Improper monitoring of sewage networks may raise various issues such as overflows, pipe blockages, theft of manhole covers, leading to flooding and pollution, infrastructure damage, vehicles accidents, injury, and even death from falling into open manholes. The key objective of this research was to examine different elements and create a prototype architecture for a real-time sewer monitoring system. Implementation of the architecture involved constructing a data gathering station and experimenting with various wireless sensing devices to assess the precision of the sensors. In addition, the study sought to design a geographic information system that integrates algorithms capable of identifying sewer overflow, blocked pipes, and the presence of manhole covers. The performance of Sharp GP2Y0A41SK0F infrared, TF-Luna Benewake LiDar, TOF400 VL53L1X laser, JSN-SR04T ultrasonic distance sensors was tested in terms of their ability to monitor water level and manhole cover. Tests revealed the most favorable results in TOF400 VL53L1X at distances between 0.2 and 1.0 m (presumed distance to the manhole cover) with a standard deviation of 0.13–0.24, and in TF-Luna Benewake at distances between 1.0 and 5.0 m (presumed distance to the chamber bottom) with a standard deviation of 0.44–1.15. The deviation analysis has yielded equations that can be utilized to provide rough estimates of the accuracy levels of the aforementioned sensors, based on the measured distance. Additionally, the FC-28 analog and YL-63 infrared sensors were evaluated for detecting pipe blockages, with the YL-63 being more suitable. The outcomes of this study furnish valuable insights that can aid in achieving sustainable resolutions for issues related to sewer monitoring

To support bearing capacity estimates, this study develops and tests a geoprocessing workflow for predicting soil properties using Empirical Bayesian Kriging 3D and a classification function. The model covers a 183 m × 185 m × 24 m site in Astana (Kazakhstan), based on 16 boreholes (15–24 m deep) and 77 samples. Eight geotechnical properties were mapped in 3D voxel models (812,520 voxels at 1 m × 1 m × 1 m resolution): cohesion (c), friction angle (φ), deformation modulus (E), plasticity index (PI), liquidity index (LI), porosity (e), particle size (PS), and particle size distribution (PSD). Stratification patterns were revealed with ~35% variability. Maximum φ (34.9°), E (36.6 MPa), and PS (1.29 mm) occurred at 8–16 m; c (33.1 kPa) and PSD peaked below 16 m, while PI and e were elevated in the upper and lower strata. Strong correlations emerged in pairs φ-E-PS (0.91) and PI-e (0.95). Classification identified 10 soil types, including one absent in borehole data, indicating the workflow’s capacity to detect hidden lithologies. Predicted fractions of loams (51.99%), sandy loams (22.24%), and sands (25.77%) matched borehole data (52%, 26%, 22%). Adjacency analysis of 2,394,873 voxel pairs showed homogeneous zones in gravel–sandy soils (28%) and stiff loams (21.75%). The workflow accounts for lateral and vertical heterogeneity, reduces subjectivity, and is recommended for digital subsurface 3D mapping and construction design optimization.

This study presents the results of a critical analysis of the existing methods of selecting the values of ground deformation modulus used in calculating the settlement of designed foundations. The importance of improving the reliability of the determination of the modulus of deformation for ensuring the reliability, economic efficiency and safety of structures is highlighted. It is revealed that the determination of the deformation modulus is not performed at the full depth of soil samples, which can lead to the risk of accidents at facilities. To increase the reliability of deformation modulus determination, a method of interpolation of values based on data from nearby wells is proposed. A new model for determining intermediate values of the deformation modulus is presented, which can be used in calculating the settlement of designed buildings. The results of test problems confirm the high efficiency of the proposed method not only for the calculation of foundation settlement using the values of ground deformation modulus, but also for the control determination of refined values of ground deformation modulus at the stage of geotechnical engineering surveys.

The article considers the application of geotechnical interpolation using ArcGIS software to determine the intermediate geotechnical properties of soils at a construction site in a residential complex in Astana, Esil district. The study is based on data from 8 boreholes drilled to a depth of 26 meters, and the purpose of the work is to use the kriging interpolation method to determine intermediate soil properties. The raw data include the results of analyzing the physical and mechanical properties of the soils from the boreholes, which served as a basis for interpolation and mapping. The results of the study are presented in the form of maps showing the intermediate mechanical properties of the soil at depths of 5, 10 and 15 m. The maps allow obtaining more accurate intermediate values. The proposed methodology not only facilitates the work of designers, but also provides data for realistic scenarios of soil strength and deformation characteristics, which significantly influences the selection of optimal types and sizes of foundations.

The present study compares the behavior of different sound types and their sources concerning distance. Experimental findings demonstrate a consistent reduction in noise levels with increasing distance from the sound origin, aligning with anticipated sound propagation patterns. Median noise level reductions are quantified, showing decreases from 72.7 dB at the source to 54.8 dB at a distance of 3 m. Pulsed sounds exhibit pronounced fluctuations and peaks at close distances, while steady and blended sounds maintain more uniform levels. An exponential model accurately characterizes the noise reduction phenomenon (R² = 0.8664), underscoring its applicability for construction noise control. These results offer valuable insights into sound propagation dynamics and provide a basis for developing effective noise control strategies.

This study compares Kriging and Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) spatial interpolation methods for estimating intermediate soil properties at a construction site in Astana, Kazakhstan. Using data from eight boreholes, seven engineering geological elements (EGE) were identified and analyzed at 6.5 m and 11.5 m depths. Kriging produced deformation modulus values ranging from -0.29 to 18.99 MPa at 6.5 m and -0.51 to 23.94 MPa at 11.5 m, capturing more spatial variability compared to IDW, which provided ranges of 3.3 to 18.99 MPa and 2.6 to 23.99 MPa, respectively. Kriging’s ability to account for spatial correlations resulted in more accurate predictions, particularly in areas with complex subsurface variability. Meanwhile, IDW offered reliable localized results, effective in more uniform geological conditions. The findings demonstrate that both methods are valuable for geotechnical applications, with the choice depending on data density and site variability.
