Boron (B) nanofertilizers are an innovative alternative with great potential to make nutrient application more efficient and thereby improve crop growth and productivity. However, nowadays there is little literature on the effects of boron nanofertilizers on physiological and biochemical processes in plants. Therefore, the objective of the present research was to study the efficacy of foliar application of a boron nanofertilizer on biomass, yield, nitrogen assimilation and photosynthetic activity in green beans plants cv. Strike. The B nanofertilizer was foliar applied at 0, 25, 50 and 100 ppm. Biomass accumulation, yield, nitrate reductase enzyme activity, photosynthetic activity, stomatal conductance and photosynthetic pigment content were evaluated. The results obtained indicate that the application of B nanofertilizer at dose of 25 ppm were more effective in improving biomass, while the dose of 100 ppm favoured nitrate reductase activity and stomatal conductance. The results suggest that the application of B nanofertilizers stimulated the development of green bean plants. Finally, more studies are needed to evaluate the possible phytotoxic effects of high doses of B nanofertilizers and to compare their effects with conventional B fertilizers already used in the market.

The jalapeño pepper is a vegetable of great economic importance worldwide. However, low germination efficiency, weak seedlings, and a high mortality rate during transplant compromise the viability and sustainability of the crop. An innovative solution is the nanopriming technique, an emerging and novel technology, which involves the imbibition of seeds for a specific period using mineral nanoparticles. The addition of micronutrients such as zinc and molybdenum has been used in seed germination and early seedling development due to their crucial roles. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of using zinc–molybdenum nanopriming in jalapeño pepper on germination and early growth. The results showed that applying nanopriming (124–10 mg L−1 of zinc–molybdenum) promotes the effectiveness on the imbibition and germination of jalapeño pepper seeds, resulting in heavier seeds with a better initial absorption. This method not only improves germination rates and seedling vigor, but also points towards more sustainable and efficient agriculture. Building on these findings, the zinc–molybdenum nanopriming method could potentially transform jalapeño pepper cultivation by enhancing seed quality and resilience. Nanopriming could help increase crop yields and minimize reliance on chemical inputs, such as fertilizers and pesticides, which might reduce production costs and environmental impact.

Foliar application with iron is a promising strategy for improving nitrogen nutrition and productivity in horticultural crops. In this study, the effect of the foliar application of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) compared to conventional iron sources on physiological, biochemical, and productive parameters of Spinacia oleracea L. was evaluated. Plants were treated with different concentrations (0, 25, 50, and 100 ppm) of IONPs, ferric sulfate (FS), and iron chelate (IC). Biomass, yield, nitrate reductase enzyme activity, soluble protein and amino acid contents, SPAD values, and photosynthetic pigments were analyzed. The results showed that IONPs, particularly at 50–100 ppm, promoted significant increases in biomass (50% more than the control), yield (47%), and nitrate reductase enzyme activity (NRmax) (246%) compared to the control (0 ppm) without negatively affecting pigment levels or leaf physiological condition. Likewise, increases in soluble protein and photosynthetic pigment levels were observed, reflecting improved nitrogen assimilation and photosynthetic efficiency. These findings suggest that IONPs represent an efficient and safe alternative to traditional Fe sources, contributing to the development of sustainable agricultural systems aimed at improving the nutritional value and productivity of leafy crops.

Nanopriming with metal nanoparticles (NPs) is a promising strategy for improving seedling quality in horticultural crops. This study evaluated the effects of hydropriming, ZnO, SiO2, ZnO + SiO2, a ZnMo nanofertilizer, and two commercial biostimulants (Osmoplant and Codasil) on the early development of Capsicum annuum L. seedlings. Morphological, physiological, and biochemical traits, including biomass, stem architecture, number of leaves, chlorophylls, carotenoids, SPAD index, and nitrate reductase (NR) activity, were measured under controlled conditions. The ZnO and ZnO + SiO2 treatments promoted stronger root growth, higher pigment content, and higher NR activity. SiO2 alone and ZnMo showed intermediate improvements, while Osmoplant and Codasil had more limited effects. Multivariate analyses provided complementary information: heat maps revealed correlations between traits, PCA differentiated treatment responses, and radar charts integrated performance profiles. Overall, the results provide promising evidence that seed nanopriming, particularly with ZnO and ZnO + SiO2, improves seedling vigor and transplant potential in jalapeño peppers.
