There is growing evidence that agroecology can reconcile the environmental, economic, and social pillars of agricultural sustainability. However, teaching and learning agroecology is challenging, especially since most agricultural graduate programs in Europe are not adapted to teach the diversity of its related practices. To improve agroecology learning, we built the online simulation game SEGAE. This article illustrates the game's relevance for learning agroecology. The game is based on a modeling framework that gamifies the implementation of agroecological practices in an integrated crop-livestock farm and assesses their impacts on sustainability. To do so, SEGAE is based on an output-oriented approach that represents impacts of practices on various indicators. These impacts are included in a matrix, which is associated with a dynamic graphical interface accessible to players. Two examples of game sessions were developed to illustrate the game's potential. In the first example, players can gain knowledge about agroecological practices by implementing practices that improve soil quality and assessing their impacts on sustainability. Results of this example place the farm's improved overall sustainability into perspective with its reduced food production potential. In the second example, players can improve their skills in transition management and acquire a systems approach by converting the farm to organic farming within five years. Results of this example prompt discussion of the steps needed to obtain organic certification and the coherence between crop and animal production needed to foster sustainability. SEGAE was designed to strengthen European training in agroecology, and active contributions from users would help to improve this tool, extend it to new farming systems and forge connections within the community of teachers working on agroecology.

Agroecology represents a pertinent option to improve the sustainability of agriculture. To promote its application, agroecological concepts should be taught to students and professionals in the agricultural sector. However, most agricultural courses are not adapted to teach these concepts due to little interactivity or interdisciplinarity, and a lack of a systems approach to farm management. Serious games help to fill these gaps by simulating complex models in which players can learn by doing. We thus developed a serious computer game, called SEGAE (SErious Game for AgroEcology learning), which represents a mixed crop-livestock farm and assesses impacts of farming practices on indicators related to environmental, economic, and social sustainability. Its pedagogical interest was evaluated through two types of surveys given to university students who played the game during a one-week workshop: A knowledge survey on agroecology, and a feedback survey based on flow theory. Results showed that students increased their knowledge of agroecology significantly, particularly those who had had little knowledge of crop production. More than 86% of the students enjoyed the game, appreciating its interaction and feedback. Thus, SEGAE is an interesting tool to help students acquire knowledge of agroecology in a fun way by facilitating interdisciplinary and collaborative learning.

This paper presents the results of the analysis of thermal issues and energy efficiency of three types of accumulators; namely stone-bed; water and phase change. Research experiments were carried out during April–October 2013 in a standard commercial semi-cylindrical high plastic tunnel with tomato cultivation of 150 m2. A stone-bed accumulator; with an area of almost 75 m2 was installed in the tunnel below ground level; while a water accumulator with a volume of 4 m3 was installed outside the tunnel. A phase change material (PCM) accumulator, with a volume of 1 m3 containing paraffin, was located inside the tunnel. The heat storage capacity of the tested accumulators and the energy efficiency of the process were determined based on the analyses of the 392 stone-bed charging and discharging cycles, the 62 water accumulator charging cycles and close to 40 PCM accumulator charging and discharging cycles. Dependencies in the form of easily measurable parameters; have been established to determine the amount of stored heat; as well as the conditions for which the effectiveness of these processes reaches the highest value. The presented analysis falls under the pro-ecological scope of replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy. As a result of the analysis; it was found that; in the case of a stone-bed; such an accumulator shows higher efficiency at lower parameters; that is, temperature difference and solar radiation intensity. In turn; a higher temperature difference and a higher value of solar radiation intensity are required for the water accumulator. The energy storage efficiency of the PCM accumulator is emphatically smaller and not comparable with either the stone-bed or the water accumulator.

Motivation: Knowledge management is currently one of the most important factors determining the company’s market position. It depends not only on the skilful use of resources, but also on obtaining a synergistic effect. To manage knowledge, managers must possess not only the appropriate resources of knowledge, but also must have determined management structure with the assistance of the IT (information technology) tools.Aim: The purpose of the article was to present how the modern enterprise knowledge management process is supported by information technology. For this purpose, was summarized selected indicators characterizing the use of ICT in various types of enterprises in the country. It assumed that it is important not only the equipment the companies with information technology tools, but also the degree of use of these tools. Results: Usage of ICT in Poland reaches ratios much lower than the average for the European Union. Large differences in the use of information technology occurs in individual groups of companies. Larger companies have reached a much higher degree of saturation of IT tools than smaller objects. For example, the number of Polish enterprises with computers was 94.7%, in the case of large companies it is 99.8%. Even greater discrepancy relates to access to the Internet. You may also notice differences in each province. Introduction of modern technologies related to computer science and computers (eg. cloud computing, big data, social media, e-commerce etc) enables effective knowledge management in companies. The indicators show that the management team appreciates the importance of knowledge and consistently invests for its development.

The objective of the paper is to present methods of evaluation of real estates used for evaluation of agricultural equipment and types of value related thereto. Alina carrot harvester by Waremczuk company served as an example, for which a detailed methodology and the results of valuation were presented. Evaluation was carried out based on two approaches namely a comparative and cost approach. In the case of the comparative approach, the average price adjustment method was used and in the case of the cost approach - a replacement cost method. As a result of using various approaches and methods of evaluation two slightly different values of the evaluated harvester were obtained. It was respectively: EUR16,406 - at the use of the average price adjustment method and EUR 17,678 - the estimated net replacement value in the cost approach for the replacement method.

The original program Nawozy-5 is an application supporting mineral fertilisation. It is intended for small farms that are not equipped with facilities enabling application of precision agriculture and do not use any commercial software for farm management support. Computational algorithms in the program Nawozy-5 make use of the nutrient balance method. The application calculates requirement for nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium and sulphur and then selects particular fertilisers and calculates their quantities. The program is free of charge and available online on the author’s website www.cupial.mcpk.net.

Considering the aspect of the role of information in the development of Polish agriculture, one should pay attention to the existing needs in this field, as well as to the existing support mechanisms stimulating the activity of the agricultural producers’ community in obtaining professional information in the form of e.g. consulting or the use of the training offered. At the same time, it should be noted that often the barrier in keeping abreast is not the lack of activity on the part of producers, but the cost associated with it. That is why it is so important to initiate actions, which, on the one hand, serve boosting the efforts of agricultural producers to seek professional knowledge (information), and on the other hand, creating the possibility of compensation for costs incurred in this respect. Given the above, the main objective of this paper is the analysis of the level of implementation of the measures implemented under the Rural Development Programme 2007–2013. The study takes into account the farmers’ computer equipment level and access to the Internet compared to other social groups. Analysis of the distribution of funds to each voivodship showed that the allocation of funds was uneven, and this applied to all analysed measures. In the most part, agricultural producers already have the necessary information infrastructure, but its use is insufficient.

In order to systematize the effects achieved through investment in machinery park of the farm, new indexes were developed: index of information technological modernization (ITM) and index of tractors’ replacement (ITR). These indexes allow for the assessment of changes in production technology related to the modernization of machinery park and innovation of farms. Studies have showed that the most innovative farms, for which ITM index was established at three (ITM = 3), are those farms that are characterized by the largest area and simultaneously best equipped with various systems.
