A millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna operating at 24 GHz (ISM band), suitable for wearable applications, is proposed in this paper. The proposed MIMO antenna consists of two elements, designed with an edge-to-edge distance of 5.14 mm, backed by a $5\times 5$ cell electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure. The antenna is fabricated on a flexible Rogers 6002 material ( $\epsilon _{r}=$ 2.94 , tan $\delta =$ 0.0012 , thickness = 0.254 mm ). The proposed antenna retains its performance when bent along the x-axis and y-axis. The performance of the antenna in term of s-parameters and radiation properties is studied in free space as well as on a human phantom. Good impedance matching of the antenna at the resonating frequency (24 GHz) is observed when it is bent and when worn on the body. The introduction of the EBG improves the gain by 1.9 dBi, reduces the backward radiation by 8 dB, reduces the power density on the back towards the body from > 200 W/m 2 to < 10 W/m 2 , and also enhances the 10 dB bandwidth by 100 MHz. The antenna possesses a low envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) of 0.24, high diversity gain (DG) of 9.7 dB, reasonable multiplexing efficiency of −0.684 dB and a good peak gain of 6 dBi at 24 GHz. The proposed antenna is suitable for wearable applications at mm-Wave range due to its simple geometry and good performance in bending and on-body worn scenarios.
This paper presents a miniaturized circularly polarized multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna for wearable biotelemetric devices. The proposed MIMO antenna consists of four elements, which are placed orthogonally to the adjacent elements. The proposed antenna has a wideband response [10-dB bandwidth of 2210 MHz (fractional bandwidth (FBW) = 92.08%) in free space and 10-dB bandwidth of 2200 MHz (FBW = 91.66%) when worn on human-body], this frequency range covers the important and unlicensed industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) band (2.40-2.48 GHz). The antenna exhibits a wideband 3-dB circularly polarized bandwidth of 1300 MHz (FBW=54.16%) and 1040 MHz (FBW=43.33%) in free space and when worn on the body, respectively. The optimized antenna in free space (on-body) has an envelop correlation coefficient (ECC) less than 0.21 (0.23), a diversity gain (DG) greater than 9.77 dB (9.71 dB), a multiplexing efficiency (ME) greater than -0.85 dB (-0.63 dB), and a channel capacity loss (CCL) less than 0.13 bps/Hz (0.13 bps/Hz). The stable radiation, high gain, high efficiency, and good MIMO properties in free space and on human-body make the proposed antenna a suitable choice for use in high data wearable biotelemetric devices.

In this paper, a dual-mode dual-band filter based on half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) is presented. The proposed filter has the capability to tune the two pass-bands independently. The proposed filter consists of two HMSIW resonators coupled through a pair of E-shaped coupling slots. Two resonating modes (TE101 and TE102) are excited in each resonator. A varactor diode is used in the proposed filter for tuning purpose. The varactor diode is placed in the structure in such a way that both bands can be tuned independently. The lower passband can be tuned from 3.26 to 3.47 GHz with insertion loss of 0.2-2.9 dB. The higher passband can be tuned from 5.47 to 6.13 GHz with low insertion loss of 0.1-2.1 dB. The presented results show the flexibility of the filter to achieve desired responses and its suitability for integration with any tunable planar structure. A good agreement between the simulated and measured results is observed.

This work propose the design and measurement of tunable, highly selective and wide-stopband microwave filters using substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. A two pole filter is designed using optimized cavity parameters. Two higher order (4-pole) filters are designed by connecting two cavities vertically and horizontally through coupling slots. In this way, four poles are achieved in two cavities, in which the proposed filter produces 2×N poles in N cavities. A varactor diode is employed in both configurations to make the filters tunable. The proposed filters have wide upper stopband performance 20 dB up to 4.8f1 (Filter 1) and 20 dB up to 4.2f1 (Filter 2), lower insertion losses 0.2-1.1 dB (Filter 1) and 0.2-1.5 dB (Filter 2) and good tunability ranges 2.7-3.4 GHz (Filter 1) and 3.1-3.9 GHz (Filter 2). In order to validate the proposed design, a prototype is fabricated on RT/duroid 5870 substrate and measured. The simulated results accord closely with the measured results.

This paper proposes compact and planar substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based filters for single and triple band operations using two quarter-mode SIW (QMSIW) cavities. Two miniaturized QMSIW cavity resonators (QMSIWCRs) are capacitively coupled. Miniaturization in the QMSIWCR is achieved by adding an arc-shaped slot and a rectangular openended stub at the closed-end of the QMSIWCR. In the triple band bandpass filter (BPF), a capacitor is added to the openended side of the stub to enhance impedance matching at the higher modes. It has the centre frequencies of 2.1, 3.98 and 6.6 GHz with an insertion losses (ILs) of 0.93, 0.98, and 1.2 dB at the lower, middle and upper passband, respectively. Moreover, the measured fractional bandwidths (FBWs) are 16.97, 8.77, and 8.42% at the lower, middle and upper passband, respectively. Two rectangular slots are etched on the upper layer of the cavity to suppress the second mode and reduce coupling of the third mode; this realizes a single-band filter with an improved upper stopband response. It has the centre frequency of 2.1 GHz with a wide upper stop-band response, having a rejection level of 20 dB up to 3.19fc. The operation of filter is additionally discussed and verified by means of a lumped element equivalent circuit model and experimental results. The proposed filters are suitable for integration with other planar radio-frequency (RF) components due to their compact sizes, low ILs, planar structures, multiple transmission zeros (TZs) and adequate bandwidths.
