YOLO has become a central real-time object detection system for robotics, driverless cars, and video monitoring applications. We present a comprehensive analysis of YOLO’s evolution, examining the innovations and contributions in each iteration from the original YOLO up to YOLOv8, YOLO-NAS, and YOLO with transformers. We start by describing the standard metrics and postprocessing; then, we discuss the major changes in network architecture and training tricks for each model. Finally, we summarize the essential lessons from YOLO’s development and provide a perspective on its future, highlighting potential research directions to enhance real-time object detection systems.

This paper presents a comprehensive review of loss functions and performance metrics in deep learning, highlighting key developments and practical insights across diverse application areas. We begin by outlining fundamental considerations in classic tasks such as regression and classification, then extend our analysis to specialized domains like computer vision and natural language processing including retrieval-augmented generation. In each setting, we systematically examine how different loss functions and evaluation metrics can be paired to address task-specific challenges such as class imbalance, outliers, and sequence-level optimization. Key contributions of this work include: (1) a unified framework for understanding how losses and metrics align with different learning objectives, (2) an in-depth discussion of multi-loss setups that balance competing goals, and (3) new insights into specialized metrics used to evaluate modern applications like retrieval-augmented generation, where faithfulness and context relevance are pivotal. Along the way, we highlight best practices for selecting or combining losses and metrics based on empirical behaviors and domain constraints. Finally, we identify open problems and promising directions, including the automation of loss-function search and the development of robust, interpretable evaluation measures for increasingly complex deep learning tasks. Our review aims to equip researchers and practitioners with clearer guidance in designing effective training pipelines and reliable model assessments for a wide spectrum of real-world applications.

Digital transformation is reshaping the healthcare field by streamlining diagnostic workflows and improving disease management. Within this transformation, Digital Twins (DTs), which are virtual representations of physical systems continuously updated by real-world data, stand out for their ability to capture the complexity of human physiology and behavior. When coupled with Artificial Intelligence (AI), DTs enable data-driven experimentation, precise diagnostic support, and predictive modeling without posing direct risks to patients. However, their integration into healthcare requires careful consideration of ethical, regulatory, and safety constraints in light of the sensitivity and nonlinear nature of human data. In this review, we examine recent progress in DTs over the past seven years and explore broader trends in AI-augmented DTs, focusing particularly on movement rehabilitation. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of how DTs bolstered by AI can transform healthcare delivery, medical research, and personalized care. We discuss implementation challenges such as data privacy, clinical validation, and scalability along with opportunities for more efficient, safe, and patient-centered healthcare systems. By addressing these issues, this review highlights key insights and directions for future research to guide the proactive and ethical adoption of DTs in healthcare.

This review explores the use of machine learning (ML) techniques for detecting pests and diseases in crops, which is a significant challenge in agriculture, leading to substantial yield losses worldwide. This study focuses on the integration of ML models, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), which have shown promise in accurately identifying and classifying plant diseases from images. By analyzing studies published from 2019 to 2024, this work summarizes the common methodologies involving stages of data acquisition, preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction, and prediction to develop robust ML models. The findings indicate that the incorporation of advanced image processing and ML algorithms significantly enhances disease detection capabilities, leading to the early and precise diagnosis of crop ailments. This can not only improve crop yield and quality but also reduce the dependency on chemical pesticides, contributing to more sustainable agricultural practices. Future research should focus on enhancing the robustness of these models to varying environmental conditions and expanding the datasets to include a wider variety of crops and diseases. CNN-based models, particularly specialized architectures like ResNet, are the most widely used in the studies reviewed, making up 42.36% of all models, with ResNet alone contributing 7.65%. This highlights ResNet’s appeal for tasks that demand deep architectures and sophisticated feature extraction. Additionally, SVM models account for 9.41% of the models examined. The prominence of both ResNet and MobileNet reflects a trend toward architectures with residual connections for deeper networks, alongside efficiency-focused designs like MobileNet, which are well-suited for mobile and edge applications.

The main purpose of this study is to examine the implementation of active methodologies in the teaching–learning process in computer science. To achieve this objective, a systematic review using the PRISMA method was performed; the search for articles was conducted through the Scopus and Web of Science databases and the scientific search engine Google Scholar. By establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria, 15 research papers were selected addressing the use of various active methodologies which have had a positive impact on students’ learning processes. Among the principal active methodologies highlighted are problem-based learning, flipped classrooms, and gamification. The results of the review show how active methodologies promote significant learning, in addition to fostering more outstanding commitment, participation, and motivation on the students’ part. It was observed that active methodologies contribute to the development of fundamental cognitive and socio-emotional skills for their professional growth.

In the contemporary world, where the escalating demand for energy and the imperative for sustainable sources, notably solar energy, have taken precedence, the investigation into solar radiation (SR) has become indispensable. Characterized by its intermittency and volatility, SR may experience considerable fluctuations, exerting a significant influence on energy supply security. Consequently, the precise prediction of SR has become imperative, particularly in the context of the potential proliferation of photovoltaic panels and the need for optimized energy management. Several works in the existing literature review the state of the art in SR prediction, focusing on trends identified using machine learning (ML) or deep learning (DL) techniques. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding the integration of optimization algorithms with ML and DL techniques for SR prediction. This systematic review addresses this gap by studying prediction models for SR that leverage metaheuristic optimization algorithms alongside artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, aiming primarily for maximum prediction accuracy. Metaheuristic algorithms such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) have featured in 29% and 12.1% of the analyzed articles, respectively, while intelligent approaches like Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Extreme Learning Machine (ELM), and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) have emerged as the predominant choices, collectively accounting for 43.9% of the studies. Analysis has encompassed studies examining SR across hourly, daily, and monthly intervals, with daily intervals representing 48.7% of the focus. Noteworthy variables including temperature, humidity, wind speed, and atmospheric pressure have surfaced, capturing proportions of 90%, 68.2%, 56%, and 41.4%, respectively, within the reviewed literature.
