processing the data of experimental studies of dynamic parameters of electric locomotive and comparing the results of the theoretical calculations with the data of full-scale tests is implemented.Practicalvalue.The theoretical study allows objectively assessing the impact of the partial frequency of electric locomotive elements on both the rational parameters of its underframe, and the performance and physiological condition of the locomotive crew. Thus, the practical value of the whole complex of theoretical research was to develop an algorithm and program, choosing rational parameters and design scheme of electric locomotive running gear. Using a software package for the study of spatial fluctuations of electric locomotive made it possible to evaluate the dynamic performance of the electric locomotive underframe with sufficient accuracy for practical problems.

Purpose.To conduct the research at all stages of design, development, operation, residual operation life determination, namely, preliminary study, action principle choice, design of draft and technical projects, their optimization, preparation of design documentation and control information for automated production, comprehensive engineering analysis, it is required to use the latest computer technologies. Their use can not only present data and information in some way, but also gives the opportunity to effectively and directly interact with the information object that is created or demonstrated. Methodology.To perform engineering calculations associated with the analysis of the strength of machines, mechanisms, constructions one uses both analytical and numerical methods in practice.The most common method for analysing the stress-strain state of object models, obtaining their dynamic and stability characteristics at constant and variable modes of external load is the finite element method, which is implemented in many famous and widespread software products, providing strength calculation of models of machines, mechanisms and structures. Findings.The use of modern software for designing machine parts and various types of their joints and for strength analysis of structures is justified. Colour charts for distribution of stresses, displacement, internal efforts, safety factor and others allow accurate and quick identification of the most dangerous places in the structure. The program also provides an opportunity to «look» inside the elements and see the resulting distribution of internal force factors. Originality.The paper considered the aspects, which are unexplored at present, associated with the current state and prospects of development of industrial production, the use of software package for design and calculations in the mechanical industry. The result of the work is the justification of software application for solving problems that are aimed at using research findings for various practical tasks in specific fields of mechanical engineering. Practical value.Compared with other software systems, popularity of the considered one is explained by easy mastering of the system, quick implementation both in training and in production process The organizational structure, «friendly» graphical interface and accessible language make learning and use of the program very convenient. These and other factors actually reduce the time for project implementation, emphasize the relevance and the practical importance of the software system, which is appreciated by its users.

During manufacturing of diesel locomotives, their basic parameters must be adapted to the requirements of that specific environment. One of the central issues is the choice of bogies. The article present the examples of selecting a bogie by using multi-criteria optimization methods. The methods are adapted for Siemens bogies models SF1, SF2, SF3 and SF6. The solutions obtained by different methods were compared, and shortcomings of certain multi-criteria optimization methods for selection of a bogie model according to its parameters were established.

Purpose. With the advent of new designs of freright cars the task of designing the more modern bogies, assessment of their dynamic properties depending on the type and structure of pecularities, accounting the axle loadings, providing the dynamic and running characteristics, meeting the conditions of impact on the track, stability, and frame forces intensity etc. becomes especially important. In order to launch the new production into manufacture and to assess the dynamic properties using different designs of bogies the running testes were conducted. They allowed one to compare the dynamic performance of the new bogie with the existing models. Methodology. The study was conducted using the method of numerical integration and mathematical modeling of dynamic loading of freight cars using the software package «Dynamics of Rail Vehicles» («DYNRAIL»). Findings. The results of studies of dynamic characteristics of open cars with new and worn wheels of bogie models 18-9771, 18-9770 and 18-578 in graphical and tabular form are presented. All figures are within the normative values and do not exceed the maximum admissible ones. Originality. When designing the bogie for loading 23.5 t/axle almost all available technical solutions to improve the characteristics of the freight car bogies (elastic bearers, cassette bearing in axle boxes, axle boxe adapter of original design, bilinear central spring suspension, etc.) were used. Practical value. As a result of the engineering works on projecting and manufacturing of the improved designs of freight car bogies a new design was received. It is highly competitive with the dynamic qualities of the best ones. Made choice of rational values of elastic-dissipative parameters of the bogie allows one to create standard series of running gears for freight cars for promising operating conditions.The results are of practical importance. They have found reflection in the number of author’spublications in special and semi-populareditions.

Purpose. The main requirements for the design of a new generation of cars, according to the Program of rolling stock renovation, are the requirements reducing the operating costs and increasing the cost-effectiveness of their use, taking into account the achievements of scientific and technical thought. Due to the urgency of this subject the paper is devoted to the study of the friction coefficient influence in the bearing connection «center plate – center bowl – bearers»of freight cars on their main dynamic parameters – coefficients of horizontal and vertical dynamics, body acceleration, frame strength, derailment stability factor. Methodology. The study was conducted by numerical integration and mathematical modeling of the freight car dynamic loading using the software package «Dynamics of Rail Vehicles» («DYNRAIL»). Findings. Investigations have shown that the safety movement parameters are influenced by both the friction parameters in bearing connection «center plate – center bowl – bearers» of freight cars in empty and loaded state with bogies TSNII-X3 (model 18-100). Effect have other components of freight car dynamics, namely: radii of curved track sections, height of outer rail, etc. Originality. The author investigated the friction influence on the car dynamic loading using new approaches to solving the problem of predicting the rolling stock dynamics. Prediction was carried out on the basis of significantly updated theoretical material that covers all history of the friction theory and includes the results of recent experimental studies because of the speed on the straights and curves of small-and medium-range sections of the road.Practical value. The obtained results have practical orientation. During the research and after modeling with the improved method of accounting of friction processes dependencies of main dynamic parameters of a four-freight gondola on the value of the friction coefficient in the "body – bogie" with regard to speed were obtained. The results of scientific studies have found their scientific use in a number of author publications in the special scientific and popular publications.

Purpose. To determine the dynamic qualities of the mainline freight locomotives characterizing the safe motion in tangent and curved track sections at all operational speeds, one needs a whole set of studies, which includes a selection of the design scheme, development of the corresponding mathematical model of the locomotive spatial fluctuations, construction of the computer calculation program, conducting of the theoretical and then experimental studies of the new designs. In this case, one should compare the results with existing designs. One of the necessary conditions for the qualitative improvement of the traction rolling stock is to define the parameters of its running gears. Among the issues related to this problem, an important place is occupied by the task of determining the locomotive dynamic properties on the stage of projection, taking into account the selected technical solutions in the running gear design. Methodology. The mathematical modeling studies are carried out by the numerical integration method of the dynamic loading for the mainline locomotive using the software package «Dynamics of Rail Vehicles » («DYNRAIL»). Findings. As a result of research for the improvement of locomotive running gear design it can be seen that the creation of the modern locomotive requires from engineers and scientists the realization of scientific and technical solutions. The solutions enhancing design speed with simultaneous improvement of the traction, braking and dynamic qualities to provide a simple and reliable design, especially the running gear, reducing the costs for maintenance and repair, low initial cost and operating costs for the whole service life, high traction force when starting, which is as close as possible to the ultimate force of adhesion, the ability to work in multiple traction mode and sufficient design speed. Practical Value. The generalization of theoretical, scientific and methodological, experimental studies aimed at further improvement of the running parts for the mainline locomotives of promising designs is urgent for improving the rolling stock design. The observed improvements of the design features of the running gear elements for some types of the modern mainline locomotives, providing the necessary dynamic parameters of the vehicle movement are relevant; they have the practical value and can be used for further developments.
