The nature of sports is characterized by a strong competitive component that generates inequalities among athletes at different levels, specifically in relation to gender, technology, and doping. These inequalities can be represented according to the Red Queen effect perspective, which has been previously hypothesized in other competitive environments (evolutionary biology and economics, for instance). The Red Queen effect considers each competitive environment to require a constant effort to maintain a position of competitive advantage in order reach the best result possible. Therefore, the aim of the current paper is to provide an innovative perspective for the understanding of competition in sports, identifying factors (i.e., physical appearance for gender equality, socioeconomic status of a sport team for technology, and antidoping rules for doping) influencing athletes’ possibilities to win a competition. Concerning gender differences, the disparity between genders reflects a lower coverage in sports news, and media are more likely to focus on female athletes’ physical appearance than their performance in sports. Therefore, women struggle more with increasing their visibility and in affirming their status as an athlete. On the other hand, the introduction of science and technological innovations in sports has generated economic interests in sport competitions, which reached superior performance levels compared to the past. Teams that cannot afford financial burdens of technological innovation risk being left out from sport competitions. Finally, doping creates a Red Queen environment since antidoping rules catch a small portion of athletes using performance enhancement drugs.

Although basketball is a highly followed sport in Turkey, there is a noticeable lack of research on the Turkish Basketball Super League, regarding the changes and game trends that have occurred over the years. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the changes in game trends and the game-related statistics in the Turkish Basketball Super League over the past ten seasons. Per-game, game-related statistics used in this study has obtained from online basketball.realgm.com website. Game-related statistics analysed for bsl teams’ performance across multiple seasons (2013-2023) include points per game, field goals made, field goals attempted, field goal percentage, 3-point field goals made, 3-point field goals attempted, 3-point field goal percentage, free throws attempted, rebounds per game, assists per game, steals per game, blocks per game, and turnovers. Means and descriptive were generated to analyse average statistics from each season. All statistical analyses were completed with SPSS (Version 26.0; IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA). Analysing BSL data from 2013 to 2023, teams have shown improved scoring efficiency, as points per game and three-point attempts have increased. The league has seen consistent scoring improvements, enhanced three-point shooting, and an increased focus on teamwork and rebounding. Teams have also emphasized teamwork, with consistent averages for assists and rebounds per game. Defensive efforts have remained stable, with steals and blocks showing minor fluctuations. Turnovers have decreased over time, indicating better ball security. As a result, it has been observed that the offensive performance of the teams in BSL has increased and team play continues steadily as the seasons progress. This research can provide valuable information in terms of analysing the league and understanding game strategies.

With the increase in environmental problems, green consumption has become an effective environmental problem-solving strategy for consumers. This study focuses on tangible sport-related, environmentally sustainable products such as eco‑friendly apparel, footwear and equipment used by athletes. The study examines the intention to purchase green sports products in a developing country, Türkiye, by incorporating product-related factors, individual factors and cultural factors. The study extends the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and collects data from 438 athletes from five major provinces of Türkiye using a structured questionnaire. The results showed that all TPB antecedents impact purchase intentions of green sports products. Furthermore, individual factors (environmental awareness and environmental concern) have an important role in the purchase intentions of green sports products. However, product-related factors and cultural factors do not affect consumers’ purchase intentions. The TPB framework is more predictive when environmental awareness and concerns are included as additional constructs. This research provides useful information about the influence of consumers on green sport product and service purchase intentions and contributes to existing theory and practice.

The concept of Connectedness to Nature, which has been frequently mentioned in recent years and is the most important milestone for sustainable understanding, has become the focus of various disciplines and fields of study. In this context, our study aims to contribute to the literature that will form a basis for the relationship between nature and sports by measuring the dependence of individuals who do the physical activity outdoors. The sample group of the study consists of 241 participants who come to do sports on certain days of the week in Ankara. "Connectedness to Nature Scale" adapted to Turkish by Bektaş, Kural, and Orçan, (2017) was used to determine the level of commitment to nature of the participants. The Cronbach's Alpha coefficient for the whole of the scale was found to be 88, and t-test and variance analysis methods were used to determine the dependency of the participants to nature according to their demographic information. The participants were examined, it was found that 34.9% were women and 65.1% were men. When their dependence on nature according to gender is examined, no statistically significant difference was found (t = -, 446 p> .05). When the frequency of physical activity of the participants is evaluated, doing physical activity continuously creates a positive effect on the connectedness to nature. As a result, as the amount of physical activities increases in open areas, the connectedness to nature will increase.
