Concerns about fire risk reduction and rescue tactics have been raised in light of recent incidents involving flammable cladding systems and fast fire spread in high-rise buildings worldwide. Thus, governments, engineers, and building designers should prioritize fire safety. During a fire event, an emergency evacuation system is indispensable in large buildings, which guides evacuees to exit gates as fast as possible by dynamic and safe routes. Evacuation plans should evaluate whether paths inside the structures are appropriate for evacuations, considering the building’s electric power, electric controls, energy usage, and fire/smoke protection. On the other hand, the Internet of Things (IoT) is emerging as a catalyst for creating and optimizing the supply and consumption of intelligent services to achieve an efficient system. Smart buildings use IoT sensors for monitoring indoor environmental parameters, such as temperature, humidity, luminosity, and air quality. This research proposes a new way for a smart building fire evacuation and control system based on the IoT to direct individuals along an evacuation route during fire incidents efficiently. This research utilizes a hybrid nature-inspired optimization approach, Emperor Penguin Colony, and Particle Swarm Optimization (EPC-PSO). The EPC algorithm is regulated by the penguins’ body heat radiation and spiral-like movement inside their colony. The behavior of emperor penguins improves the PSO algorithm for sooner convergences. The method also uses a particle idea of PSO to update the penguins’ positions. Experimental results showed that the proposed method was executed accurately and effectively by cost, energy consumption, and execution time-related challenges to ensure minimum life and resource causalities. The method has decreased the execution time and cost by 10.41% and 25% compared to other algorithms. Moreover, to achieve a sustainable system, the proposed method has decreased energy consumption by 11.90% compared to other algorithms.

In this paper, we report new nanoscale plasmonic multiple inputs logic gates based on insulator-metal-insulator (IMI) nanoring waveguides. The proposed all-optical gates are numerically analyzed by the finite element method. NOT, AND, NAND, NOR, and EX-NOR all-optical logic gates were suitably designed and investigated based on the linear interface between the propagated waves through the waveguides. The operation wavelength was 1550 nm. The simulation results show that the optical transmission threshold of (0.26) which performs the operation of planned logic gates is accomplished. Moreover, simulation results show that our compact structure of all-optical logic gates may have potential applications in all-optical integrated networks.

In this paper, stochastic scheduling of a hybrid system (HS) composed of a photovoltaic (PV) array and wind turbines incorporated with a battery storage (HPV/WT/Batt) system in the distribution network was proposed to minimize energy losses, the voltage profile, and the HS cost, and to improve reliability in shape of the energy-not-supplied (ENS) index, considering energy-source generation and network demand uncertainties through the unscented transformation (UT). An improved escaping-bird search algorithm (IEBSA), based on the escape operator from the local optimal, was employed to identify the optimal location of the HS in the network in addition to the optimal quantity of PV panels, wind turbines, and batteries. The deterministic results for three configurations of HPV/WT/Batt, PV/Batt, and WT/Batt were presented, and the results indicate that the HPV/WT/Batt system is the optimal configuration with lower energy losses, voltage deviation, energy not supplied, and a lower HS energy cost than the other configurations. Deterministic scheduling according to the optimal configuration reduced energy losses, ENS, and voltage fluctuation by 33.09%, 53.56%, and 63.02%, respectively, compared to the base network. In addition, the results demonstrated that the integration of battery storage into the HPV/WT enhanced the various objectives. In addition, the superiority of IEBSA over several well-known algorithms was proved in terms of obtaining a faster convergence, better objective value, and lower HS costs. In addition, the stochastic scheduling results based on the UT revealed that the uncertainties increase the power losses, voltage deviations, ENS, and HPV/WT/Batt cost by 2.23%, 5.03%, 2.20%, and 1.91%, respectively, when compared to the deterministic scheduling.

In this paper, stochastic sizing of a stand-alone Photovoltaic/Hydrokinetic/Hydrogen storage energy system is performed with aim of minimizing the cost of project life span (COPL) and satisfying the reliability index as probability of load shortage (POLS). The stochastic sizing is implemented using a novel framework considering two-point estimate method (2m+1 PEM) and improved gradient-based optimizer (IGBO). The 2m+1 PEM is used to evaluate the impact of uncertainties of energy resource generation and system demand on sizing problem. The 2m+1 PEM utilizes the approximate method to account for these uncertainties. In order to avoid premature convergence, the gradient-based optimizer (GBO), a meta-heuristic algorithm influenced by Newtonian concepts, is enhanced using a dynamic lens-imaging learning approach. The size of the system devices, which is determined utilizing the IGBO with the COPL minimization and optimally satisfying the POLS, is one of the optimization variables. The results of three hPV/HKT/FC, hPV/FC, and hHKT/FC configurations of the system are presented in two situations of deterministic and stochastic sizing without and with taking uncertainty into consideration. The findings showed that the hPV/HKT/FC configuration and the IGBO performed better than other configurations and techniques like conventional GBO, particle swarm optimization (PSO), and artificial electric field algorithm (AEFA) to achieve the lowest COPL and POLS (higher reliability) in various cases. Additionally, the COPL for the hPV/HKT/FC, hPV/FC, and hHKT/FC configurations increased by 7.63%, 7.57%, and 7.65%, respectively, while the POLS fell by 5.01%, 4.48%, and 4.59%, respectively, contrasted to the deterministic sizing, according to the results of stochastic sizing based on 2m+1 PEM. As a result, the findings indicate that in the deterministic sizing model, the quantity of output and energy storage is insufficient to meet demand under unknown circumstances. Applying stochastic sizing while taking into account the volatility of both supply and demand can, therefore, be an economically sound way to meet demand.

WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) is used in this project to simultaneously send data over several channels at high speed. Single mode fiber is favored over Multimode fiber for long-distance communication. As data rate and optical fiber length grow, the quality factor falls. Dispersion effects on an 8-channel dense WDM system at a high data rate will be examined using the Optisystem 10 simulator. A dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) and an Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) are used to compensate for the dispersion and attenuation in the transmitted optical signal, respectively. Bit error rate (BER) and eye diagram analyzers were used to evaluate the optical communication system's performance.
