In the context of the current sharing economy, the application of shared energy storage (SES) among local integrated energy systems (LIESs) is underexplored. There is an urgent need for developing appropriate modeling and solution methods so as to facilitate the application of SES among LIESs. To this end, this paper proposes a cooperative-game-based day-ahead scheduling model of LIESs with SES. The proposed model can be transformed into a sequential two-step optimization problem for alleviating the computational complexity. More specifically, the subproblem of cooperative alliance profit maximization is established in the first step to obtain the optimal scheduling strategies of each LIES, while the subproblem of SES bargaining is constructed in the second step to obtain the optimal pricing information. Besides, a distributed solution algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers with a warm start and dual update accelerated iteration strategies (ADMM-W-D) is proposed to effectively preserve the privacy of each LIES and improve the convergence performance of traditional ADMM. Case studies show that the proposed model can achieve lower operating costs and higher renewable energy consumption levels of LIESs after considering SES. It is also demonstrated that the proposed algorithm based on ADMM-W-D has stronger convergence and better scalability than traditional algorithms.

With the deployment of phasor measurement units (PMU) and wide area measurement system (WAMS), it is feasible to have an insight into the events occurred in power systems based on measured data. Thus, a novel data-driven algorithm based on local outlier factor (LOF) is proposed in this work to detect and locate events in power systems using reduced PMU data. First, the unequal-interval reduction method is presented to reduce the scale of PMU data in sub-stations and reconstruct it in master station of WAMS, which can relieve the burden of communication systems. Then, principle component analysis (PCA)-based similarity search method is proposed to measure the differences of operation state between any two buses. Next, LOF is presented to detect the abnormal events in power systems, and employed to determine the region of the event source. Finally, six cases from the Western electricity coordinating council (WECC) 179-bus power system, a case from the South China power system (SCPS), and a case from the Guangdong power system (GDPS) are utilized to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The results show that proposed algorithm is effective and can be applied to event detection, event location, and online monitoring, which can enhance the situation awareness ability of power system operators.

Unbalanced operation of a three-phase distribution system could incur more power losses, compared with the balanced operation. So far, the phase information of users in low voltage areas is not recorded by power utilities and the three-phase unbalance degree is very significant in some low voltage distribution systems. Given this background, this letter presents an integrated method for solving related issues including user phase identification based on spectral clustering and three-phase unbalance mitigation, and a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is then formulated. Some actual cases in Zhejiang province, China, are utilized to verify the effectiveness of the presented phase identification algorithm, and simulation results show that the three-phase unbalance can be significantly mitigated.

With the fast growth of renewable energy sources (RES), more and more uncertainties are involved and influencing the stable operation of power systems. Controlled islanding is the last measure to prevent power system blackouts, thus this paper aims to propose a novel model of system separation based on Online Coherency Identification and Adjustable Robust Optimization Programming (OCI-AROP) for minimizing load shedding considering the uncertainties of RES. First, Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering method with F-statistics is utilized to identify the coherent generator groups with the frequency data measured by Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). Then, the OCI-AROP model considering coherent group constraints, connectivity constraints and robustness constraints about RES are presented. Finally, the case studies on IEEE-39 bus system and WECC-179 bus system are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed OCI-AROP model, and comparisons among the OCI-AROP model and the other models are also given to show its superiority.

Electricity theft behaviors have caused great harm to the economic benefits of power companies and the secure operation of power systems, thus electricity theft detection is paid much attention in the actual power supply management. In this work, a two-step electricity theft detection strategy is proposed to identify electricity theft users and predict potentially stolen electricity (PSE) for maximizing economic return. In the first step, a neural network model called convolutional autoencoder (CAE) is proposed for electricity theft identification, and the convolutional layer is adopted in CAE to extract and identify the abnormalities of electricity theft users against the uniformity and periodicity of normal power consumption features. In the second step, the PSE of each identified electricity theft user is predicted by the improved regression algorithm named Tr-XGBoost, which combines the extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) algorithm and transfer adaptive boosting (TrAdaBoost) training strategy. The propsoed Tr-XGBoost could learn the relationship between the extracted electricity features and the PSE of each electricity theft user, and then the predicted PSE can be used to determine the list of electricity theft users to be inspected for maximizing economic return. Case studies on both the IEEE 33-bus test system and a low-voltage distribution system of a province in China show that the proposed two-step electricity theft detection strategy can improve the accuracy of electricity theft identification, and obtain a larger economic return because of a more accurate result of PSE prediction than other state-of-the-art algorithms.

The emerging concentrating solar power plant (CSPP) represents one of the promising technologies for promoting solar power applications. In this work, risk-constrained day-ahead (DA) scheduling strategies for a virtual power plant (VPP) integrating a CSPP with some responsive residential and industrial loads are proposed considering the uncertainties of electricity price, thermal production of the solar field of the CSPP, and participation factor of residential demand response (RDR). The well-established information gap decision theory (IGDT) is utilized to hedge against the risk caused by these uncertainties. Based on IGDT, both a robust scheduling strategy for the risk-aversion (RA) decision maker and an opportunistic scheduling strategy for the opportunity-seeking (OS) decision maker are presented for hedging the profit risk of the VPP against variations of electricity price, thermal production and demand response. Simulation results show that the presented IGDT based method can act as an effective tool for managing risks from uncertainties, and also demonstrate that the RA VPP should focus more on the thermal production of the CSPP so as to guarantee the desired profit, whereas the OS VPP should pay more attention to the market price so as to achieve a windfall profit.
