Educational data generated through various platforms such as e-learning, e-admission systems, and automated result management systems can be effectively processed through educational data mining techniques in order to gather highly useful insights into students’ performance. The prediction of student performance from historical academic data is a highly desirable application of educational data mining. In this regard, there is an urgent need to develop an automated technique for student performance prediction. Existing studies on student performance prediction primarily focus on utilizing the conventional feature representation schemes, where extracted features are fed to a classifier. In recent years, deep learning has enabled researchers to automatically extract high-level features from raw data. Such advanced feature representation schemes enable superior performance in challenging tasks. In this work, we examine the deep neural network model, namely, the attention-based Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) network to efficiently predict student performance (grades) from historical data. In this article, we have used the most advanced BiLSTM combined with an attention mechanism model by analyzing existing research problems, which are based on advanced feature classification and prediction. This work is really vital for academicians, universities, and government departments to early predict the performance. The superior sequence learning capabilities of BiLSTM combined with attention mechanism yield superior performance compared to the existing state-of-the-art. The proposed method has achieved a prediction accuracy of 90.16%.

In software engineering community, defect prediction is one the active domain. For the software’s success, it is essential to reduce the software engineering and data-mining gap. Software defects prediction forecasts the source code errors before the testing phase. Methods for predicting software defects, such as clustering, statistical methods, mixed algorithms, metrics based on neural networks, black box testing, white box testing and machine learning are frequently used to explore the effect area in software. The main contribution of this research is the use of feature selection for the first time to increase the accuracy of machine learning classifiers in defects pre-diction. The objective of this study is to improve the defects prediction accuracy in five data sets of NASA namely; CM1, JM1, KC2, KC1, and PC1. These NASA data sets are open to public. In this research, the feature selection technique is use with machine-learning techniques; Random Forest, Logistic Regression, Multilayer Perceptron, Bayesian Net, Rule ZeroR, J48, Lazy IBK, Support Vector Machine, Neural Networks, and Decision Stump to achieve high defect prediction accuracy as compared to without feature selection (WOFS). The research workbench, a machine-learning tool called WEKA (Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis), is used to refine da-ta, preprocess data, and apply the mentioned classifiers. To assess statistical analyses, a mini tab statistical tool is used. The results of this study reveals that accuracy of defects prediction with feature selection (WFS) is improve in contrast with the accuracy of WOFS.

Accurate classification of brain tumors is vital for detecting brain cancer in the Medical Internet of Things. Detecting brain cancer at its early stages is a tremendous medical problem, and many researchers have proposed various diagnostic systems; however, these systems still do not effectively detect brain cancer. To address this issue, we proposed an automatic diagnosing framework that will assist medical experts in diagnosing brain cancer and ensuring proper treatment. In developing the proposed integrated framework, we first integrated a Convolutional Neural Networks model to extract deep features from Magnetic resonance imaging. The extracted features are forwarded to a Long Short Term Memory model, which performs the final classification. Augmentation techniques were applied to increase the data size, thereby boosting the performance of our model. We used the hold-out Cross-validation technique for training and validating our method. In addition, we used various metrics to evaluate the proposed model. The results obtained from the experiments show that our model achieved higher performance than previous models. The proposed model is strongly recommended to be used to diagnose brain cancer in Medical Internet of Things healthcare systems due to its higher predictive outcomes.

This paper presents a UAV-swarm-communication model using a machine-learning approach for search-and-rescue applications. Firstly, regarding the communication of UAVs, the receive signal strength (RSS) and power loss have been modeled using random forest regression, and the mathematical representation of the channel matrix has also been discussed. The second part consisted of swarm control modeling of UAVs; however, a dataset for five types of triangular swarm formations was generated, and K-means clustering was applied to predict the cluster. In order to obtain the correct swarm formation, the dendrogram of all types was investigated. Finally, the heat map and contour were plotted for all kinds of swarm clusters. Furthermore, it was observed that the RSS of proposed swarms had good agreement with swarm distances.
