UHMWPE is resistant to acids, alkalis and radiation. Its combination of unique properties makes this material attractive for obtaining multifunctional coatings. However, in practice, obtaining coatings based on UHMWPE is associated with difficulties associated with low thermal conductivity and high viscosity of the material. The possibility of overcoming the technological problems of obtaining gas-thermal coatings based on UHMWPE was studied in the present work. A physical model of a flame with UHMWPE particles moving along the central axis was developed by the finite element method. The temperature along the central axis of the plume was determined. The interaction between a gas-thermal torch and a UHMWPE particle was established. It was determined that the residence time of UHMWPE particles in a gas-thermal flame is not enough for its complete penetration, which is the reason for the appearance of various defects. The interrelation of the particle heating rate in the torch depending on its diameter was determined. A new variant of coating deposition with preliminary heating of the powder in a fluidized bed was proposed. The thermal characteristics of UHMWPE powder were determined by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The allowable temperature interval for UHMWPE deposition was established. Coatings were obtained under various deposition modes. It was established using the methods of X-ray diffraction analysis and infrared spectroscopy that the structure of the crystal lattice of UHMWPE did not change after deposition. Significant oxidation processes do not occur during spraying. It was found using scanning electron microscopy that the coatings obtained with preliminary heating of the powder in a fluidized bed do not have air inclusions. The obtained results make it possible to obtain higher quality coatings.

This article presents the results of a study of a composite coating made of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) with a diabase filler obtained by flame spraying. Diabase of 10 wt.%, 20 wt.%, 30 wt.% and 40 wt.% was chosen as a filler. The polymer coating was applied to the St3 metal substrate using temperature control in a conventional flame spraying process. The coating was studied using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray phase analysis, infrared spectroscopy, abrasive wear resistance, microhardness testing and determination of the friction coefficient. It has been shown that diabases do not have a negative effect on the initial chemical structure of UHMWPE and it is not subjected to destruction during flame spraying. The introduction of diabase into the composition of UHMWPE with a content of 10–40% of the total mass does not adversely affect the crystalline structure of the coating. It has been established that with an increase in the volume of the diabase filler, the wear resistance of the composite coating based on UHMWPE increases. It has been determined that with the addition of diabase, the microhardness of the coatings increases.

In this work, the effect of an acidic environment on the structure of composite samples based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) modified with mineral filler in the form of diabase (DB) is studied. The stability of samples was investigated in solutions of sulfuric (H₂SO₄) and hydrochloric (HCl) acids with concentrations of 10 vol% and 20 vol% at room temperature for 16 weeks. It was found that the introduction of 10 wt% DB into the UHMWPE matrix significantly increases the resistance of the composite sample to aggressive media, which is confirmed by the minimum degree of swelling compared to pure UHMWPE and composites with higher filler content. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) demonstrated a uniform distribution of DB in the sample structure and the absence of defects such as agglomeration and cracks. The methods of infrared spectroscopy (IRS) and X-ray structural analysis (XRD) revealed a decrease in the degree of crystallinity of the samples after acid exposure, but no significant changes in the chemical structure of the materials were recorded, which confirms their resistance to chemical degradation. The best chemical resistance was demonstrated by composites containing 10 wt% DB, which is associated with the formation of a barrier structure preventing the diffusion of acids. The obtained results indicate the promising application of UHMWPE with DB filler to create samples resistant to aggressive media.

Fluorohypsum is a solid, large-tonnage waste generated during the production of hydrofluoric acid. The volume of accumulated waste in the world is hundreds of millions of tons, which makes its utilization an increasingly urgent task. This article presents the results of research aimed at the use of fluorohypsum as a component of building materials. On the basis of the obtained data, the technological scheme of manufacturing products based on anhydrite binder is developed. It was established that the introduction of specialized additives into gypsum–anhydrite mixtures significantly increases the bond strength with the base (up to four times). The mixture of gypsum and anhydrite with a 75/25 arrangement provides tensile strength of up to 4.3 MPa and bending strength of 1.8 MPa, which exceeds similar indicators for traditional building materials. An economic analysis has shown a 20–25% reduction in the cost of composite production compared to the use of natural gypsum, which provides cost savings and makes these materials competitive.

The values of the heat flux density, transverse and longitudinal temperature gradients of the gas-thermal burner torch, the type of reaction during the combustion in various modes (reducing, neutral, oxidizing) depending on the mass fractions of the fuel and oxidizer burning have been determined in this paper. The significant role of the torch temperature as one of the most important parameters determining the quality of polymer coatings obtained by the gas-thermal method has been established. A spatial model of a gas-thermal burner has been designed, which allows to obtain thermal modes at specified technological parameters. A physical model of the interactions “torch-polymer particle”, “thermal jet – base” has been developed. The necessary density of the torch heat flux for the complete melting of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) particles not exceeding the temperature threshold of destruction has been determined. The required rate of introduction the UHMWPE powders into the burner flame has been also determined. Based on the calculations of the “torch-polymer particle interaction”, the optimal geometry of the torch, the particles trajectory in the torch and the spraying distances have been determined.

This article presents both theoretical and experimental approaches to the development of biocompatible coatings based on hydroxyapatite modified with titanium dioxide for orthopedic implants made from Ti 13Nb-13Zr titanium alloy. The primary objective was to enhance the adhesion, mechanical strength and antibacterial properties of the coatings by employing a combined technique: micro-arc oxidation followed by gas-thermal spraying. The influence of electrolyte composition and micro-arc oxidation parameters on the coating’s morphology, surface roughness and adhesion strength were systematically investigated. The highest values of hardness and adhesion were achieved using electrolyte containing Na₂SiO₃, NaOH and Na₂S₂O₃ in conjunction with detonation sputtering method. Morphological and elemental analyses confirmed the density, uniform elemental distribution and minimal porosity of these coatings. Mechanical stability was verified through Rockwell B scale and Martens tests. The proposed dual-step surface treat ment strategy offers a promising route for tailoring implant surfaces with multifunctional properties. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed method can significantly improve the durability and perfor mance of orthopedic implants by producing biocompatible, corrosion-resistant, and mechanically robust coatings. Key words: Biocompatible coatings, micro-arc oxidation, surface modification, mechanical properties, surface roughness, coating adhesion.
