Jorge Carvalho Silva graduated with a degree in Physics from the FCT/UC in 1989 and completed a Ph.D. in Surface Physics at the FCT/UNL and the Université Paris-Sud in 2003. He has been an Assistant Professor at the Physics Department of FCT/UNL since 2003. He is the creator and coordinator of the Tissue Engineering Group, formerly at Cefitec. He is the principal investigator of the project: “Skin2: a biosynthetic second skin, engineered to treat severe burns” (PTDC/SAU-BMA/109886/2009 financed by the FCT/MEC). He is the co-promotor of the start-ups NovaTissue and NanoSutures.
