In this paper, a novel classification technique for large data set of mammograms using a deep learning method is proposed. The proposed model targets a three-class classification study (normal, malignant, and benign cases). In our model we have presented two methods, namely, convolutional neural network-discrete wavelet (CNN-DW) and convolutional neural network-curvelet transform (CNN-CT). An augmented data set is generated by using mammogram patches. To enhance the contrast of mammogram images, the data set is filtered by contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE). In the CNN-DW method, enhanced mammogram images are decomposed as its four subbands by means of two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (2D-DWT), while in the second method discrete curvelet transform (DCT) is used. In both methods, dense scale invariant feature (DSIFT) for all subbands is extracted. Input data matrix containing these subband features of all the mammogram patches is created that is processed as input to convolutional neural network (CNN). Softmax layer and support vector machine (SVM) layer are used to train CNN for classification. Proposed methods have been compared with existing methods in terms of accuracy rate, error rate, and various validation assessment measures. CNN-DW and CNN-CT have achieved accuracy rate of 81.83% and 83.74%, respectively. Simulation results clearly validate the significance and impact of our proposed model as compared to other well-known existing techniques.

Over the last two decades, radiologists have been using multi-view images to detect tumors. Computer Tomography (CT) imaging is considered as one of the reliable imaging techniques. Many medical-image-processing techniques have been developed to diagnoses lung cancer at early or later stages through CT images; however, it is still a big challenge to improve the accuracy and sensitivity of the algorithms. In this paper, we propose an algorithm based on image fusion for lung segmentation to optimize lung cancer diagnosis. The image fusion technique was developed through Laplacian Pyramid (LP) decomposition along with Adaptive Sparse Representation (ASR). The suggested fusion technique fragments medical images into different sizes using the LP. After that, the LP is used to fuse the four decomposed layers. For the evaluation purposes of the proposed technique, the Lungs Image Database Consortium and Image Database Resource Initiative (LIDC-IDRI) was used. The results showed that the Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) index of our proposed method was 0.9929, which is better than recently published results. Furthermore, the values of other evaluation parameters such as the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 89%, 98% and 99%, respectively, which are also competitive with the recently published results.

To promote online businesses and sales, e-commerce industry focuses to fulfill users’ demands by giving them top set of recommendations which are ranked through different ranking measures. Deep learning based auto-encoder models have further improved the performance of recommender systems. A state-of-the-art collaborative denoising auto-encoder (CDAE) models user-item interactions as a corrupted version of users rating inputs. However, this architecture still lacks users’ ratings-trend information which is an important parameter to recommend top-N items to users. In this paper, building upon CDAE characteristics, we propose a novel users rating-trend based collaborative denoising auto-encoder (UT-CDAE) which determines user-item correlations by evaluating rating-trend (High or Low) of a user towards a set of items. This inclusion of a user’s rating-trend provides additional regularization flexibility which helps to predict improved top-N recommendations. The correctness of the suggested method is verified through different ranking evaluation metrics i.e., (mean reciprocal rank, mean average precision and normalized discounted gain), for various input corruption values, learning rates and regularization parameters. Experiments on standard ML-100K and ML-1M datasets show that suggested model has improved performance over state-of-the-art denoising auto-encoder models.

Accurate weed segmentation in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery remains a significant challenge in precision agriculture due to environmental variability, weak contextual representation, and inaccurate boundary detection. To address these limitations, we propose the Multi-Scale and Edge-Aware Network (MSEA-Net), a lightweight and efficient deep learning framework designed to enhance segmentation accuracy while maintaining computational efficiency. Specifically, we introduce the Multi-Scale Spatial-Channel Attention (MSCA) module to recalibrate spatial and channel dependencies, improving local–global feature fusion while reducing redundant computations. Additionally, the Edge-Enhanced Bottleneck Attention (EEBA) module integrates Sobel-based edge detection to refine boundary delineation, ensuring sharper object separation in dense vegetation environments. Extensive evaluations on publicly available datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of MSEA-Net, achieving a mean Intersection over Union (IoU) of 87.42% on the Motion-Blurred UAV Images of Sorghum Fields dataset and 71.35% on the CoFly-WeedDB dataset, outperforming benchmark models. MSEA-Net also maintains a compact architecture with only 6.74 M parameters and a model size of 25.74 MB, making it suitable for UAV-based real-time weed segmentation. These results highlight the potential of MSEA-Net for improving automated weed detection in precision agriculture while ensuring computational efficiency for edge deployment.
