Jute fiber-reinforced composites have become a promising alternative to synthetic fiber composites because of their favorable environmental characteristics, cost efficiency, and good mechanical properties. The present review provides a comprehensive examination of the manufacturing processes and mechanical properties of polymer composites reinforced with jute fibers. This study investigates the influence of several fabrication methods, such as hand lay-up, compression molding, injection molding, pultrusion, etc., on the mechanical properties of the composites. It also provides SWOT analyses of various manufacturing processes of jute fiber-reinforced composites. Important aspects, including fiber orientation, fiber/matrix adhesion, and the effects of different surface treatments on improving mechanical characteristics, such as tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact resistance, are discussed. The difficulties associated with moisture absorption, degradation, and the lack of uniformity in jute fibers, as well as approaches to alleviate these problems, are presented. The goal of this study is to establish a basis for future investigation and advancement in enhancing the mechanical properties of jute fiber-reinforced composites.

Polymer composites have opened a novel innovation phase in additive manufacturing (AM), and now lightweight, high-strength, and geometrical advanced components with tailored functionalities can be produced. The present study introduces advances in polymer composite materials and their integration into AM processes, particularly in rapidly growing industries such as aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and electronics. The embedding of cutting-edge reinforcement materials, such as nanoparticles, carbon fibers, and natural fibers, into polymer matrices enhances mechanical, thermal, electrical, and multifunctional properties. These material developments are combined with advanced fabrication techniques, including multi-material printing, in situ curing, and functionally graded manufacturing, which achieves accurate regulation of microstructures and properties. Furthermore, high-impact innovations such as smart polymer composites with self-healing or stimuli-responsive behaviors, the growing shift toward sustainable, bio-based composite alternatives, are driving progress. Despite significant advances, challenges remain in interfacial bonding, printability, process repeatability, and long-term durability. This review offers a comprehensive overview of current advancements and outlines future directions in polymer composite–based AM.

Jute fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites are highly desirable because they can offer sustainable alternatives to traditional materials. Researchers have been trying to improve the overall characteristics of these composites in different ways, alkali treatment is one of them. In this study, the effect of NaOH treatment on the mechanical characteristics of randomly distributed non-woven jute fiber reinforced epoxy composites is investigated. The effects of various NaOH concentrations (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%) on mechanical properties are investigated by experimentation. The composites were fabricated using hand layup followed by the compression molding method. The treatment of fibers using 5% NaOH solution showed a significant improvement in tensile strength, flexural strength, tensile modulus, flexural modulus, and energy absorption while maintaining a tolerable elongation at break. The treatment of fibers using higher NaOH concentration caused a decrease in tensile and flexural properties due to possible fiber damage during treatment. Fiber treatment using NaOH is found to be effective for the enhancement of mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced composites but care should be taken to optimize the concentration of NaOH used for fiber treatment.

Bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) are a type of amorphous metal with a high degree of mechanical strength, elasticity and corrosion resistance, properties that are highly influenced by composition and the processing of the material. BMGs can be applied in advanced engineering fields, such as aerospace, biomedical, MEMS, and industrial applications. Additive manufacturing (AM) is revolutionary in producing intricate BMG parts whilst maintaining the amorphous structure. The current review critically evaluates the recent development in AM of BMGs, such as the development of selective laser melting, electron beam melting, and directed energy deposition, and new classes of hybrid strategies. Enhancements in dimensional accuracy, amorphous retention, microstructural tailoring and functional performance are emphasized along with computational and real-time process optimization strategies to improve overall manufacturing efficiency and material quality. Subsequently, the challenges that still exist are addressed in the review, including crystallization during printing, the buildup of stress, printable thickness, complicated geometries, oxidation, contamination, and heterogeneous amorphous fractions. Lastly, multi-material printing, scalable AM approaches, and AI-assisted design solutions are key features of future perspectives to solve existing restrictions. The review provides an excellent guidance for the researcher and engineer interested in advancing additive manufacturing of BMGs with the best structure–property relations.
