Accurate detection and classification of breast cancer is a critical task in medical imaging due to the complexity of breast tissues. Due to automatic feature extraction ability, deep learning methods have been successfully applied in different areas, especially in the field of medical imaging. In this study, a novel patch-based deep learning method called Pa-DBN-BC is proposed to detect and classify breast cancer on histopathology images using the Deep Belief Network (DBN). Features are extracted through an unsupervised pre-training and supervised fine-tuning phase. The network automatically extracts features from image patches. Logistic regression is used to classify the patches from histopathology images. The features extracted from the patches are fed to the model as input and the model presents the result as a probability matrix as either a positive sample (cancer) or a negative sample (background). The proposed model is trained and tested on the whole slide histopathology image dataset having images from four different data cohorts and achieved an accuracy of 86%. Consequently, the proposed method is better than the traditional ones, as it automatically learns the best possible features and experimental results show that the model outperformed the previously proposed deep learning methods.

CT vertebral segmentation plays an essential role in various clinical applications, such as computer‐assisted surgical interventions, assessment of spinal abnormalities, and vertebral compression fractures. Automatic CT vertebral segmentation is challenging due to the overlapping shadows of thoracoabdominal structures such as the lungs, bony structures such as the ribs, and other issues such as ambiguous object borders, complicated spine architecture, patient variability, and fluctuations in image contrast. Deep learning is an emerging technique for disease diagnosis in the medical field. This study proposes a patch‐based deep learning approach to extract the discriminative features from unlabeled data using a stacked sparse autoencoder (SSAE). 2D slices from a CT volume are divided into overlapping patches fed into the model for training. A random under sampling (RUS)‐module is applied to balance the training data by selecting a subset of the majority class. SSAE uses pixel intensities alone to learn high‐level features to recognize distinctive features from image patches. Each image is subjected to a sliding window operation to express image patches using autoencoder high‐level features, which are then fed into a sigmoid layer to classify whether each patch is a vertebra or not. We validate our approach on three diverse publicly available datasets: VerSe, CSI‐Seg, and the Lumbar CT dataset. Our proposed method outperformed other models after configuration optimization by achieving 89.9% in precision, 90.2% in recall, 98.9% in accuracy, 90.4% in F‐score, 82.6% in intersection over union (IoU), and 90.2% in Dice coefficient (DC). The results of this study demonstrate that our model’s performance consistency using a variety of validation strategies is flexible, fast, and generalizable, making it suited for clinical application.

Liver segmentation and recognition from computed tomography (CT) images is a warm topic in image processing which is helpful for doctors and practitioners. Currently, many deep learning methods are used for liver segmentation that takes a long time to train the model which makes this task challenging and limited to larger hardware resources. In this research, we proposed a very lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) to extract the liver region from CT scan images. The suggested CNN algorithm consists of 3 convolutional and 2 fully connected layers, where softmax is used to discriminate the liver from background. Random Gaussian distribution is used for weight initialization which achieved a distance-preserving-embedding of the information. The proposed network is known as Ga-CNN (Gaussian-weight initialization of CNN). General experiments are performed on three benchmark datasets including MICCAI SLiver’07, 3Dircadb01, and LiTS17. Experimental results show that the proposed method performed well on each benchmark dataset.

According to research, classifiers and detectors are less accurate when images are blurry, have low contrast, or have other flaws which raise questions about the machine learning model’s ability to recognize items effectively. The chest X-ray image has proven to be the preferred image modality for medical imaging as it contains more information about a patient. Its interpretation is quite difficult, nevertheless. The goal of this research is to construct a reliable deep-learning model capable of producing high classification accuracy on chest x-ray images for lung diseases. To enable a thorough study of the chest X-ray image, the suggested framework first derived richer features using an ensemble technique, then a global second-order pooling is applied to further derive higher global features of the images. Furthermore, the images are then separated into patches and position embedding before analyzing the patches individually via a vision transformer approach. The proposed model yielded 96.01% sensitivity, 96.20% precision, and 98.00% accuracy for the COVID-19 Radiography Dataset while achieving 97.84% accuracy, 96.76% sensitivity and 96.80% precision, for the Covid-ChestX-ray-15k dataset. The experimental findings reveal that the presented models outperform traditional deep learning models and other state-of-the-art approaches provided in the literature.

Cyber-attacks are becoming more common against Internet users due to the increasing dependency on online communication in their daily lives. X.509 Public-Key Infrastructure (PKIX) is the most widely adopted and used system to secure online communications and digital identities. However, different attack vectors exist against the PKIX system, which attackers exploit to breach the security of the reliant protocols. Recently, various projects (e.g., Let’s Encrypt and Google Certificate Transparency) have been started to encrypt online communications, fix PKIX vulnerabilities, and guard Internet users against cyber-attacks. This survey focuses on classical PKIX proposals, certificate revocation proposals, and their implementation on blockchain as well as ledger technologies. First, we discuss the PKIX architecture, the history of the World Wide Web, the certificate issuance process, and possible attacks on the certificate issuance process. Second, a taxonomy of PKIX proposals, revocation proposals, and their modern implementation is provided. Then, a set of evaluation metrics is defined for comparison. Finally, the leading proposals are compared using 15 evaluation metrics and 13 cyber-attacks before presenting the lessons learned and suggesting future PKIX and revocation research.

Precise automatic vertebra segmentation in computed tomography (CT) images is important for the quantitative analysis of vertebrae-related diseases but remains a challenging task due to high variation in spinal anatomy among patients. In this paper, we propose a deep learning approach for automatic CT vertebra segmentation named patch-based deep belief networks (PaDBNs). Our proposed PaDBN model automatically selects the features from image patches and then measures the differences between classes and investigates performance. The region of interest (ROI) is obtained from CT images. Unsupervised feature reduction contrastive divergence algorithm is applied for weight initialization, and the weights are optimized by layers in a supervised fine-tuning procedure. The discriminative learning features obtained from the steps above are used as input of a classifier to obtain the likelihood of the vertebrae. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed PaDBN model can considerably reduce computational cost and produce an excellent performance in vertebra segmentation in terms of accuracy compared with state-of-the-art methods.
