Julien Moussa H. Barakat received the Ph.D. degree from Joseph Fourier University, Grenoble, France, in 2008. His doctoral work was carried out at the Laboratory of Electronics and Information Technology (LETI) of the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and at IMEP/Minatec, Grenoble, with a focus on 60 GHz antennas integrated on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) for smart dust applications. He received the B.Eng. degree in electrical engineering from Beirut Arab University, Lebanon, in 2003, and the M.Sc. degree in microwave and optical communications from Paul Sabatier University, France, in 2004.
He is currently an associate professor of electrical engineering at the American University of the Middle East (AUM), Kuwait. He is a senior member of the IEEE and a member of the OEA. Dr. Barakat has authored or co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications in antenna design, optical fiber communications, photonics, applied mathematics, and biomedical signal processing. His research interests include high-impedance surfaces, SOI-integrated millimeter-wave antennas, optical transmission, nonlinear mathematical physics (solitons and reaction-diffusion equations), machine learning, the Internet of Things, and the design of optical elements.
