In this article, the optimal sizing of hybrid solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems is evaluated with respect to rooftop space and feed-in tariff rates. The battery scheduling is performed using a proposed rule-based energy management strategy. The rules are formulated based on the demand limit, PV export power limit, and state of charge of the battery. Furthermore, optimization modeling with initial choices of parameters and constraints in terms of solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage capabilities is developed to minimize the total net present cost. The hourly values of solar irradiance, air temperature, electrical loads, and electricity rates are considered the inputs of the optimization process. The optimization results are achieved using particle swarm optimization and validated through an uncertainty analysis. It is observed that an optimal photovoltaic and battery energy storage system can reduce the cost of electricity by 12.33%, including the sale of 5944.029 kWh of electricity to the grid. Furthermore, energy consumption, peak demand, and greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by 13.71%, 5.85%, and 62.59%, respectively. A comprehensive analysis between the variable and fixed data for the load, energy from PV, batteries, and the grid, and costs demonstrates that the optimal sizing of photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems with the best mix of energy from PV, batteries, and the grid provides the optimal solution for the proposed configuration.

The 6G communication technologies are expected to provide fast data rates and incessant connectivity to heterogeneous networks, such as the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). However, the resulting unprecedented surge in data traffic, massive increase in the number of nodes with high mobility, and low-latency requirements give rise to serious security, privacy, and trust challenges. The blockchain could potentially ensure trust and security in IoV due to its features, including consensus for credibility and immutability for tamper proofing. In parallel, federated learning (FL) is a privacy-preserving artificial-intelligence paradigm that does not require to share data for model training in machine learning. It can reduce data traffic and resolve privacy challenges of intelligent IoV networks. The blockchain can also complement FL by ensuring the decentralization and securing distribution of incentives. This article reviews the trends and challenges of the blockchain and FL in 6G IoV networks. Then, the impact of their combination, challenges in implementation, and future research directions are highlighted. We also evaluate our proposal of blockchain-based FL to protect IoV security and privacy that utilizes smart contract and secure transactions of incentives via the blockchain to protect FL. Compared with other solutions, the failure rate of the proposed solution was at least 5% lower with 30% malicious nodes in the network.

Emotion detection (ED) and sentiment analysis (SA) play a vital role in identifying an individual’s level of interest in any given field. Humans use facial expressions, voice pitch, gestures, and words to convey their emotions. Emotion detection and sentiment analysis in English and Chinese have received much attention in the last decade. Still, poor-resource languages such as Urdu have been mostly disregarded, which is the primary focus of this research. Roman Urdu should also be investigated like other languages because social media platforms are frequently used for communication. Roman Urdu faces a significant challenge in the absence of corpus for emotion detection and sentiment analysis because linguistic resources are vital for natural language processing. In this study, we create a corpus of 1021 sentences for emotion detection and 20,251 sentences for sentiment analysis, both obtained from various areas, and annotate it with the aid of human annotators from six and three classes, respectively. In order to train large-scale unlabeled data, the bag-of-word, term frequency-inverse document frequency, and Skip-gram models are employed, and the learned word vector is then fed into the CNN-LSTM model. In addition to our proposed approach, we also use other fundamental algorithms, including a convolutional neural network, long short-term memory, artificial neural networks, and recurrent neural networks for comparison. The result indicates that the CNN-LSTM proposed method paired with Word2Vec is more effective than other approaches regarding emotion detection and evaluating sentiment analysis in Roman Urdu. Furthermore, we compare our based model with some previous work. Both emotion detection and sentiment analysis have seen significant improvements, jumping from an accuracy of 85% to 95% and from 89% to 93.3%, respectively.

This paper provides researchers many structures for mobile Ad hoc protocol that also could be implemented in VANET protocols. In the literature, there are numerous mobile Ad hoc network (MANET) routing protocols aiming to find the most suitable path from source to destination. Therefore these protocols should be categorized and classified. This classification helps in understanding, analyzing, comparing, and evaluating the routing protocols. Also, the classification can assist researchers and designers to differentiate the characteristics of the routing protocols and to find the relationships between them. The routing protocols cannot be included under one category or one classification, therefore, the known characteristics should be listed and the MANET routing protocols classified according to these attributes. In this paper, varies routing protocol classifications are presented that depend on design philosophy, on network structure, or on the routing protocol characteristic (packet casting and network routing metrics).

In this paper, cooperative simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) terahertz (THz) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) are considered. The aim is to improve wireless connectivity, resource management, scalability, and user fairness, as well as to enhance the overall performance of wireless communications and reliability. We optimized the current wireless communication systems by utilizing MIMO-NOMA technology and THz frequencies, exploring the performance and gains obtained. Hence, we developed a path-selection mechanism for the far user to enhance the system performance. The EH SWIPT approach used to improve THz communications performance was investigated. Moreover, we proposed a reliable transmission mechanism with a non-LoS (NLoS) line of THz communications for open areas or any location where the intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) cannot be deployed, in addition to using the cheap decode-forward (DF) relaying instead of IRS. The performance and scalability of the upgradeable system were examined, using adjustable parameters and the simplest modulation scheme. The system presents a noticeable improvement in energy efficiency (EE) and spectral efficiency (SE), in addition to reliability. Accordingly, the outcome showed an improvement in the overall reliability, SE, EE, and outage probability as compared to the conventional cooperative networks of the recent related work (e.g., cooperative MIMO-NOMA with THz) by multiple times with a simpler design, whereas it outperformed our previous work, i.e., cooperative SWIPT SISO-NOMA with THz, by more than 50%, with a doubled individual user gain. This system reduces the transceiver hardware and improves reliability with increasing transmission rates.

This survey uncovers the tension between AI techniques designed for energy saving in mobile networks and the energy demands those same techniques create. We compare modeling approaches that estimate power usage cost of current commercial terrestrial next-generation radio access network deployments. We then categorize emerging methods for reducing power usage by domain: time, frequency, power, and spatial. Next, we conduct a timely review of studies that attempt to estimate the power usage of the AI techniques themselves. We identify several gaps in the literature. Notably, real-world data for the power consumption is difficult to source due to commercial sensitivity. Comparing methods to reduce energy consumption is beyond challenging because of the diversity of system models and metrics. Crucially, the energy cost of AI techniques is often overlooked, though some studies provide estimates of algorithmic complexity or run-time. We find that extracting even rough estimates of the operational energy cost of AI models and data processing pipelines is complex. Overall, we find the current literature hinders a meaningful comparison between the energy savings from AI techniques and their associated energy costs. Finally, we discuss future research opportunities to uncover the utility of AI for energy saving.
