This study investigates how students of English Language and Literature Studies and those of Translation at the University of Maribor, Slovenia, perceive and engage with digital tools in academic and language learning contexts. Although students report high levels of confidence in their digital skills and express positive attitudes towards educational technologies, the survey results reveal a significant gap between perceived competence and actual usage. The study identifies the underutilization of institutional tools, limited awareness of resources available, and a reliance on general-purpose search engines rather than academic platforms. These findings highlight the need for improved digital literacy training, structured onboarding, and integration of digital tools into discipline-specific curricula. By focusing on a student population specializing in linguistics and translation in a Central and Eastern European context, this research contributes a localized perspective to broader discussions on digital transformation in higher education. The study offers applicable recommendations for enhancing institutional strategies and supporting students in becoming competent and critical users of educational technology.

The article examines how the US government used poetry and posters as instruments of propaganda during World War I to mobilize the nation and resources for their war effort and to denigrate the enemy, especially the German Emperor, Kaiser Wilhelm II. Two case studies are presented: the poem “Canning the Kaiser” by the American writer Upton Sinclair and the poster “Can Vegetables, Fruit and the Kaiser Too” by the Belgian-American artist Jozef Paul Verrees. The article explores the historical context of Sinclair’s poem as well as the use of humour, irony, and visual metaphors in both pieces of art to persuade the American public to conserve food, support the troops, and thus help defeat the Kaiser. A particular interest of this study lies in the idiomatic meaning of the phrase “Canning the Kaiser”, which is not only an intriguing linguistic issue but had a considerable impact on the development of the campaign.

This study is the first to examine recent migration from Bosnia and Herzegovina to China in the 21st century. It gives an overview of new Chinese geopolitical and economic circumstances, a historical analysis of migration flows between China and the rest of the world from the 19th to the 21st century, and a survey of recent emigration flows from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The second part presents the results of an empirical study of labour migration from Bosnia and Herzegovina to China and the experiences of 25 migrants, which was conducted using structured interviews The research results show that most in the group plan to stay in China permanently. Some would like to move to North America or Australia. It is characteristic that there are no gender gaps in terms of qualifications or career ambitions. The measures to combat COVID-19 implemented by the Chinese government affected the respondents in different ways.

This scoping review maps peer-reviewed scholarship on military chaplaincy (2014–2024) indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. We asked how chaplains’ roles, delivery models, collaborations, and methodological approaches relate to moral injury, suicide care, religious and ethnic plurality, and readiness. Searches (14 March 2025) yielded 217 records and after analysis 58 met our criteria analysis. We classified studies as outcomes (n=3), implementation/provider-facing (n=37), and conceptual/historical/policy/evidence syntheses (n=18). The literature depicts a maturing discipline, moving from traditional ad hoc pastoral responses towards structured, reproducible approaches. Military Chaplain collaboration with behavioural health and command is the most developed thematic area, supported by learning collaboratives and crisis protocols. Moral-injury interventions cluster into chaplain-only, co-facilitated, and protocolised narrative-ritual models, with promising but limited outcome signals. Evidence-informed practice is growing via screening, shared language, and brief interventions; comparative work highlights diverse measurement approaches, ethics, and governance across countries. Samples are heavily weighted toward Christian chaplains, male service members, and the U.S. VA/DoD contexts. Gaps include rigorous trials, non-U.S. and minority-faith contexts, mechanism testing, and economic evaluation.

The article explores the potential of PDFGear Copilot, a chatbot-based PDF editing tool, in assisting with the analysis of historical documents. We evaluated the chatbot's performance on a document relating to the Slovenian War of Independence. We included 25 factual and 5 interpretative questions to address its formal characteristics and content details, assess its capacity for in-depth interpretation and contextualized critical analysis, and evaluate the chatbot’s language use and robustness. The chatbot exhibited some ability to answer factual questions, even though its performance varied. It demonstrated proficiency in navigating document structure, named entity recognition, and extracting basic document information. However, performance declined significantly in tasks such as document type identification, content details, and tasks requiring deeper text analysis. For interpretative questions, the chatbot's performance was notably inadequate, failing to link cause-and-effect relationships and provide the depth and nuance required for historical inquiries.
