Sérgio Ivan Lopes is an Adjunct Professor and director of the graduation course in Networks and Computer Systems Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. He is the Director General at CiTin: Centro de Interface Tecnológico e Industrial, Researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações, and Board Member of ADiT-Lab: Applied Digital Transformation Laboratory. He holds a B.Sc. in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (Univ. Aveiro), an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering (Univ. Aveiro), a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (Univ. Aveiro), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management (Porto Business School). In 2015 he was awarded the First Prize of the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge (Ph.D. category), and in 2007 he received the Texas Instruments ESPA: Excellence in Signal Processing Award. He is the co-inventor of two patents and has authored more than 100 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He has been a researcher on several national and international R&D Projects. Since 2016, he has been a European Commission Expert (expert in Smart Cyber-Physical Systems). He is an IEEE Senior Member. He is the Professional Activities Coordinator of the IEEE Portuguese Section and Counselor in the Executive Committee of the IEEE IPVC Student Branch. His research interests include cyber-physical systems, IIoT/IoT, embedded systems, edge computing/intelligence, digital signal processing, and indoor positioning.
