Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have revolutionized the era of conventional computing into a digitized world, commonly known as “The Internet of Things”. WSN consists of tiny low-cost sensing devices, having computation, communication and sensing capabilities. These networks are always debatable for their limited resources and the most arguable and critical issue in WSNs is energy efficiency. Sensors utilize energy in broadcasting, routing, clustering, on-board calculations, localization, and maintenance, etc. However, primary domains of energy consumption at node level are three i.e. sensing by sensing-module, processing by microprocessor and communication by radio link. Extensive sensing, over-costs processing and frequent communication not only minimize the network life-time, but also affects the availability of these resources for other tasks. To increase life-time and provide an energy-efficient WSN, here we have proposed a new scheme called “A Content-based Adaptive and Dynamic Scheduling (CADS) using two ways communication model in WSNs”. CADS dynamically changes a node states during data aggregation and each node adapts a new state based on contents of the sensed data packets. Analyzer module at the Base-Station investigates contents of sensed data packets and regulates functions of a node by transmitting control messages in a backward direction. CADS minimizes energy consumption by reducing unnecessary network traffic and avoid redundant message-forwarding. Simulation results have been shown that it increases energy-efficiency in terms of network life-time by 9.65% in 100 nodes-network, 11.36% in 150 nodes-network and 0.94% in 300 nodes. The proposed scheme is also showing stability in terms of increasing cluster life by 87.5% for a network of 100 nodes, 94.73% for 150 nodes and 53.9% in 300 nodes.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a new paradigm that connects objects to provide seamless communication and contextual information to anyone, anywhere, at any time (AAA). These Internet-of-Things-enabled automated objects interact with visitors to present a variety of information during museum navigation and exploration. In this article, a smart navigation and information system (SNIS) prototype for museum navigation and exploration is developed, which delivers an interactive and more exciting museum exploration experience based on the visitor’s personal presence. The objects inside a museum share the information that assist and navigate the visitors about the different sections and objects of the museum. The system was deployed inside Chakdara Museum and experimented with 381 users to achieve the results. For results, different users marked the proposed system in terms of parameters such as interesting, reality, ease of use, satisfaction, usefulness, and user friendly. Of these 381 users, 201 marked the system as most interesting, 138 marked most realistic, 121 marked it as easy-in-use, 219 marked it useful, and 210 marked it as user friendly. These statistics prove the efficiency of SNIS and its usefulness in smart cultural heritage, including smart museums, exhibitions and cultural sites.

The emergence of smart and embedded devices and the adaptation of new technologies with the Internet of Things have entirely changed online shopping with a new ecommerce paradigm. However, while the accessibility of IoT services has many advantages, it also creates hazards to customerrelated data. Due to pervasive e-commerce services, anyone can intercept and be compromised, creating great security and privacy concerns. To address these security challenges and to provide lightweight authentication for all entities, we introduce a “Lightweight Mutual Authentication (LMA) Scheme for Connected Devices in IoT”. The proposed scheme uses automatic and mutual authentication for all entities, employing a distributed approach within a server-based architecture. It is lightweight because it provides a secure way of using e-services with fewer steps, and it is automotive because the entities automatically authenticate each other. The LMA is formally validated in TCL, and the experimental results show that it decreases computation cost by about 56%, increases throughput by about 33.3%, and communication cost remains the same as the average of the other three schemes. In evaluation, the results demonstrate that the presence of the LMA leads to a 20-millisecond increase in delay and a 2% decrease in PDR for 100 devices.

Cognitive sensors are embedded in home appliances and other surrounding devices to create a connected, intelligent environment for providing pervasive and ubiquitous services. These sensors frequently create massive amounts of data with many redundant and repeating bit values. Cognitive sensors are always restricted in resources, and if careful strategy is not applied at the time of deployment, the sensors become disconnected, degrading the system’s performance in terms of energy, reconfiguration, delay, latency, and packet loss. To address these challenges and to establish a connected network, there is always a need for a system to evaluate the contents of detected data values and dynamically switch sensor states based on their function. Here in this article, we propose a reinforcement learning-based mechanism called “Adaptive Scheduling in Cognitive IoT Sensors for Optimizing Network Performance using Reinforcement Learning (ASC-RL)”. For reinforcement learning, the proposed scheme uses three types of parameters: internal parameters (states), environmental parameters (sensing values), and history parameters (energy levels, roles, number of switching states) and derives a function for the state-changing policy. Based on this policy, sensors adjust and adapt to different energy states. These states minimize extensive sensing, reduce costly processing, and lessen frequent communication. The proposed scheme reduces network traffic and optimizes network performance in terms of network energy. The main factors evaluated are joint Gaussian distributions and event correlations, with derived results of signal strengths, noise, prediction accuracy, and energy efficiency with a combined reward score. Through comparative analysis, ASC-RL enhances the overall system’s performance by 3.5% in detection and transition probabilities. The false alarm probabilities are reduced to 25.7%, the transmission success rate is increased by 6.25%, and the energy efficiency and reliability threshold are increased by 35%.

Cataracts are a leading cause of blindness in Pakistan, contributing to more than 54% of blindness cases in Pakistan, primarily due to poor living conditions, nutritional deficiencies, and limited healthcare access. Early detection is critical to avoid invasive treatments, but current diagnostic approaches often identify cataracts at advanced stages. This paper presents an advanced, automated cataract detection system using deep learning specifically the ResNet-50 architecture, to address this gap. The model processes fundus retinal images curated from diverse datasets, classified by ophthalmologic experts through a rigorous three-stage process. By leveraging the ResNet-50 model, cataracts are categorized into normal, moderate, and severe, achieving an accuracy of 97.15% on full images. Notably, the system performs well even on partial images with 70% visibility, maintaining an accuracy of 95.23%, thus minimizing the need for extensive images restoration. The dataset was augmented to include 17,500 images, ensuring robust training. The model's ability to detect cataracts with high precision in images with varying visibility(70%, 80%, 85% and beyond) demonstrate its flexibility and reliability, consistently achieving accuracy above 95.50%. This research offers a non-invasive, efficient solution particularly suited for remote areas, addressing the limitations of the late-stage diagnoses. It represents a significant advancement in cataract detection and has the potential to revolutionize global cataracts identification through early, accurate intervention.
