This article presents a theoretical analysis of the use of spiral-elliptical ducts in the atomizer of a modern fuel injector. The parameters of the injected fuel stream can be divided into quantitative and qualitative. The quantitative parameter is the injection dose amount, and the qualitative parameter is characterized by the stream of injected fuel (width, atomization, opening angle, and range). The purpose of atomizer modification is to cause additional flow turbulence, which may affect the stream parameters and improve the combustion process of the combustible mixture in a diesel engine. The spiral-elliptical ducts discussed here could be used in engines powered by vegetable fuels. The stream of such fuels has worse quality parameters than conventional fuels, due to their higher viscosity and density. The proposal to use spiral-elliptical ducts is an innovative idea for diesel engines.

The aim of this study was to analyse the possibilities of improving the ecological parameters of compression - ignition CI engines. During the analysis of exhaust gas, attention was mainly paid to the emission of nitrogen oxides and carbon black soot. A method was proposed to reduce the above chemical elements in CI - engine exhaust fumes by using the annular channels on the non-working part of the fuel injector needle and applying a platinum catalyst on them. The task of these annular channels is to mix and agitate the fuel before injection to the combustion chamber and to enlarge the contact surface area of catalyst. The task of catalytic coating is to initiate the reaction of dehydrogenation of paraffinic hydrocarbons to olefinic ones with a free hydrogen molecule. Hydrogen, owing to its properties, can shorten the period of delay of spontaneous ignition of combustible mixture in the engine combustion chamber, which affects the entire combustion process and improves the ecological parameters of a CI engine.
The article concerns the possibility of using a fuel pretreatment system in modern compression ignition CI engines, the main task of which is the reduction of toxic emissions in the form of exhaust gases. This fuel pretreatment system consists of a catalytic reactor used in common rail (CR), and a modified fuel atomizer into spiral‒elliptical channels covered with catalytic material. In the system presented here, platinum was the catalyst. The catalyst’s task is to cause the dehydrogenation reaction of paraffin hydrocarbons contained in the fuel to create an olefin form, with the release of a free hydrogen molecule. In the literature, the methods of using catalysts in the exhaust systems of engines, or in combustion chambers, injection pumps, or fuel injectors, are known. However, the use of a catalytic reactor in the CR system in a high-pressure fuel atomizer rail is an innovative project proposed by the authors. Conditions in the high-pressure CR system are favorable for the catalyst’s operation. In addition, the spiral‒elliptical channels made on the inoperative part of the fuel atomizer needle increase the flow turbulence and contact surface for the catalyst.
This article discusses the potential applications of the Fuel Shot liquid catalyst in compression ignition (CI) engines for reducing toxic substances in exhaust gases. Incorporating catalysts into fuel can optimize the combustion process, consequently reducing the emission of toxic substances into the atmosphere. Toxic compounds, such as nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and hydrocarbons, adversely affect flora and fauna. Various methods are known for reducing their concentration in engine exhaust gases, one of which is the Fuel Shot liquid catalyst. The authors conducted experiments on a Fiat 1.3 JTD engine with a Common Rail system. The results indicate that the application of the liquid catalyst reduces the content of nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons in the exhaust gases and slightly decreases fuel consumption. Additionally, investigations were carried out on the engine’s injection apparatus, which was fueled with modified fuel. The findings demonstrate that the fuel additive does not affect the wear of precision parts of fuel injectors and high-pressure pumps.
The article describes the impact of hydrogen-containing vegetable fuels consumption with modern injection apparatus. The fuel in question is B100 rapeseed oil ethyl ester. The process of atomizing fuel in the engine at high temperature and in a high pressure chamber plays an important role in the combustion processes in the CI engine. The elements responsible for supplying fuel to the engine’s combustion chamber are the injectors and the injection pump. The paper presents the construction and operation of modern injection pumps and fuel injectors, the methods of their diagnosis are discussed, the important role of precision, and the course of their wear phenomenon are indicated. The paper discusses the impact of hydrogen-containing “green” vegetable fuels on the durability and reliability of injection pumps and fuel injectors used in Common Rail systems. In addition, the tests on the operating parameters of the fuel injector and pump operating on conventional fuel and hydrogen-containing “green” biofuel were carried out.
Issues related to the components of modern fuel equipment wear processes have been discussed. The fuel injector is one of the key elements of the fuel equipment system, because it is a device responsible for distributing and spraying hydrogen-containing fuel in the engine combustion chamber. It is mounted in the modern engine head directly in the combustion chamber. If the fuel injector is faulty, it affects the operating parameters and in particular the ecological parameters of the modern engine, such as the emission of toxic substances into the environment. Additionally, a hydrogen reactor has been installed in the Common Rail (CR) system, the task of which is to produce hydrogen. As a result of the temperature prevailing in the operating environment of the injection equipment, various types of wear occur inside the system, including hydrogen degradation. The types of degradation processes of precision pairs of modern fuel injectors have been analyzed and classified. Microscopic tests were performed to analyze the contamination in the fuel system and to compare the ecological parameters of the engine operating on efficient and worn fuel injectors. The emission of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and soot has been analyzed as a key ecological parameter. It has been established that the loss of precision of pairs of elements of a damaged fuel injector significantly affects the size of the injection doses of the fuel mixture containing hydrogen.
