In principle, biodiesel production relies on the transesterification reaction of fatty acids contained in vegetable oil or waste rich in fatty acids with short-chain alcohols with the help of a catalyst. The purpose of this study was to obtain information about the most suitable alcohol for the transesterification of rubber seed oil into biodiesel. In this study, the transesterification of rubber seed oil was carried out with three different types of short-chain alcohols, namely methanol, ethanol, and 2-propanol. Each alcohol was used with a ratio of 3:1 to oil and transesterification was carried out in the presence of MgO/SiO2 catalyst with an amount of 10% (by weight of catalyst/volume oil) at 70 °C for 6 h. Transesterification products were analyzed using Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis to confirm the conversion of fatty acids in the oil into esters. The results showed that the reactivity of alcohols is in the order of methanol > ethanol > 2-propanol with the percentages of conversion of oil to products are 90.1, 73.3, and 63.2%, respectively. These results indicate that methanol is the most suitable alcohol for transesterification of rubber seed oil.

In this study, a facile and green synthesis approach of Zn2SnO4 was conducted by using Impatiens balsamina L. aqueous leaf extract through the hydrothermal method. The results show that Zn2SnO4 was successfully produced with a specific characteristic which is strongly influenced by the presence of extract. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern showed an enhancement of crystallinity along with the increase of extract quantity. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis confirmed the formation of irregular, spherical, and octahedral shaped of Zn2SnO4 particles, based on extract concentration used. The optical bandgap values of the obtained Zn2SnO4 were different based on morphology. This is because the synthesized microstructure showed good photocatalytic activity in the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under UV irradiation. These results confirm that I. balsamina is a promising material for mediating the synthesis of Zn2SnO4, the properties of which can be controlled by adjusting the concentration of the leaf extract.

A well-distributed nano-silver hydroxyapatite composite has been successfully prepared by a one-pot synthesis method. Hydroxyapatite was separately synthesized by a sol-gel method, then impregnated with silver nanoparticles with the mediation of Uncaria gambir Roxb. leaf extract in the presence of three kinds of alkanolamine compound; monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), and triethanolamine (TEA) as capping agents. The effect of different capping agents on the properties of the silver nanoparticles and the nano-silver hydroxyapatite composite were studied. UV–visible spectrophotometer analysis exhibited absorbance peaks at 402–439 nm which specifically corresponds to spherical silver nanoparticles. Higher optical absorbance was observed in TEA-capped silver nanoparticles, than in DEA and MEA-capped ones. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed a highly crystalline hexagonal structure for hydroxyapatite and no detected metallic silver. However, the presence of 1.65% silver was confirmed by energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) spectroscopy analysis. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis revealed spherical silver nanoparticles with a size range of 2–62 nm (smallest mean diameter of 2 nm) adhered to the hydroxyapatite surface. The TEA capped impregnated silver nanoparticles were the smallest, corresponding to the best capping performance, followed by those capped by DEA and MEA. Small-sized nanoparticles on hydroxyapatite are beneficial for highly antibacterial bone implants.

Cellulose fiber was isolated from bengkoang (Pachyrhizus erosus) tuber peel. A suspension consisting of distilled water, starch, and glycerol was mixed with various cellulose loadings (0, 2, 6, and 10 g) then gelatinized using a hot plate with a magnetic stirrer. The biocomposite gel was sonicated using an ultrasonication probe (47.78 W/cm2 for 4 min). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs for the fracture surface of resulting biocomposite films displayed a rougher surface than starch film, indicating fiber dispersion in the matrix. The opacity and moisture resistance of biocomposite films increased with the addition of cellulose. The opacity was at a maximum value (243.05 AUnm) with 10 g fiber, which was 11.27% higher than the starch film without cellulose. Moisture absorption of this biocomposite was 16.79% lower than the starch film. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) confirmed this more hydrophobic nature with lower transmittance at –OH stretching in the composite than the starch film. The addition of cellulose fiber into the matrix also increased the crystallinity index.

In this study, the isolation and characterization of nanocellulose from pineapple leaf fibers (PLF) were carried out. Chemical pretreatment included pulping, bleaching, and acid hydrolysis to remove lignin, hemicellulose, and extractive substances were conducted. This was followed by high-shear homogenization and ultrasonication to produce nanocellulose. Morphological changes to the PLF due to treatment were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This showed that the PLF had a diameter of 1–10 µm after high-shear homogenizing. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated that the nanofibers after ultrasonication for 60 min showed 40–70 nm diameters. Particle size analysis (PSA) indicates that the fibers had an average diameter of 68 nm. Crystallinity index was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and had the highest value after acid hydrolysis at 83% but after 60 min ultrasonication, this decreased to 62%. Meanwhile, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy showed there was no chemical structure change after acid hydrolysis. The most significant finding from thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) is that the higher degradation temperature of nanofibers indicates superior thermal stability over untreated fiber. These results indicate that PLF waste could become a viable source of commercially valuable nanocellulose.

Studies of silver nanoparticles preparation has been developed increasingly due to the wide application in various areas and field, such as medicine, energy, catalysis, and electronic. An environmental-friendly method is needed to fabricate biocompatible silver nanoparticles without producing hazardous materials to the environment. In this study, we synthesized silver nanoparticles by green synthesis method, using leaf extract of gambir (Uncaria gambir Roxb.) as bioreducing agent and aqueous diethanolamine (DEA) solution as capping agents. The AgNO3/DEA molar ratio was varied to investigate the effect of DEA concentration to the properties of silver nanoparticles. The formation of silver nanoparticles was indicated by colour changes to yellowish brown and confirmed by result of UV-Vis spectrophotometer analysis which shown absorption band at 400 to 410 nm. The absorbance was increased to the reaction time of 24 hours, and was decrease by the increasing of DEA concentration in reaction. TEM analysis showed that prepared silver nanoparticles were spherical in shape with diameter of 3,5 - 45,5 nm. The diameter of DEA capped silver nanoparticles was 13 nm, smaller than uncapped silver nanoparticles which was 26 nm It exhibited good stability to time reaction of one month which was potential to be developed in some fields.

The measurement of phase resolved partial discharge requires a gigantic memory capacity to store all the waves of the PD test results. This limitation eventually hinders the testing. It is necessary to optimize on the aspect of memory storage capability to reduce the storage requirements. In light of foregoing, the partial discharge data retrieval techniques with sampling rate methods were used to detect the peak of partial discharge as well as the PD constituent representatives. The optimization process was performed by using integration of oscilloscope and LabVIEW software. The partial discharge data recording can be easily confined to the points of the partial discharge occurrence only. As results, the storage points were reduced by taking wave magnitude associated with PD, thereby resulting in more representative data. Therefore, this optimized method was able to reduce the file size of the test results up to 97 percent of PD original size thereby decreasing the usage of hard disk storage.

Interdiffusion mechanism of catechin, catechutannic acid and quercetin are studied by using DFT-B method. But before conducting these experiment, we perform molecular dynamic simulations to find adsorption models probability of each compound. Two models adsorption of quarcetin, four models for catechin and three models for catechutannic acid have been obtained from molecular dynamic simulations. Quantum parameter of each compound, energy and properties adsorption models have been calculated and discussed. The theoretical results were found to be consistent with the experimental data reported. Futhermore, optimization adsorption model samples show that all of adsorbents have weak bonds on the surface of silver nanoparticles. The mechanism can be classified as strong physisorption, so that catechin, catechutannic acid and quercetin can be categorized as good capping agent in synthesis of silver nanoparticles.
