With the development of recent innovative applications (e.g., augment reality, self-driving and various cognitive applications), more and more computationintensive and data-intensive tasks are delay-sensitive. Mobile edge computing in ultra-dense network is expected as an effective solution for meeting the low latency demand. However, the distributed computing resource in edge cloud and energy dynamics in the battery of mobile device make it challenging to offload tasks for users. In this paper, leveraging the idea of software defined network, we investigate the task offloading problem in ultra-dense network aiming to minimize the delay while saving the battery life of user’s equipment. Specifically, we formulate the task offloading problem as a mixed integer nonlinear program which is NP-hard. In order to solve it, we transform this optimization problem into two subproblems, i.e., task placement sub-problem and resource allocation sub-problem. Based on the solution of the two sub-problems, we propose an efficient offloading scheme. Simulation results prove that the proposed scheme can reduce 20% of the task duration with 30% energy saving, compared to random and uniform task offloading schemes.

While augment reality applications are becoming popular, more and more data-hungry and computation-intensive tasks are delay-sensitive. Mobile edge computing is expected to an effective solution to meet the low latency demand. In contrast to previous work on mobile edge computing, which mainly focus on computation offloading, this paper introduces a new concept of task caching. Task caching refers to the caching of completed task application and their related data in edge cloud. Then, we investigate the problem of joint optimization of task caching and offloading on edge cloud with the computing and storage resource constraint. We formulate this problem as mixed integer programming which is hard to solve. To solve the problem, we propose efficient algorithm, called task caching and offloading (TCO), based on alternating iterative algorithm. Finally, the simulation experimental results show that our proposed TCO algorithm outperforms others in terms of less energy cost.

Recent trends show that Internet traffic is increasingly dominated by content, which is accompanied by the exponential growth of traffic. To cope with this phenomena, network caching is introduced to utilize the storage capacity of diverse network devices. In this paper, we first summarize four basic caching placement strategies, i.e., local caching, Device-to-Device (D2D) caching, Small cell Base Station (SBS) caching and Macrocell Base Station (MBS) caching. However, studies show that so far, much of the research has ignored the impact of user mobility. Therefore, taking the effect of the user mobility into consideration, we proposes a joint mobility-aware caching and SBS density placement scheme (MS caching). In addition, differences and relationships between caching and computation offloading are discussed. We present a design of a hybrid computation offloading and support it with experimental results, which demonstrate improved performance in terms of energy cost. Finally, we discuss the design of an incentive mechanism by considering network dynamics, differentiated user’s quality of experience (QoE) and the heterogeneity of mobile terminals in terms of caching and computing capabilities.

Developments and new advances in medical technology and the improvement of people’s living standards have helped to make many people healthier. However, there are still large design deficiencies due to the imbalanced distribution of medical resources, especially in developing countries. To address this issue, a video conference-based telemedicine system is deployed to break the limitations of medical resources in terms of time and space. By outsourcing medical resources from big hospitals to rural and remote ones, centralized and high quality medical resources can be shared to achieve a higher salvage rate while improving the utilization of medical resources. Though effective, existing telemedicine systems only treat patients’ physiological diseases, leaving another challenging problem unsolved: How to remotely detect patients’ emotional state to diagnose psychological diseases. In this paper, we propose a novel healthcare system based on a 5G Cognitive System (5G-Csys). The 5G-Csys consists of a resource cognitive engine and a data cognitive engine. Resource cognitive intelligence, based on the learning of network contexts, aims at ultra-low latency and ultra-high reliability for cognitive applications. Data cognitive intelligence, based on the analysis of healthcare big data, is used to handle a patient’s health status physiologically and psychologically. In this paper, the architecture of 5G-Csys is first presented, and then the key technologies and application scenarios are discussed. To verify our proposal, we develop a prototype platform of 5G-Csys, incorporating speech emotion recognition. We present our experimental results to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system. We hope this paper will attract further research in the field of healthcare based on 5G cognitive systems.

As a foundation of large language models, fine-tuning drives rapid progress, broad applicability, and profound impacts on human–AI collaboration, surpassing earlier technological advancements. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of large language model (LLM) fine-tuning by integrating hermeneutic theories of human comprehension, with a focus on the essential cognitive conditions that underpin this process. Drawing on Gadamer’s concepts of Vorverständnis, Distanciation, and the Hermeneutic Circle, the paper explores how LLM fine-tuning evolves from initial learning to deeper comprehension, ultimately advancing toward self-awareness. It examines the core principles, development, and applications of fine-tuning techniques, emphasizing its growing significance across diverse field and industries. The paper introduces a new term, “Tutorial Fine-Tuning (TFT)”, which annotates a process of intensive tuition given by a “tutor” to a small number of “students”, to define the latest round of LLM fine-tuning advancements. By addressing key challenges associated with fine-tuning, including ensuring adaptability, precision, credibility and reliability, this paper explores potential future directions for the co-evolution of humans and AI. By bridging theoretical perspectives with practical implications, this work provides valuable insights into the ongoing development of LLMs, emphasizing their potential to achieve higher levels of cognitive and operational intelligence.

Future industrial cyber-physical system (CPS) devices are expected to request a large amount of delay-sensitive services that need to be processed at the edge of a network. Due to limited resources, service placement at the edge of the cloud has attracted significant attention. Although there are many methods of design schemes, the service placement problem in industrial CPS has not been well studied. Furthermore, none of existing schemes can optimize service placement, workload scheduling, and resource allocation under uncertain service demands. To address these issues, we first formulate a joint optimization problem of service placement, workload scheduling, and resource allocation in order to minimize service response delay. We then propose an improved deep Q-network (DQN)-based service placement algorithm. The proposed algorithm can achieve an optimal resource allocation by means of convex optimization where the service placement and workload scheduling decisions are assisted by means of DQN technology. The experimental results verify that the proposed algorithm, compared with existing algorithms, can reduce the average service response time by 8–10%.
