Objectives: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the cost, production time, clinical performance, and patient satisfaction of 3D printing workflows in prosthodontics compared to conventional and subtractive methods. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search of electronic databases was performed to identify studies published between 2015 and 2025 that directly compared digital additive workflows with analogue or subtractive workflows. Studies were eligible if they included prosthodontic treatments such as dentures, crowns, or implant-supported prostheses and reported at least one relevant outcome. The primary outcomes were cost, time efficiency, clinical accuracy (e.g., marginal adaptation, fit), and patient satisfaction. Included studies were methodologically evaluated using MINORS scale and the risk of bias was assessed using ROBINS-I and RoB 2 tools. Results: Seven studies met the inclusion criteria. Overall, 3D printing workflows demonstrated reduced production time and cost in comparison to conventional or subtractive methods. Clinical outcomes were generally comparable or superior, particularly regarding adaptation and fit. Patient satisfaction was favourable in most studies, although reporting varied. Long-term follow-up was limited, which constrains the interpretation of sustained clinical performance. Conclusions: These findings suggest that 3D printing can serve as an efficient and cost-effective alternative in prosthodontic fabrication, with clinical results comparable to those already established. Further research is needed to assess long-term clinical performance and cost-effectiveness in various clinical scenarios.

Background: Due to the increasing global prevalence of Alzheimer’s dementia (AD), neuromodulation techniques such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and photobiomodulation (PBM) are considered potential complementary therapies. Objective: We assessed the efficacy and safety of tDCS and PBM and their potential to enhance cognitive functions in individuals with AD. Methods: This review primarily examined studies designed to evaluate the efficacy, followed by an assessment of the safety of tDCS and PBM for people with AD. The databases searched were PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science Core Collection, resulting in 17 published randomized and controlled trials. References were screened over 5 years (2020–2024). The research design used PRISMA guidelines. Results: Fourteen studies were considered for tDCS, and the current literature supports efficacy and safety at an amperage of 2 mA, with electrodes placed on the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). Three studies were included for PBM. The heterogeneity of these study measures made them unsuitable for combined efficacy analysis, and they did not provide a safety evaluation. Conclusions: Despite differences in efficacy assessments, tDCS and PBM improved cognitive abilities. There is an urgent need to standardize metrics for evaluating efficacy and safety, particularly for PBM. Future research is encouraged.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of moisture control strategies (including wet-bonding techniques, universal adhesives, and etching type) on dentin bonding performance in restorative dentistry. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, following PRISMA guidelines. Only in vitro and ex vivo studies comparing wet- and dry-bonding protocols, using human dentin substrates, and reporting microtensile bond strength (μTBS) were included. The data were synthesized using a random-effects meta-analysis and the methodological quality was assessed using the MINORS tool. Certainty of evidence was evaluated using the GRADE framework. Results: Nine studies met the inclusion criteria, eight of which were included in this meta-analysis. The moisture control strategies significantly influenced the bonding outcomes, with ethanol and acetone wet bonding yielding higher μTBS and enhanced hybrid layer morphology. The universal adhesives performed effectively under both moist and dry conditions, although their performance varied by the adhesive composition and solvent system. The meta-analysis revealed a statistically significant advantage for hydrated dentin (SMD = +1.20; 95% CI: 0.52 to 1.86; p < 0.001), with the moist and ethanol-treated substrates outperforming the dry and over-wet surfaces. The long-term durability was better preserved with ethanol and acetone pretreatments and the adjunctive use of chlorhexidine. Conclusions: Moisture conditions influence dentin bond strength, but modern universal adhesives show consistent bonding performance across different moisture conditions. Solvent-wet-bonding protocols, particularly with ethanol or acetone, enhance the immediate and long-term performance. While the current evidence is limited by the in vitro designs and heterogeneity, the findings demonstrate protocol flexibility and highlight strategies to optimize adhesion in clinical practice. Future clinical trials are necessary to validate these approaches under real-world conditions.

Hyperdopaminergia has been identified at impulsive or psychotic patients, the polymorphism of COMT or other enzymes that metabolize dopamine could be involved. The deficiencies of the serotoninergic system in suicidal behaviour has been mentioned by many studies that indicate the reduction of 5-HT, 5-HIAA in CSF or 5-HTT polymorphism. Young patients with psychotic or depression symptoms manifest, frequently, aggressive and self-harm behaviour. Besides the association between the young age and the aggressivity of the patients with serious mental disorders, our study shows gender differences and this matter is sustained by hormonal factors. The study was conducted at the Gheorghe Preda Psychiatric Hospital in Sibiu. The study comprises 52 patients aged between 18 and 35 who were diagnosed with the diagnosis of Schizophrenia, Bipolar Affective Disorder, Depressive Episode and Major depressive disorder according to the DSM-5 criteria. Evaluation of the severity of psychiatric and depressive symptomathology were assessed with Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale and Beck Depression Inventory; aggression and self-aggression in the patients with Schizophrenia, respectively with Bipolar disorder, depressive episode and Major depression disorder were assessed with Buss Perry Aggression Questionnaire and Suicide Intent Scale. Regarding the severity of aggression in the young patients from our study (Buss Perry scale score), male gender is higher than female gender: higher percentages in males (35% and 10%) than in females (16 and 0%). Determining aggression in schizophrenia is possible due to COMT polymorphism that lead to impulsivity or psychotic symptoms. The study show a significant positive correlation between the severity of symptoms of schizophrenia and aggression. From the analysis of the severity of depression in young patients (SIS score) it is noted that its severity is higher in the female gender. Women had higher scores of moderate depression (58%) and severe (26%) than men (37 and 25%, respectively). This relationships could be possible due to the polymorphism of the gene encoding the 5-HTT serotonin transporter related with serotonin deficiency. The study do not show a significant positive correlation between the severity of the depressive symptomatology and the degree of the suicide intent.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate cell proliferation capacity and micronuclei incidence in the presence of nickel–chromium (Ni-Cr)-based dental alloys, with and without the addition of beryllium (Be). The use of these alloys in dental prosthetics is widespread; however, the potential risks associated with their genotoxicity and cytotoxicity require further investigation. The study seeks to provide insight into the safety of these materials and their long-term impact on the health of both patients and dental professionals. Methods: The study was conducted through a comparative analysis of genotoxicity and cytotoxicity using human lymphocyte cultures exposed to two types of Ni-Cr-based dental alloys, one containing beryllium and the other without beryllium. The evaluations were performed according to the OECD Test No. 487 guideline, employing the micronucleus assay and cell proliferation assay. Lymphocytes were exposed to three different alloy concentrations (5 mg/mL, 10 mg/mL, and 20 mg/mL), and the effects on genetic material were analyzed microscopically. Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, and variance) were calculated, and one-way ANOVA was used to assess statistical significance between groups, with a significance threshold of p < 0.05. Results: A significant increase in cytotoxicity and micronuclei incidence was observed in the samples containing beryllium compared to those without beryllium. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences (p < 0.001) between the test and control groups and between different concentrations. Additionally, a direct proportional relationship was noted between alloy concentration and the intensity of genotoxic effects. Microscopic analysis confirmed genetic material damage, indicating a potentially increased risk associated with the use of this type of dental material. Conclusions: The data obtained suggest that Ni-Cr-based dental alloys containing beryllium may present a significant risk of genotoxicity and cytotoxicity. Therefore, the selection of materials used in dental prosthetics should be based on solid scientific evidence, and the use of these alloys should be approached with caution. The study highlights the need for further research to better understand the long-term impact of these materials on human health.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic brought a burden and represented a challenge for the Romanian medical system. This study explored the consequences that COVID epidemiological measures had on the quality of the mental health care provided to hospitalized patients in a regional psychiatric hospital in Romania. Materials and methods: Both patient-level and hospital-level indicators were considered for this comparative retrospective study. On the one hand, we extracted patient-level indicators, such as sociodemographics, diagnosis, admission, and discharge dates for 7026 hospitalized patients (3701 women, average age = 55.14) from hospital records. On the other hand, for the hospital-level indicators, we included indicators referring to the aggregated concept of mental health services, such as case mix index, length of stay, bed occupancy rate and patients’ degree of satisfaction. Data extracted covered a period of two years (1 March 2019–28 February 2021) before and during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: We found that, compared to the pre-pandemic period, the pandemic period was marked by a drastic decrease in hospitalized patient admissions, coupled with an increase in emergency-based admissions. Other management indicators, such as the case mix index, the number of cases contracted/performed, and the degree of patient satisfaction, decreased. In contrast, the average length of stay and bed occupancy rate increased. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the first year, raised multiple difficult issues for the management of psychiatric hospitals. It imposed an application of strict measures designed to face these new and unprecedented challenges. Our findings offer a detailed snapshot of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of its impact on mental health services and suggest some future directions. Implications for hospital management are discussed. Keywords: hospital management; COVID-19 pandemic; hospitalized patients; psychiatric hospital; mental health services.
