As an economic, social, and cultural activity, tourism shapes the relationship between visitors and local communities in tourist destinations. While tourism generates economic growth and employment opportunities for residents, its benefits come with a social cost. This article highlights the results of an online survey that was carried out at the beginning of 2021 in the seven major Galician cities along the Route of Santiago de Compostela (the Way of St. James) in Spain, which is a historical, natural, and cultural tourist attraction that is inscribed in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List in the category of cultural assets. The goal of the research work was to get to know first-hand the opinion of local communities about the positive and negative effects of tourism in their cities, on the Route of Santiago, and in the region of Galicia as a whole. Research work shows that residents’ perception of tourism leans toward the positive side, although it also reveals the need for tourism planners to involve host communities in tourism development. This research study about a World Heritage site should prove useful for political decision makers, tourism planners, and experts, both in Galicia and elsewhere.

Heterogeneity studies have analyzed different clusters of residents according to their perception and attitude toward tourism in general or a specific type of tourism, but there are still no studies on the heterogeneity in the acceptance of tourist offers. The aim of this article was to segment residents according to their acceptance of different tourist offers focused on the territory. This is a new approach that seeks to determine the profiles of residents based on their preferences for the future development of a destination’s offer in order to solve land-related problems. Cluster analysis carried out by the K-means algorithm made it possible to create five clusters: Disappointed, favorable with nuances, moderate, enthusiasts but anti-nightclub, and enthusiasts. The clusters were characterized by the rejection of the “all inclusive” offer and by the acceptance of most offers. The types of tourism that involve an enhancement of the landscape and heritage were shown to be the best valued. The differences between the clusters were marked by the degree of general acceptance and by the rejection of some offers considered “conflicting.” The offers that imply a high consumption of land (golf courses) or annoyances from the immediate surroundings (nightclubs) generated discrepancies.

To compare both concepts, the causative variables of recommendations generation will be analysed in one of the most important economic activities, the tourism sector. Tourism literature recognizes the importance of emotions, satisfaction and post-purchase behaviour, and diverse studies show emotions as antecedent of satisfaction and behavioural intentions. Some studies have found a positive relationship between satisfaction and the intention to recommend, but other authors raise doubts about the existence of this relationship.

Trained human capital is a source of incalculable resources, with an impact on the results of companies. For this reason, companies must carefully consider three aspects: empowerment with the consideration of the cognitive state of their collaborators; training and compensation; and fluidity in information sharing. Although granting empowerment to collaborators has been shown to be beneficial for organizations, its adoption has not been popularized. Therefore, it remains a construct that needs to be studied and understood, considering that it is influenced by the organizational culture of companies. In this research, the main objective was to examine the factor structure of the empowerment scale from the perspective of the owner or manager of the micro, small and medium-sized companies of Guanajuato, Mexico; using the dimensions of psychological empowerment; fluidity in information sharing; as well as training and compensation. The methodology is based on the Mathematical Economy; application of mathematical methods to represent theories and analyze problems in economics. This investigation used an exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to validate the proposed measurement scale. The sample is made up of 222 valid questionnaires. The CFA provided evidence that the model that best fits the data is a second-order model made up of two dimensions: self-efficacy and influence on the company’s results, which carry the psychological empowerment construct. These results make clear that although information is necessary to train human capital, cognitive variables are more important in the empowerment of human capital.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the importance of exceeding the expectations of guests to generate greater satisfaction, in order to offer an unforgettable experience and generate more comments on the Web 2.0 in the context of tourism. Structural equation models were used. The data for the analysis were obtained from a sample of residents of the Maldonado-Punta del Este conurbation (Uruguay), who were asked about their last overnight stay. The proposed structural equation model was tested using the partial least square (PLS) technique. The results show that exceeding the expectations of guests is essential for the clients’ experience and very important for the satisfaction with the stay at the hotel. The generation of online comments (electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM)) is also strongly influenced by emotional experiences. Exceeding the expectations of trained clients and surprising them with new services and experiences is the essence of luxury offers. The main practical implication is that exceeding expectations is the key to eWOM, and this means that managers must be involved in a perpetual process of service innovation.

The objective of this article is to determine the importance of environmental concern on residents’ perceptions and attitudes in the case of the Maldonado-Punta del Este conurbation. To relativize the importance of this concern, economic concern was introduced into the model. Punta del Este is located next to the city of Maldonado, capital of the homonymous department, and is the most important sun and beach destination in Uruguay. For this analysis, a sample of 420 residents from the Maldonado-Punta del Este conurbation was used. The questionnaire contained several items using a5-point Likert scale and a section including socio-demographic questions. Analysis of the data was carried out through Partial Least Squares (PLS) SEM regression. The results suggest that residents form their attitudes towards tourism based on tourism’s economic benefits and socio-cultural costs. Residents of Punta del Este show concern for the environment but not for the economy. This concern is mainly related to the perception of environmental costs, but the causal relationship could be the opposite.

To be able to meet the needs of students and society in general, universities have changed their substantive activity by modifying the way they educate therefore significantly changing their mission (Başçı and Alkan, Procedia—Social and Behavioral Sciences 195:856–861, 2015; Munuera and Gómez, Opción 8:329–348, 2016) and making innovations in education (Olokundun, Ibidunni, Falola, Salau, and Oyafunke-Omoniyi International Journal of Entrepreneurship 22(1), 1–10, 2018). As Martin (El papel de las universidades en la comunidad de emprendimiento, 2017) points out, universities are looking for the generation of entrepreneurs which in turn creates the tendency of universities to include entrepreneurship in the professional training of their students (Din, Anuar, and Usman, Procedia—Social and Behavioral Sciences 224, 117–123, 2016; Palomares and Chisvert, REDU Revista de Docencia Universitaria 12(2), 205–230, 2014). Through the development of these activities, it is possible to offer opportunities to university students to overcome some of the inequalities that occur in the country (Mexico). The objective of this study is to establish a reference model on the influence of the following variables: self-esteem, need for achievement, risk assumption, and creativity in the innovation traits of future entrepreneur engineering students in the Public Institutions of Higher Education in Mexico. In order to respond to the objective posed in this investigation, a questionnaire consisting of two sections using a sample of 368 engineering students from the Public Institutions of Higher Education (IES) in Mexico between the ages of 18 and 34 years was designed. The first section includes the student profile. The variables which influence the innovation traits of future engineering entrepreneurs from the IES in Mexico can be seen in the second section: self-esteem (four items), need for achievement (four items), and risk assumption (eight items)—Íbañez (Actitudes emprendedoras de los estudiantes universitarios de la CAPV, Universidad de Deusto, Bilbao, 2001), creativity (eight items), and the dependent variable: innovation traits (eight items)—Capella, Gil, Martí, and Ruíz (Pedagogía Social 28, 169–188, 2016). This research follows a quantitative approach by means of a descriptive, correlational, and linear regression analysis, creating a proposal called the RIEMPEI model (features of enterprising innovation in engineering students in the IES in Mexico). The statistical analysis shows that the RIEMPEI model meets the requirements of all the tests to which it is submitted, making it an appropriate model to evaluate the objective posed in this investigation.

The objective of this research work is to know, through a bibliometric and bibliographic analysis, the research that on Creative Tourism, in small cities and/or rural areas, has been carried out until now. The work methodology is developed through a descriptive-quantitative bibliometric analysis, applying different bibliometric indicators, providing information on the evolution of the research, identifying the researchers or groups working on this subject, the disciplines from which it is studied and the means, through which the results are disseminated. In addition, a bibliographic analysis of the content of the identified studies is carried out, to know the results achieved as well as the methodology used in the investigations. The bibliographic material to be analyzed is obtained using a methodology of tracking in the international databases Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus. The results, collected in a database, are made up of a small number of investigations, focused mostly on the study of relevant cases of success due to the effects of diversification of the economy, or the development of capacities that have enabled to create a different tourist potential and with identity to attract tourists in these areas.

The study of residents' attitudes is fundamental for tourist destinations managers. Residents form their attitude towards tourism through a cost-benefit analysis based on their perception of tourism impacts. The objective of this paper is to analyse the relationship between the perception of the different types of impacts, the general attitude toward tourism and various types of tourism offer: sport tourism, maritime tourism, nature tourism and sun and beach tourism. The analysis of the data was performed using Partial Least Squares on a sample of 420 residents of the Maldonado-Punta del Este conurbation, interviewed in 2016. The strongest causal relationship is between general attitude and acceptance of sun and beach tourism, the traditional offer in the region. The main conclusion is that a more favourable attitude to tourism does not imply greater support for any type of tourism. It is not possible to generalize the support to tourism to any tourism project, and tourist destinations managers must take it into account.

The information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have changed how the professors in the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) conduct their activities that benefits their work and personal routines. Nevertheless, the lack of proper ICT tools needed to its implementation (Lack of Work Techno-resources-LWTR) causes stress disturbances, affecting the professor’s health. This research focuses in determine if the LWTR is defined by psychosocial factors as Techno-anxiety and Inefficiency. Also to understand if those factors contribute to the level of technostress in professors of the HEI in the Laja-Bajio region of Guanajuato, Mexico. The analysis includes a sample of 415 professors, and a descriptive, correlational and regression analysis. Results points that professors consider ICT as a factor to increase their self-efficiency, their work in teams and their autonomy, having enough technological equipment to accomplish their work activities. Results also showed that the Techno- anxiety is the factor that mostly influences in the Technostress. Besides, the multiple regression analysis determines the Lack of Work Techno-resources in the professors. In conclusion, this paper contributes to the knowledge of which factors, caused by the ICT, contributes to stress in higher education professors.

This chapter presents a study of religious tourism that analyzes accessibility in two cathedrals with a great number of tourist visits. The comparison is made from universal accessibility, although specifically the motor one, sensory one, and technological access of information in both resources. The geographical area of the study has been in Spain in the Cathedral of Barcelona located in the peninsula and in the Cathedral of Palma of Majorca located in an archipelago. The longitudinal study carried out shows the comparison of the information collected in the year 2014 and July 2017. In general, the results show that throughout these years, while the Cathedral of Palma of Majorca has adapted the tourist resource to tourists with disabilities, the Cathedral of Barcelona has been evolving, although there are still measures and adaptations pending to run to approach an accessible tourism.
