As an important power facility for transmission corridors, automatic three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the pylon plays an important role in the development of smart grid. In this study, a novel three-dimensional reconstruction method using airborne LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) point cloud is developed and tested. First, a principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm is performed for pylon redirection based on the structural feature of the upper part of a pylon. Then, based on the structural similarity of a pylon, a pylon is divided into three parts that are inverted triangular pyramid lower structures, quadrangular frustum pyramid middle structures, and complex upper or lateral structures. The reconstruction of the inverted triangular pyramid structures and quadrangular frustum pyramid structures is based on prior knowledge and a data-driven strategy, where the 2D alpha shape algorithm is used to obtain contour points and 2D linear fitting is carried out based on the random sample consensus (RANSAC) method. Complex structures’ reconstruction is based on the priori abstract template structure and a data-driven strategy, where the abstract template structure is used to determine the topological relationship among corner points and the image processing method is used to extract corner points of the abstract template structure. The main advantages in the proposed method include: (1) Improving the accuracy of the pylon decomposition method through introducing a new feature to identify segmentation positions; (2) performing the internal structure of quadrangular frustum pyramids reconstruction; (3) establishing the abstract template structure and using image processing methods to improve computational efficiency of pylon reconstruction. Eight types of pylons are tested in this study, and the average error of pylon reconstruction is 0.32 m and the average of computational time is 0.8 s. These results provide evidence that the pylon reconstruction method developed in this study has high accuracy, efficiency, and applicability.

Although vegetation index time series from optical images are widely used for crop mapping, it remains difficult to obtain sufficient time-series data because of satellite revisit time and weather in some areas. To address this situation, this paper considered Wen County, Henan Province, Central China as the research area and fused multi-source features such as backscatter coefficient, vegetation index, and time series based on Sentinel-1 and -2 data to identify crops. Through comparative experiments, this paper studied the feasibility of identifying crops with multi-temporal data and fused data. The results showed that the accuracy of multi-temporal Sentinel-2 data increased by 9.2% compared with single-temporal Sentinel-2 data, and the accuracy of multi-temporal fusion data improved by 17.1% and 2.9%, respectively, compared with multi-temporal Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data. Multi-temporal data well-characterizes the phenological stages of crop growth, thereby improving the classification accuracy. The fusion of Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar data and Sentinel-2 optical data provide sufficient time-series data for crop identification. This research can provide a reference for crop recognition in precision agriculture.

Overlapped areas of crop and coal production are responsible for national food security and mineral resource supply. However, long-term coal mining and urban and rural construction have continuously impacted the structure and functions of the original agricultural landscape ecosystem in the area and brought serious ecological security problems. On the basis of the results of remote sensing image classification of the Zhaogu mining area, this study explores the spatio-temporal variation characteristics of the landscape pattern and the evolution of ecological security and predicts the landscape ecological security status in 2029. Research results show that the evolution of the landscape pattern in the study area manifests obvious stage characteristics: from 2004 to 2014, the landscape pattern developed in the direction of fragmentation, irregularity, heterogeneity, and low connectivity; after 2014, the landscape pattern showed continuity, regularization, and high connectivity trends. By comparing the landscape ecological security of the study area from 2004 to 2019, a temporal change characteristic of first deteriorating and then gradually improving can be observed. By analyzing the changes in the distribution of the security status in the study area on a spatial scale, it can be found that the proportion of unsafe areas is significantly reduced in 2019 due to the influence of land remediation and reclamation. By constructing a CA-Markov prediction model with both spatial and quantitative advantages, the prediction results show that the degree of landscape fragmentation in the study area will be reduced, and the connectivity will be enhanced between 2019 and 2029. The shape of landscape patches tends to be regular, and the landscape heterogeneity will be enhanced. Overall, the landscape ecological security situation will continue to improve. The results could provide reference for ecological protection and related land reclamation planning of the mine area.

High-resolution crop type mapping is of importance for site-specific agricultural management and food security in smallholder farming regions, but is challenging due to limited data availability and the need for image-based algorithms. In this paper, we developed an efficient object- and pixel-based mapping algorithm to generate a 10 m resolution crop type map over large spatial domains by integrating time series optical images (Sentinel-2) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images (Sentinel-1) using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. The results showed that the proposed method was reliable for crop type mapping in the study area with an overall accuracy (OA) of 93.22% and a kappa coefficient (KC) of 0.89. Through experiments, we also found that the monthly median values of the vertical transmit/vertical receive (VV) and vertical transmit/horizontal receive (VH) bands were insensitive to crop type mapping itself, but adding this information to supplement the optical images improved the classification accuracy, with an OA increase of 0.09–2.98%. Adding the slope of vegetation index change (VIslope) at the critical period to crop type classification was obviously better than that of relative change ratio of vegetation index (VIratio), both of which could make an OA improvement of 2.58%. These findings not only highlighted the potential of the VIslope and VIratio indices during the critical period for crop type mapping in small plots, but suggested that SAR images could be included to supplement optical images for crop type classification.

Coal mining in the Loess Plateau can very easily generate ground cracks, and these cracks can immediately result in ventilation trouble under the mine shaft, runoff disturbance, and vegetation destruction. Advanced UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) high-resolution mapping and DL (Deep Learning) are introduced as the key methods to quickly delineate coal mining ground surface cracks for disaster prevention. Firstly, the dataset named the Ground Cracks of Coal Mining Area Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (GCCMA-UAV) is built, with a ground resolution of 3 cm, which is suitable to make a 1:500 thematic map of the ground crack. This GCCMA-UAV dataset includes 6280 images of ground cracks, and the size of the imagery is 256 × 256 pixels. Secondly, the DRA-UNet model is built effectively for coal mining ground surface crack delineation. This DRA-UNet model is an improved UNet DL model, which mainly includes the DAM (Dual Dttention Dechanism) module, the RN (residual network) module, and the ASPP (Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling) module. The DRA-UNet model shows the highest recall rate of 77.29% when the DRA-UNet was compared with other similar DL models, such as DeepLabV3+, SegNet, PSPNet, and so on. DRA-UNet also has other relatively reliable indicators; the precision rate is 84.92% and the F1 score is 78.87%. Finally, DRA-UNet is applied to delineate cracks on a DOM (Digital Orthophoto Map) of 3 km2 in the mining workface area, with a ground resolution of 3 cm. There were 4903 cracks that were delineated from the DOM in the Huojitu Coal Mine Shaft. This DRA-UNet model effectively improves the efficiency of crack delineation.
