One of the most expensive and fatal natural disasters in the world is forest fires. For this reason, early discovery of forest fires helps minimize mortality and harm to ecosystems and forest life. The present research enriches the body of knowledge by evaluating the effectiveness of an efficient wildfire and smoke detection solution implementing ensembles of multiple convolutional neural network architectures tackling two different computer vision tasks in a stage format. The proposed architecture combines the YOLO architecture with two weights with a voting ensemble CNN architecture. The pipeline works in two stages. If the CNN detects the existence of abnormality in the frame, then the YOLO architecture localizes the smoke or fire. The addressed tasks are classification and detection in the presented method. The obtained model’s weights achieve very decent results during training and testing. The classification model achieves a 0.95 F1-score, 0.99 accuracy, and 0.98e sensitivity. The model uses a transfer learning strategy for the classification task. The evaluation of the detector model reveals strong results by achieving a 0.85 mean average precision with 0.5 threshold (mAP@0.5) score for the smoke detection model and 0.76 mAP for the combined model. The smoke detection model also achieves a 0.93 F1-score. Overall, the presented deep learning pipeline shows some important experimental results with potential implementation capabilities despite some issues encountered during training, such as the lack of good-quality real-world unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-captured fire and smoke images.

The growth of biomedical engineering has made depression diagnosis via electroencephalography (EEG) a trendy issue. The two significant challenges to this application are EEG signals’ complexity and non-stationarity. Additionally, the effects caused by individual variances may hamper the generalization of detection systems. Given the association between EEG signals and particular demographics, such as gender and age, and the influences of these demographic characteristics on the incidence of depression, it would be preferable to include demographic factors during EEG modeling and depression detection. The main objective of this work is to develop an algorithm that can recognize depression patterns by studying EEG data. Following a multiband analysis of such signals, machine learning and deep learning techniques were used to detect depression patients automatically. EEG signal data are collected from the multi-modal open dataset MODMA and employed in studying mental diseases. The EEG dataset contains information from a traditional 128-electrode elastic cap and a cutting-edge wearable 3-electrode EEG collector for widespread applications. In this project, resting EEG readings of 128 channels are considered. According to CNN, training with 25 epoch iterations had a 97% accuracy rate. The patient’s status has to be divided into two basic categories: major depressive disorder (MDD) and healthy control. Additional MDD include the following six classes: obsessive-compulsive disorders, addiction disorders, conditions brought on by trauma and stress, mood disorders, schizophrenia, and the anxiety disorders discussed in this paper are a few examples of mental illnesses. According to the study, a natural combination of EEG signals and demographic data is promising for the diagnosis of depression.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is considered to be one of the world leaders in olive production accounting for about 6% of the global olive production. Given the fact that 94% of the olive groves are mainly rain-fed using traditional methods of production, the annual olive production is witnessing a noticeable fluctuation which is worse due to infectious diseases and climate change. Thus, early and effective detection of plant diseases is both required and urgent. Most farmers use traditional methods, for example, visual inspection or laboratory examination, to identify plant diseases. Currently, deep learning (DL) techniques have been shown to be useful methods for diagnosing olive leaf diseases and many other fields. In this work, we use a deep feature concatenation (DFC) mechanism to combine features extracted from input images using the two modern pretrained CNN models, i.e., ResNet50 and MobileNet. Hence, we propose MobiRes-Net: A neural network that is a concatenation of the ResNet50 and MobileNet models for overall improvement of prediction capability. To build the dataset used in the study, 5400 olive leaf images were collected from an olive grove using a remote-controlled agricultural unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a camera. The overall performance of the MobiRes-Net model achieved a classification accuracy of 97.08% which showed its superiority over ResNet50 and MobileNet that achieved classification accuracies of 94.86% and 95.63%, respectively.

Considering Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs) have limited power resources (low bandwidth, long propagation delays, and non-rechargeable batteries), it is critical that they develop solutions to reduce power usage. Clustering is one solution because it not only saves energy consumption but also improves scalability and data integrity. The design of UWSNs is vital to the development of clustering algorithms. The limited energy of sensor nodes, narrow transmission bandwidth, and unpredictable topology of mobile Underwater Acoustic Wireless Sensor Networks (UAWSNs) make it challenging to build an effective and dependable underwater communication network. Despite its success in data dependability, the acoustic underwater communication channel consumes the greatest energy at a node. Recharging and replacing a submerged node’s battery could be prohibitively expensive. We propose a network architecture called Member Nodes Supported Cluster-Based Routing Protocol (MNS-CBRP) to achieve consistent information transfer speeds by using the network’s member nodes. As a result, we use clusters, which are produced by dividing the network’s space into many minute circular sections. Following that, a Cluster Head (CH) node is chosen for each circle. Despite the fact that the source nodes are randomly spread, all of the cluster heads are linked to the circle’s focal point. It is the responsibility of the MNS-CBRP source nodes to communicate the discovered information to the CH. The discovered data will then be sent to the CH that follows it, and so on, until all data packets have been transferred to the surface sinks. We tested our techniques thoroughly using QualNet Simulator to determine their viability.

Increased traffic density, combined with global population development, has resulted in increasingly congested roads, increased air pollution, and increased accidents. Globally, the overall number of automobiles has expanded dramatically during the last decade. Traffic monitoring in this environment is undoubtedly a significant difficulty in various developing countries. This work introduced a novel vehicle detection and classification system for smart traffic monitoring that uses a convolutional neural network (CNN) to segment aerial imagery. These segmented images are examined to further detect the vehicles by incorporating novel customized pyramid pooling. Then, these detected vehicles are classified into various subcategories. Finally, these vehicles are tracked via Kalman filter (KF) and kernelized filter-based techniques to cope with and manage massive traffic flows with minimal human intervention. During the experimental evaluation, our proposed system illustrated a remarkable vehicle detection rate of 95.78% over the Vehicle Aerial Imagery from a Drone (VAID), 95.18% over the Vehicle Detection in Aerial Imagery (VEDAI), and 93.13% over the German Aerospace Center (DLR) DLR3K datasets, respectively. The proposed system has a variety of applications, including identifying vehicles in traffic, sensing traffic congestion on a road, traffic density at intersections, detecting various types of vehicles, and providing a path for pedestrians.
