This study is an elaboration on the conference article written by the same authors, which presented the results of laboratory tests on the biogas efficiency of the following substrates: maize silage (MS), pig manure (PM), potato waste (PW), and sugar beet pulp (SB). This article presents methane yields from the same substrates, but also on a technical scale. Apart from that, it presents an original methodology of defining the Biochemical Methane Potential Correction Coefficient (BMPCC) based on the calculation of biomass conversion on an industrial scale and on a laboratory scale. The BMPCC was introduced as a tool to enable uncomplicated verification of the operation of a biogas plant to increase its efficiency and prevent undesirable losses. The estimated BMPCC values showed that the volume of methane produced in the laboratory was overestimated in comparison to the amount of methane obtained under technical conditions. There were differences observed for each substrate. They ranged from 4.7% to 17.19% for MS, from 1.14% to 23.58% for PM, from 9.5% to 13.69% for PW, and from 9.06% to 14.31% for SB. The BMPCC enables estimation of biomass under fermentation on an industrial scale, as compared with laboratory conditions.

The study presents the results of structural and electrical conductivity investigations of a Cu1.3Mn1.7O4 spinel obtained using EDTA gel processes. An amorphous gel was synthesized and calcinated for 5 h in air at temperatures of 673, 773, 873, and 973 K. When calcinating the gel at temperatures below 973 K, the obtained powders consisted of two phases—the regular Cu1.5Mn1.5O4 spinel and manganese(III) oxide. At 973 K, Mn2O3 was no longer observed, but a new Mn3O4 phase appeared in addition to the Cu1.5Mn1.5O4 spinel. Green bodies prepared from these powders were sintered for 2 h in air at 1393 K. The obtained sinters had a porosity of around 12% and were composed predominantly of the spinel phase, with minor amounts of Mn3O4 and, in the case of three of four sinters—CuO. Electrical conductivity measurements were taken over the temperature range of 300-1073 K. A change in the character of conductivity of the studied sinters was observed in the range of 400-430 K, and it was associated with an increase in activation energy from 0.20 to 0.56 eV. The electrical conductivity of the studied sinters ranged from 74.8 to 88.4 S cm−1, which makes the Cu1.3Mn1.7O4 material suitable for application as a protective-conducting coating in IT-SOFC ferritic stainless steel interconnects.

Understanding how sectoral CO2 emissions shape sustainable development outcomes is essential for designing effective energy and economic strategies within the European Union (EU). This study presents a multidimensional analysis of CO2 emissions, the contributions of individual sectors, and their connections to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Using Bayesian network analysis, the research identifies significant interdependencies between emission reductions and progress in sustainable development, highlighting the complex relationship between energy transition, economic growth, and social justice. The findings show that total CO2 emissions in the EU have decreased since 1990; however, the rate of reduction varies across sectors and member states. The most substantial decreases have been recorded in the energy sector, while industrial processes and agriculture show slower progress. Economic crises, such as the 2008 financial collapse and the COVID-19 pandemic, have led to temporary declines in emissions; however, lasting achievements in sustainability require structural transformations rather than short-term disruptions. The Bayesian model reveals strong connections between emission reductions and progress on clean energy (SDG 7), responsible consumption (SDG 12), and climate action (SDG 13), while also indicating indirect impacts on economic growth (SDG 8) and social equity. This highlights the importance of integrated policymaking to maximise the benefits of sustainable development. This study provides a data-driven foundation for enhancing EU climate strategies, ensuring that emission reductions support environmental goals, economic resilience, and social well-being.

Managing asbestos waste presents a significant challenge due to the widespread industrial use of this material, and the serious health and environmental risks it poses. Despite its unique properties, such as resistance to high temperatures and substantial mechanical strength, asbestos is a material with well-documented toxicity and carcinogenicity. Ensuring the safe removal and disposal of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) is crucial for protecting public health, the environment, and for reducing CO2 emissions resulting from inefficient waste disposal methods. Traditional landfill disposal methods have proven inadequate, while modern approaches—including thermal, chemical, biotechnological, and mechanochemical methods—offer potential benefits but also come with limitations. In particular, thermal techniques that allow for asbestos degradation can significantly reduce environmental impact, while also providing the opportunity to repurpose disposal products into materials useful for cement production. Cement, a key component of concrete, can serve as a sustainable alternative, minimizing CO2 emissions and reducing the need for primary raw materials. This work provides insights into research on asbestos waste management, offering a deeper understanding of key initiatives related to asbestos removal. It presents a comprehensive review of best practices, innovative technologies, and safe asbestos management strategies, with particular emphasis on their impact on sustainable development and CO2 emission reduction. Additionally, it discusses public health hazards related to exposure to asbestos fibers, and worker protection during the asbestos disposal process. As highlighted in the review, one promising method is the currently available thermal degradation of asbestos. This method offers real opportunities for repurposing asbestos disposal products for cement production; thereby reducing CO2 emissions, minimizing waste, and supporting sustainable construction.

Operational research, i.e. searching for optimal solutions in a situation of uncertainty and risk, can also be used to support decisions to purchase expensive agricultural machinery. Although Polish farmers receive subsidies from the EU, it does not mean they do not need to make well-thought-out purchases, because wrong purchase decisions will have long-term consequences while using machinery. The article presents the results of the IFOP – the system which has been available on the Internet for several years. It collects data on farming machinery and vehicles based on users' voluntary but subjective opinions. The authors of this article developed an original multi-criteria method of evaluating the quality of these specific products, which enabled them to make relevant rankings of brands. It is an algorithmic-heuristic method, which uses pairwise comparison tools to determine the significance ratios of the criteria. This article presents the results of the 1st and 2nd IFOP edition (Race Ranking), which included several dozen brands of tractors registered in Poland. More than fifty qualitative (Q) and non-qualitative (C) traits of farm tractors were taken into account. According to Polish farmers, Valtra – a Finnish brand of farm tractors, part of the AGCO concern, was the most versatile (Q = 4.39 and Q&C = 4.23). These tractors received the best opinions for their functionality, durability, ergonomics and safety.

The analysis of the reliability parameters of a technical object and the determination of the change in the reliability of the object over time, requires the knowledge of the functional characteristics and reliability parameters of the elements included in a system. On the basis of the failure data of the selected element of the object, in this case the vehicle, it is possible to determine the average working time to failure of the element and the appropriate form of distribution that characterizes the reliability and durability parameters of the tested element. The main purpose of the research presented in the article was to develop a method of assessing the reliability of an electronic component of a vehicle-a boot lid contactor. This paper also presents three possible methods of repairing the boot lid contactor (sealing the housing with adhesive with better way, replacing the element with a new one or the most time-consuming solution, changing the shape of the boot lid). The authors also decided to determine the reliability and cost parameters that will allow preventive replacement of this element. The tests were carried out on a fleet of 61 vehicles of the same model, but with different body structures. Contactor failures were reported in 41 cases, of which 29 were in the hatchback construction and 12 in the estate type. The analysis of the distribution selection for the tested part of the passenger car-the boot lid contactor-was performed using the Likelihood Value (LKV) test to determine the rank of distributions. Also the maximum likelihood (MLE) method was used to estimate the distribution parameters. The three-parameter Weibull distribution was the best-fitted distribution in both cases. It was clearly defined that one model of car with two different types of body have vastly different reliability characteristic. Based on the reliability characteristic and parameters, the appropriate preventive actions can be taken, minimizing the risk of damage, thus avoiding financial losses and guaranteeing an appropriate level of vehicle safety.
