High-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel is widely used in automotive industry for reduction of consumption and emissions. The microstructure and mechanical properties of two automotive HSLA steels with different strength grades were systematically investigated in present study. Microstructural characterization was conducted using optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), while mechanical properties were evaluated with Vickers hardness tester and tensile tests. Both steels exhibited a ferrite matrix with spheroidized carbides/pearlites. However, Sample A displayed equiaxed ferrite grains with localized pearlite colonies, while Sample B featured pronounced elongated ferrite grains with a band structure. Tensile testing revealed that Sample B had higher ultimate tensile stress and yield stress compared to Sample A. Texture analysis indicated that both steels were dominated by α-fiber and γ-fiber textures, with minor θ-fiber texture, resulting in minimal mechanical anisotropy between the rolling direction (RD) and transverse direction (TD). The quantitative assessment of strengthening mechanisms, based on microstructural parameters and experimental data, revealed that grain boundary strengthening dominates, with dislocation strengthening also contributing significantly. This work provides the first comprehensive quantification of individual strengthening contributions in automotive HSLA steels, offering critical guidance for developing further higher-strength automotive steels.

The Mg/Al composite plate was developed in aerospace and other fields. At present, through the corrugated rolling method, the bonding strength of Mg/Al composite plate could be increased and the warpage could be reduced. However, this still requires the straightening process to reach the parameters’ range. In this work, the original interface morphology of Mg/Al corrugated composite plate was obtained by experimental characterization. Based on the principle of elastoplastic mechanics, the equations of straightener parameters and straightening process parameters were obtained and the influencing factors were deduced. So, the straightening model was established in an Abaqus. The effects of straightener parameters and straightening process parameters on the interface morphology were analyzed and the interface morphology was expressed by amplitude and period length of the equation. The results showed that bending moment, shear strength and the reduction of second roll played roles on the interface morphology. After the first straightening unit, the amplitude increased by 1.1% and the period length increased by 3%. Finally, a complete straightening parameter was designed, which included straightener parameters, straightening process parameters and straightening temperature. The aim of this work was to provide a theoretical basis for establishing a high precision Mg/Al corrugated composite plate straightening model, which could improve the bonding strength while ensuring the straightening effect.

JCOE is a progressively advanced forming process that encompasses J-forming, C-forming, O-forming, and expansion technology. This methodology constitutes an efficacious means of producing high-strength pipes. In recent years, this process has been utilized in the manufacturing of small-diameter, thick-walled welded pipes using nickel-based alloy N08810 plates. This study establishes a mathematical model for key parameters in the pre-bending process, rooted in JCOE forming and plastic bending theory, and introduces a process optimization approach. Initially, by refining the mold configuration and executing simulation analyses, we comprehensively delineate the stress–strain distribution and metal flow dynamics during pre-bending. Furthermore, we unravel the influence of varying plate thicknesses on both the pre-bending force and springback bending angle. Ultimately, the veracity of our theoretical model and simulation protocol is substantiated through rigorous experimentation. The findings indicate that the optimized mold configuration yields superior pre-bending forces and springback bending angles compared to conventional methods, thereby furnishing a solid theoretical foundation for industrial applications.

This paper is focused on the rolling finite element simulation and experimental study of 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials. Firstly, single-pass rolling finite element simulations of the composite materials were conducted. The effects of rolling pass reduction and rolling speed on the warpage, interface strain difference, and stress of the 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials were evaluated, highlighting an ideal first-pass reduction of 30% and a rolling speed of 0.117 m/s. Based on these results, rolling finite element simulations under total reduction–pass conditions of 65%–3 passes, 75%–4 passes, and 85%–5 passes were conducted on 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials. The rolling process was found to be optimal for a total reduction of 85%–5 passes based on the ratio of the vertical compressive stress experienced by the Incoloy 825-side metal to the yield strength of Incoloy 825 at 1150 °C. Based on the results of single- and multi-pass finite element simulation experiments, microstructural observations and interface analyses were then conducted on the 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials after rolling. The bonding interface of the composite materials was found to be undulating, indicating good composite effects. In addition, Cr, Ni, and Fe at the interface of the composite materials exhibited a steep gradient of change, indicating trace element diffusion with a distance of 8.27 μm in the 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials. Finally, the interfacial bonding mechanism of the 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials was studied, and the results indicate that this mechanism is based on a combination of diffusion and recrystallization bonding mechanisms.

The utilization of 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials as high-pressure pipe manifold steel can not only improve the strength and hardness of the steel, but also improve its corrosion resistance. However, research on the heat treatment of 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials is still scarce. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the influence of solid solution treatment on the microstructure and properties of 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials. Firstly, the composite materials were subjected to solid solution treatment at temperatures ranging from 850 to 1100 °C with varied holding times of 1 h, 4 h, and 6 h. Microstructural analysis revealed that the solid solution treatment temperature had a more pronounced effect than the treatment time on the interface decarburization layer, carburization layer, and grain size. It was observed that the carburized layer thickness decreased while the decarburized layer thickness increased with an increase in the solid solution treatment temperature, oil cooling was found to enhance the hardness of the base layer of the composite materials, and the size of the original austenite grains of 20CrNiMo steel and Incoloy 825 increased with an increase in the solid solution treatment temperature. Secondly, the tensile properties, microhardness, and fracture morphology were evaluated after the composite materials underwent solid solution treatment at temperatures between 950 °C and 1100 °C for 1 h. The results indicated that increasing the solution temperature initially led to an increase in tensile strength and elongation after fracture, followed by a decrease; furthermore, the hardness of Incoloy 825 exhibited a declining trend, while the hardness of 20CrNiMo first decreased then increased. Thirdly, the shear properties and interfacial element diffusion of the composite materials were analyzed following solid solution treatment in a temperature range of 950 °C to 1100 °C for 1 h. The findings demonstrated that higher solid solution treatment temperatures induced full diffusion of Cr, Ni, and Fe atoms at the interface and softened the matrix, leading to an increase in the thickness of the diffusion layer and toughening of the composite interface. Therefore, the shear strength increased with an increase in the solid solution treatment temperature. Finally, the optimal solid solution treatment process for 20CrNiMo/Incoloy 825 composite materials was determined to be 1050 °C/1 h oil cooling, following which the composite materials had good comprehensive mechanical properties.
