The identification of agricultural food production systems has gained importance in order to protect both human health and the environment. The importance of organic production system of agriculture which involves the application of natural processes and substances, and limits or completely eliminates the use of synthesized means is emphasized. Knowledge of the mineral composition in tomato samples can be used as a potent tool in the identification of chemical markers as potential indicators of the farming system. A set of tomato samples taken from two factorial randomized trials were comprehended eight different varieties, belonging to four tomato types: large—BEEF and CLUSTER, and mini and midi—CHERRY and PLUM tomatoes, cultivated under two different farming systems: integral (IPM) and organic (O) were characterized based on the composition of the minerals. A total of 44 elements were quantified. To establish criteria for the classification of the samples and confirm a unique set of parameters of variation among the types of production, sophisticated chemometric techniques were used. The results indicate that the accumulation of elements varies between 8 tomato varieties and 2 different growing systems. The contents of Al, Mn, As, Pb, and some of the rare-earth elements (REEs) are able to distinguish between production types. Examination of different hybrids, which belong to different types in two production systems: organic and integral within Zeleni hit (official Enza and Vitalis trial and breeding station), was done with the aim of reaching a methodology of diversification, ie complete traceability of organic production, and to contribute to distinguishing types of agricultural systems and enhancing the possibility of acquiring a valuable authenticity factor about the type of agricultural production system employed for the cultivation of tomatoes.
The research was carried out in three vegetative seasons 2015/16, 2016/17, and 2018/19, on an experimental plot in Padinska Skela, Belgrade, Serbia. The supplement included four NPK treatments (kg ha−1) and foliar treatment with effective microorganisms (EM 7 l ha−1) T1-129: 60: 60; T2-129: 60: 60 + 1 EM; T3-106: 60: 60 + 2 EM ; T4-83: 60: 60 + 3 EM. Four wheat genotypes were sown (Ratarica, Pobeda, Nogal, and Apache). Thousand grain weight and grain yield were determined. The thousand grain weight (TGW) was in the variety Pobeda 43.73 g, and the highest grain yield was in the variety Ratarica 7.02 tha−1. Both varieties are medium late, bread varieties. The treatments have different effects on the studied variables. The TGW was the highest in the T2 treatment of 40.81 g and the grain yield in T3 of 6.62 t ha−1, which was at the level of statistical significance of p > 0.01. The crude protein content was highest in the treatment of T2 13.93% (p > 0.01).
The aim of the work was to examine the influence of cover crops with the application of microbiological fertilizer on the nutritional properties and antioxidant activity of sweet corn as a response to the resulting climate changes. In the two-year research results (2014-2016), significant differences were found in the content of phenol, vitamin C, glutathione and protein. The average phenol content in the grain in the first examined year varied from 317.21 μg g-1 to 574.40 μg g-1, while in the second year it was measured from 842.98 μg g-1 to 1825.13 μg g-1. Common vetch (1777.02 μg g-1) and winter fodder pea (1251.68 μg g-1) showed the best results among cover crops, while microbiological fertilizers had no statistically significant effect. The average content of vitamin C was higher in the first year, especially in common vetch (30.80%) and the mixture of vetch with winter oats (32.56%) with the application of fertilizers. Winter forage kale showed superiority in terms of glutathione content, with average values from 1543.31 mmol g-1 to 1619.58 mmol g-1. A significant difference in glutathione content was observed in the second year in the mixture of common vetch and oats with fertilizer (1561.01 mmol g-1), compared to the same variety without fertilizer (762.40 mmol g-1). Common vetch as a cover crop showed an advantage in kernel protein content (11.68%), as well as a mixture of winter fodder peas and oats (11.64%). These results indicate the potential of cover crops to improve the nutritional quality of sweet corn.
In the structure of agricultural production in the Republic of Serbia, crop production is dominant, while the share of vegetables in crop production is small (about 3.5%). According to the research conducted by the Institute for the Application of Science in Agriculture during 2015-2019, one of the most profitable vegetable production is pepper production. The aim of this paper is to investigate the financial aspects of pepper (Capsicum annuum L) production as one of the most common vegetable crop in the Republic of Serbia, and to assess its economic viability. The following methods were used: survey, comparison, desk research, gross margin calculation and sensitivity analysis. Sensitivity analysis showed that in addition to the yield, the price also has a great influence on the amount of the gross margin. The price risk would be reduced if there were "contracted agricultural production", which would improve the profitability and sustainability of pepper production.
Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) became an "absolute hit" on the world market, thanks to its economic importance. Oil and various products with a high percentage of protein are obtained by processing soybeans, which are used in the nutrition of domestic animals and human nutrition as raw materials in various industries. Namely, its importance is reflected in the composition of the grain, i.e. 45% protein, 20-22% oil, 20-26% carbohydrates, 5% minerals (phosphorus, potassium, calcium, sulphur, magnesium, etc.) and many vitamins (mainly A and B) (Yalçin 2018). Zhang et al. (2013) state that soy proteins contain high-quality amino acids, which, in terms of quality and importance, can be a substitute for meat proteins in the diet, especially for vegetarians. Soybean oils are multi-beneficial for diets lacking in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Soybean oil is characterised by a good ratio of fatty acids, namely: unsaturated linoleic, oleic and linolenic acids, and as representatives of saturated fatty acids: palmitic and stearic acids (Wang et al. 2019).
Organic agriculture in Serbia is represented by only 0.4% of total agricultural production, which places Serbia at the back of list of European countries and countries in the region. Such production should be part of a rural development strategy. The aim of this work was to establish what would be the motivation of young people to start organic production, on which the perspective of this production depends. A survey conducted on 100 young people, students of the Unit for Agricultural and Business Studies and Tourism was used as a method of work. The results of the survey were summarized, presented as a percentage and described. The results of the survey indicate that 70% of respondents would like to engage in organic plant production, primarily due to the production of high quality food and environmental protection. However, the main shortcomings are insufficient information, insufficient financial support, difficult plant protection and insufficiently organized purchase of products. Most young people would choose to engage in fruit growing (53%).
