Background: Previous quantitative studies have shown many of the perceived benefits of yoga practice on the mind and body. Although there are many quantitative studies in the international literature on yoga, the number of qualitative studies showing the experience of yoga practice is insufficient. An accurate demonstration of yoga participents experiences, opinions, and judgments on this subject requires a qualitative, rather than a quantitative approach. Purpose: This study was to explore the benefit perceived by adults who have practiced yoga for a long time. Design and method: This qualitative study is based on a hermeneutic–phenomenological approach. The research sample consisted of 18 adults who volunteered to participate in the research and regularly joined yoga practice. The study data were collected through individual and focus group interviews with the participants who practise yoga and analyzed by content analysis method. Results: We created five themes. Themes coded by researchers: meaning of the concept of yoga (theme 1), physical, mental, and social state before starting yoga (theme 2), reasons for practising yoga (theme 3), the participants' experiences related to their physical and mental health and social relationships (theme 4), and difficulties of doing yoga (theme 5). In addition, individuals in the study reported their perceptions of the concept of "yoga" through the creation of metaphors that completed the following sentence “yoga is like ……”. These metaphors were used to give insight into the participants deep feelings about yoga. Conclusions: Both in their individual and focus group interviews, almost all of the participants described that doing yoga has positive benefits on the mind and body. The positive experiences of the participants in the study included decrease in pain and flexibility, increase in sleep quality, development of positive personality traits, increase in self-esteem, and coping with anxiety and stress more effectively. Because the study was qualitative and long-term, it was able to evaluate the beliefs, attitudes and behaviors of individuals in a realistic, systematic, and detailed manner.

COVID-19 has caused a major crisis all over the world. To manage this crisis, a fixed shift system was applied to nursing home staff in Turkey to protect nursing home residents from the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff were not allowed to leave the institution during fixed shifts. It is thought that this practice for the COVID-19 outbreak, while protecting nursing home residents on the one hand, increased the workload and related stress of nursing home staff on the other hand. To the best of our knowledge, there is no study examining the workload and stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic for nursing home staff in Turkey. The aim of this study was to examine the level of workload and work stress experienced by staff working in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey. Methods: A cross-sectional research design was used in the study. The sample of the study consisted of nursing home personnel working in nursing homes in the provinces of Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya between October 2021 and January 2022. A personal information form and a workload and stress scale were used for collecting the data. Cluster analysis was performed with SPSS software. Results: In total, 154 nursing home personnel participated in the study. A statistically significant difference was found between the mean age of the two clusters. The first cluster was described as “old” and the second as “young”. Statistically significant and high values were found in the quantitative workload, qualitative workload, job organization, social work area and fatigue factors in the nursing home staff in the older participant cluster. Conclusion: The results of this study provide new information about the concepts of workload and work stress experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey, which will serve as a guide for the management of future pandemics. Therefore, this study will contribute to the strategies to be followed in future pandemics in Turkey.

The contributions of mythical older adult figures to today’s vocabulary and literature were studied by assessing the perception of aging in the axis of older adult characters in Greek and Roman mythology. The narratives about older individuals and old age were studied using the “discourse analysis” approach, and the profound effects of ideas and perceptions in mythology today were explored. Aside from those shown as physically collapsed, unhappy, and dirty, as in the Geras example, Greek and Roman mythology is rich in images of aged people; there are also individuals such as Mentor, Silenus, and Chiron who are regarded to be knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced wise men. Furthermore, characters like Tithonus, Proteus, and Mentor, whose traits inspired and contributed terminologically to numerous fields such as medicine, nursing, psychology, and educational sciences, are crucial in illustrating mythology’s contributions to the modern age. Older adult characters in Greek and Roman mythology, such as Tiresias and Sbyl, rose to prominence due to their prophetic powers, demonstrating the link between old age and prophetic ability. In Greek and Roman mythology, older adult characters exhibit a wide range of complex qualities. For this reason, the older adults figures and discourse in Greek and Roman mythology contributed significantly to the studies of aging and scientific literature and revealed the origins of the aging perception in several ways. Examining this mythical discourse reveals its contributions to scientific language and the traces left in social memory.

Background: While successful aging focuses on physical health and disease prevention, active aging offers a broader framework encompassing social participation and security. Health literacy is considered a vital tool in achieving these outcomes, yet its specific impact on the synergy between both aging paradigms requires further exploration. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the relationship between health literacy, successful ageing, and active ageing among older adults and to identify the factors associated with active ageing levels. Method: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted between October 2024 and May 2025 at the Metropolitan Municipality’s Active Aging Service Center in Antalya, Türkiye. The study included 306 participants aged 65 and over. Data were collected using a Demographic Information Form, the Active Ageing Scale, the Successful Ageing Scale, and the Turkish Health Literacy Scale. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, Chi-square, Pearson correlation, and Multiple Linear Regression. Results: The study involved 306 older adults with an average age of 67.79 ± 3.56 years (79.4% of participants were women, and 70.6% were university graduates). Whilst the majority of participants reported having a chronic illness (66.0%) and taking medication regularly (64.7%), 58.5% engaged in regular physical exercise and 80.7% engaged in regular mental activities. The mean total score for the Active Ageing Scale was 190.10 ± 39.37, for the Successful Ageing Scale it was 57.74 ± 7.61, and for the Health Literacy Index it was 32.97 ± 9.53. Bivariate analyses revealed that higher levels of education, income, regular physical exercise and mental activity were significantly associated with better health literacy and ageing outcomes ( p < 0.05). Furthermore, positive correlations were found between active ageing, successful ageing and health literacy ( p < 0.01). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the model statistically significantly predicted active aging and explained 56.4% of the total variance (R² = 0.564, p < 0.05). While age, mental activity, and health literacy emerged as significant predictors, education and regular exercise were found to be insignificant. Conclusion: Health literacy is a key factor of active and successful ageing. To promote active ageing, older adults care centres should prioritise health literacy.
