The implementation of a non-isolated dual input bridge type DC-DC converter for hybrid energy source integration is discussed in this paper. The proposed converter accommodates two sources using an inductor, a capacitor, two IGBTs without the anti-parallel diode and two IGBTs with the anti-parallel diode. The different modes of operation of the converter are explained with detailed analytical waveforms and equivalent circuits. From the analysis, the steady state output equation of the converter is derived. The boundary condition between the CCM and DCM operations is also derived. The dynamics of the converter is analyzed in detail with help of a small signal model. The step response of different transfer functions is discussed. The computer simulations of the proposed converter topology have been carried out using MATLAB/Simulink?. An experimental prototype of the proposed converter is also built and tested successfully in the laboratory environment. Performance comparison of the proposed converter is carried out with the conventional converter topologies in terms of component counts, efficiency, loss breakdown, and power density.

In this paper, two novel bridge type dual input dc-dc converter topologies are introduced for integrating two input energy sources. Out of the two topologies, the latter topology is an improved version of the former one. Both converters have the capability to simultaneously deliver power to the load from the input energy sources. The major advantages of the improved converter as compared with the basic topology are its capability to perform the buck, boost, and buck-boost modes of operation using the same structure and the ability to deliver power to the load even with the failure of any one of the input energy sources. Hence, the detailed software simulation of the improved converter has been performed using MATLAB/Simulink platform. Different analyses have been conducted by considering the parameters, such as the equivalent series resistance of the passive elements in the converter and efficiency of the converter, for better validation of the converter performance. The hardware prototype of the improved converter has been developed in the laboratory environment and tested successfully. The proposed converters have certain merits like less component count, compact structure, and efficient energy utilization, compared with existing converter topologies, which are already reported in the literature.

Nonisolated dc–dc converterswith multi-inputfeatures are very popular in the area of hybrid energy integration since they are compact and cost efficient compared to the isolated topologies. A dual-input hybrid step-up dc–dc converter (DIHDC) with a compact structure is introduced in this article. DIHDC operates based on the switched inductor technique. DIHDC has two inductors with equal values that are parallelly energized in the initial working modes (i.e., switch on condition) and dissipates the stored energy in series in the final working mode (switch off condition). Also, the proposed converter can be extended up to multiple inputs with slight modifications in the structure. Simple and compact structure, relatively higher efficiency, and good voltage conversion ratio are the potential merits of the new converter. Analysis of DIHDC in steady-state condition is explained elaborately and the simulation results are presented. Detailed dynamic analysis of the converter has been performed based on the small signal model of the converter and the necessary transfer functions are derived. A laboratory scale converter model is developed to confirm the efficient operation of DIHDC in realistic environments.

This paper introduces a transformerless three input dual output boost type DC-DC converter. By using one input energy source alone in electric vehicles (EVs), it is tough to offer load requirements due to the dynamic nature of load. Hence, the integration of diverse sources is crucial. The introduced converter is useful in the hybridization of different energy sources. Analysis of the converter with thorough circuit operations and essential equations are discussed. The equations for the output voltages and inductor current have been extracted. Converter validation has been conducted with the support of simulation results. Various simulation waveforms including inductor voltage, inductor current, switch voltages etc., have been incorporated to emphasize the proficient operation of the converter.

A single independent voltage source (Vin or Vbat) is used to regulate the speed of an E-vehicle (EV) with the same interval of switching pulses to generate different voltage ratios by charging/discharging the flying capacitors using a novel single-input multi-output (SIMO) DC-DC switched capacitor converter. In this work, various speed transmissions are generated for controlling the speed of EVs. The selected and regulated battery voltage are generated using the SIMO DC-DC converter. The proposed converter is used to generate seven different transmission in total, of which four transmissions are used for motoring (forwarding operation) and the other three transmissions act as regenerative braking. For motoring operation, the battery, fuel cell, and photovoltaic cell are used as a sources of energy, and for the regenerative braking, the regenerated voltage is fed back to store the battery. The SIMO DC-DC converter is used to support electronic accessories, such as LED lights, the EV audio system and other accessories, including mobile and laptop battery charging. The energy recovered during regenerative braking is used to charge the battery via a proposed SIMO DC-DC converter for different speed transmissions. In addition, simulation, modeling, and analysis are used to validate the proposed system. It is intended for a fixed voltage of 12 V and output voltages ranging from 12 to 48 V. The PSIM simulation tool is used to validate the system. The validation demonstrates that the suggested converter shows good evidence for both braking and regenerative braking operations.
