Botnet is one of the most dangerous cyber-security issues. The botnet infects unprotected machines and keeps track of the communication with the command and control server to send and receive malicious commands. The attacker uses botnet to initiate dangerous attacks such as DDoS, fishing, data stealing, and spamming. The size of the botnet is usually very large, and millions of infected hosts may belong to it. In this paper, we addressed the problem of botnet detection based on network’s flows records and activities in the host. Thus, we propose a general technique capable of detecting new botnets in early phase. Our technique is implemented in both sides: host side and network side. The botnet communication traffic we are interested in includes HTTP, P2P, IRC, and DNS using IP fluxing. HANABot algorithm is proposed to preprocess and extract features to distinguish the botnet behavior from the legitimate behavior. We evaluate our solution using a collection of real datasets (malicious and legitimate). Our experiment shows a high level of accuracy and a low false positive rate. Furthermore, a comparison between some existing approaches was given, focusing on specific features and performance. The proposed technique outperforms some of the presented approaches in terms of accurately detecting botnet flow records within Netflow traces.

Nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary field that will make our life simpler and safer and mitigate our impact on the surrounding environment. With the recent advancements and transformations in the available networking and communications paradigms, embedding Wireless Nano Sensor Networks (WNSN) with various objects, sensors, and devices would add a new network paradigm. This paradigm is known as the Internet of Nano Things (IoNT). Seamless interconnectivity among nanonetworks with the available communication networks and the Internet requires developing new network architectures and new communication paradigms while addressing the various technical challenges. Routing protocol is one of the most essential requirements in WNSN and IoNT due to the different nanoscale constraints. This routing protocol must accommodate nanoscale communication's characteristics while guaranteeing the data and information transmission. This study aims to give insight into WNSN and IoNT paradigms and present a comprehensive review of a large number of existing routing protocols adapted to nano communication's characteristics and features.

Emotion detection (ED) and sentiment analysis (SA) play a vital role in identifying an individual’s level of interest in any given field. Humans use facial expressions, voice pitch, gestures, and words to convey their emotions. Emotion detection and sentiment analysis in English and Chinese have received much attention in the last decade. Still, poor-resource languages such as Urdu have been mostly disregarded, which is the primary focus of this research. Roman Urdu should also be investigated like other languages because social media platforms are frequently used for communication. Roman Urdu faces a significant challenge in the absence of corpus for emotion detection and sentiment analysis because linguistic resources are vital for natural language processing. In this study, we create a corpus of 1021 sentences for emotion detection and 20,251 sentences for sentiment analysis, both obtained from various areas, and annotate it with the aid of human annotators from six and three classes, respectively. In order to train large-scale unlabeled data, the bag-of-word, term frequency-inverse document frequency, and Skip-gram models are employed, and the learned word vector is then fed into the CNN-LSTM model. In addition to our proposed approach, we also use other fundamental algorithms, including a convolutional neural network, long short-term memory, artificial neural networks, and recurrent neural networks for comparison. The result indicates that the CNN-LSTM proposed method paired with Word2Vec is more effective than other approaches regarding emotion detection and evaluating sentiment analysis in Roman Urdu. Furthermore, we compare our based model with some previous work. Both emotion detection and sentiment analysis have seen significant improvements, jumping from an accuracy of 85% to 95% and from 89% to 93.3%, respectively.

Along with the continuing evolution of the Internet and its applications, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) have become a hot topic with both opportunities and challenges. CDNs were mainly proposed to solve content availability and download time issues by delivering content through edge cache servers deployed around the world. In our previous work, we presented a novel CDN architecture based on a Fog computing environment as a promising solution for real-time applications. In such architecture, we proposed to use a name-based routing protocol following the Information Centric Networking (ICN) approach, with a popularity-based caching strategy to guarantee overall delivery performance. To validate our design principle, we have implemented the proposed Fog-based CDN architecture with its major protocol components and evaluated its performance, as shown through this article. On the one hand, we have extended the Optimized Link-State Routing (OLSR) protocol to be content aware (CA-OLSR), i.e., so that it uses content names as routing labels. Then, we have integrated CA-OLSR with the popularity-based caching strategy, which caches only the most popular content (MPC). On the other hand, we have considered two similar architectures for conducting performance comparative studies. The first is pure Fog-based CDN implemented by the original OLSR (IP-based routing) protocol along with the default caching strategy. The second is a classical cloud-based CDN implemented by the original OLSR. Through extensive simulation experiments, we have shown that our Fog-based CDN architecture outperforms the other compared architectures. CA-OLSR achieves the highest packet delivery ratio (PDR) and the lowest delay for all simulated numbers of connected users. Furthermore, the MPC caching strategy shows higher cache hit rates with fewer numbers of caching operations compared to the existing default caching strategy, which caches all the pass-by content.

Many cutting-edge technologies, such as MIMO, cognitive radio, multi-carrier modulation, and network coding, have been proposed for wireless communication to satisfy needs for a higher data rate in the upcoming time, leading to improved quality of service (QoS) regardless of the weather. Orthogonal and non-orthogonal multiple access techniques are two categories into which multiple access technologies can be subdivided. Large networking with effective implementation of wireless devices is supported by non-orthogonal multiple access techniques. Massive NOMA has been implemented to advance access efficiency by permitting several users to share a similar spectrum. Because of the robust co-channel interference between mobile users presented by NOMA, it offers important tasks for system model and resources management. In this study, two additional sets of demanding codes are explored. Multi-user shared access methods and expanded multi-user shared access (EMUSA) methods are both employed. In the MUSA technique, an algorithm is used for the allocation of resources to achieve minimum intercorrelation to the maximum extent in 5G networks. A novel idea proposed in this paper is to create complex codes starting from PN codes (i.e., ePN), thereby achieving promising results in the overall system performance. The first part of this paper describes the fundamental principles of MUSA, and in the next part the main idea of the proposed technique will be studied in detail. Using Monte-Carlo MATLAB simulation, the performance of the suggested approach is assessed in terms of BER vs. SNR. The efficiency of the proposed approach is evaluated in various settings, and the outcomes are contrasted with those of the traditional CDMA technique, using parameters, such as the number of active users and antennas at the receiver.

International audienceWireless sensor networks are usually randomly deployed in the monitored region. This initial deployment does neither achieve area coverage, nor ensure network connectivity. Thus, a redeployment algorithm has to be applied in order to meet these two requirements. In this paper, we overview existing centralized redeployment algorithms such as virtual forces or particle swarm optimization category, as well as distributed algorithms such as Distributed Self-Spreading Algorithm, Force based Genetic Algorithm, Mass-Spring Relaxation Algorithm, unified Scheme for Deployment and Relocation. We then discuss some open issues related to algorithm convergence, assumptions about the initial knowledge available like the initial topology, number of sensor nodes and obstacle positions
