The uptake of electric vehicles (EV) is increasing every year and will eventually replace the traditional transport system in the near future. This imminent increase is urging stakeholders to plan up-gradation in the electric power system infrastructure. However, for efficient planning to support an additional load, an accurate assessment of the electric vehicle load and power quality indices is required. Although several EV models to estimate the charging profile and additional electrical load are available, but they are not capable of providing a high-resolution evaluation of charging current, especially at a higher frequency. This paper presents a probabilistic approach capable of estimating the time-dependent charging and harmonic currents for the future EV load. The model is based on the detailed travel activities of the existing car owners reported in the travel survey. The probability distribution functions of departure time, distance, arrival time, and time span are calculated. The charging profiles are based on the measurements of several EVs.

To simultaneously suppress the periodic and aperiodic disturbances experienced by permanent magnet synchronous motors in model predictive control, a model-free predictive current control with adaptive resonance control based on an ultra-local model is proposed. Firstly, the ultra-local models of the speed loop and the current loop are established respectively, and the unmodeled and uncertain unknown part F in the ultra-local model is estimated by using a high-order fast terminal sliding mode observer, and its stability is analyzed. Then, an adaptive resonant controller (ARC) is designed to suppress the periodic disturbance caused by the dead zone effect. The ARC and the model-free control based on the ultra-local model are combined to compensate for their respective shortcomings, achieving the suppression of periodic and aperiodic disturbances in the system. Finally, by comparing with the traditional duty cycle model predictive control and the model-free model predictive control without ARC, the proposed scheme is proved to be robust to periodic and aperiodic disturbances.

A problem of the switched reluctance drive is its natural torque pulsations, which are partially solved with finite control set model predictive control strategies. However, the continuous control set model predictive control, required for precise torque stabilization and predictable power converter behavior, needs sufficient computation resources, thus limiting its practical implementation. The proposed model predictive control strategy utilizes offline processing of the magnetization surface of the switched reluctance motor. This helps to obtain precalculated current references for each torque command and rotor angular position in the offline mode. In online mode, the model predictive control strategy implements the current commands using the magnetization surface for fast evaluation of the required voltage command for the power converter. The proposed strategy needs only two lookup table operations requiring very small computation time, making instant execution of the whole control system possible and thereby minimizing the control delay. The proposed solution was examined using a simulation model, which showed precise and rapid torque stabilization below rated speed.

Renewables have passed the peak of the inflated expectation hype cycle for emerging technologies, but interest in the design of new energy conversion devices is still high due to widespread distributed energy systems for private households. Magnus effect-based wind turbine combines mechanical and electronic engineering that provides a broader wind speed range and potential maximum power point tracking for deeper grid integration. This paper provides a comparative analysis of Magnus effect-based wind turbine simulation models and the development of the numerical model for the maximum power point tracking algorithm. The advanced model contributes to the reduction of the number of actual tests required for the mechatronics system tuning and deals with sustainability-related challenges, such as climate change and the development of new renewable sources of energy.

This paper presents an algorithm of fuzzy adaptive PID controller and addresses its application in vibration suppression of a two mass rotating system. In a performance comparison between the proposed controller strategy and a classical PID control scheme extensive simulations confirmed the superiority of the proposed fuzzy adaptive controller. The results show that accurate tracking performance of the servo-drive system with two-mass load has been achieved.

To rapidly and accurately establish the model of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) and enhance torque control performance, this paper proposes a model predictive torque control (MPTC) strategy based on the optimized voltage vector. First, a fourth-order Fourier series is used to calculate the flux and torque models, and a complete nonlinear model of the SRM is constructed using the Kriging model. Second, the torque characteristics are used to divide the sectors, thereby reducing the number of candidate voltage vectors (CVVs) and effectively decreasing the computational burden of predictive control. Finally, an adaptive adjustment algorithm for the sector boundary angle is proposed, where the position of the sectors is determined based on variations in speed and load. The proposed method reduces torque ripple and enhances dynamic response capability. The effectiveness of this approach is validated through experiments on a 12/10 pole six-phase SRM prototype.
