The tennis serve is closely related to the quality of the tennis match. However, the isokinetic parameters associated with the tennis serve are still unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between ball velocity and isokinetic shoulder strength in tennis serve and to determine isokinetic strength parameters that can predict tennis serve velocity. A total of 13 elite male athletes (16.8 ± 1.5 years) voluntarily participated in the study. The athletes' shoulder internal-external rotation, extension-flexion and abduction-adduction strengths were measured with 5-5-15 repetitions at 60°/s, 180°/s, 240°/s angular velocities. Later, the athletes' 1st, 2nd, and average serve ball speeds were determined using a handheld radar gun. Significant correlations were found between ball speed and isokinetic tennis serve strength (r = 0.556-0.819; p < 0.05). The correlations between ball speed and isokinetic strength performance were higher at 180°/s and 240°/s angular velocities. Extension (240°/s; r = 0.819), flexion (180°/s; r = 0.755), abduction (240°/s; r = 0.733), adduction (240°/s; r = 0.684) and internal rotation (180°/s; r = 0.803) were highly correlated with ball velocity. These findings suggest that strength training to increase the ball speed of the tennis serve should be performed fast at high angular velocities and planning should focus on the strength of extension, flexion, abduction, adduction and internal rotation.

Background/Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the acute effects of the FIFA 11+ and Harmoknee warm-up protocols in female football players on flexibility, vertical jump, and shooting speed performance. Methods: This study involved 17 female football players who volunteered to participate, had no history of medical conditions, maintained regular menstrual cycles (28 ± 2 days, range: 26–33 days) in the three months preceding the study, and consistently engaged in football training. The Harmoknee and FIFA 11+ neuromuscular warm-up protocols were applied to the study group on different days, 48 h apart. After the exercises, athletes were tested for flexibility, vertical jump, and shooting speed. Two trials were allowed for each test, with a 3 min break between trials. The Shapiro–Wilk test was used to check for normality, and an independent sample t-test was used to compare groups. The p-value was set at <0.05 to determine statistical significance. Results: When comparing warm-up protocols, it was established that the FIFA 11+ neuromuscular warm-up protocol positively affects athletes’ vertical jump performance compared to other protocols (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the FIFA 11+ warm-up protocol resulted in better vertical jump performance in female soccer players compared to the Harmoknee warm-up routine. The FIFA 11+ protocol activates leg muscles, and balance exercises improve the neuromuscular characteristics of the warm-up compared to the Harmoknee protocol.

Serve velocity is a key performance determinant in tennis and relies on effective kinetic-kinematic energy transfer initiated by the lower limbs. While previous research has predominantly emphasized upper-extremity contributions, the neuromuscular characteristics of the lower limbs, particularly during the loading phase of the serve, remain insufficiently examined. Seventeen elite junior male tennis players participated in this study. Serve velocity was measured using a radar gun, while lower-limb neuromuscular performance was assessed via isokinetic knee and hip flexion–extension torque testing at angular velocities of 60°, 180°, and 240°·s⁻¹. Countermovement jump (CMJ) height was evaluated as a functional indicator of rapid force production capacity. Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to identify predictors of serve performance. Serve velocity was significantly associated with isokinetic torque outputs of the knee and hip joints across multiple angular velocities, as well as with CMJ height (p < 0.05). Greater knee flexion-extension and hip flexion-extension torque capacities were consistently related to higher serve velocities, and CMJ performance demonstrated a strong positive association with serve velocity. In the regression model, knee flexion peak torque of the dominant limb at 240°·s⁻¹ emerged as the only significant predictor of serve velocity, explaining a substantial proportion of its variance (R² = 0.797, p < 0.001). These findings indicate that serve velocity is closely associated with lower-extremity force production characteristics and highlight the importance of high-velocity knee flexor torque in explaining performance differences in elite junior tennis players.
