The aim of this paper is to derive an equation for the temperature distribution in journal bearing oil film, in order to predict the thermal load of a bearing. This is very important for the prevention of critical regimes in a bearing operation. To achieve the goal, a partial differential equation of the temperature field was first derived, starting from the energy equation coupled with the Reynolds equation of hydrodynamic lubrication for a short bearing of symmetric geometry. Then, by solving the equation analytically, the function of temperature distribution in the bearing oil film has been obtained. The solution is applied to the journal bearing, for which the experimental data are available in the references. Finally, the obtained results have been compared to the corresponding experimental values for two operating regimes, and a good level of agreement was achieved.

Mechanisms of machines completing a repeating operation have many applications in the processing industry. During the working cycle, the output link of the mechanism has one or more periods of dwell, while the input link moves continuously. The paper presents the graphical synthesis of 6-bar linkage mechanism with high class structure groups. The procedure is based on the synthesis at the extreme positions of the mechanism, simplifying the task to a problem with a finite number of precise positions. At the core of this procedure are simple, easily visible and understandable geometric constructions that are then used to form equations suitable for further analysis and optimization. Motion of the mechanism resulting from the synthesis has some inaccuracy - the output link moves during the dwell phase, completing an angle of ±0.5°, which is considered accurate enough for a wide range of practical applications.

This paper presents description and thermodynamic analysis of a new thermodynamic cycle. Realization of this new cycle is possible to achieve with valveless internal combustion engine with more complete expansion. The main purpose of this new IC engine is to increase engines’ thermal efficiency. The engine was designed so that the thermodynamic changes of the working fluid are different than in conventional engines. Specific differences are reflected in a more complete expansion of the working fluid (the expansion stroke is larger than compression stroke), valveless gas flowing and complete discharge of residual combustion products from the combustion chamber. In this concept, the movement of the piston is different than in conventional piston mechanisms. The results obtained herein include the efficiency characteristics of irreversible reciprocating new engine cycle which is very similar to Miller cycle. The results show that with this thermodynamic cycle engine has higher efficiency than with the standard Otto cycle. In this article, the patent application material under number 2008/607 at the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia was used.

From an ecological aspect, the hydrogen has all properties to be a very good fuel for internal combustion engines. However the high combustion speed, as well as the possibility of backfire, is inconvenient properties of port injection. In this paper, the influence of the injection timing on the internal combustion engine working cycle parameters (pressure and temperature) was investigated deeply. The investigation, of the injection timing influence on the internal combustion engine working cycle parameters, was performed numerically by application of ANSYS software. It was observed the geometry of the real engine with added pre chamber, in order of layer mixture formation and pressure damping, because of high combustion speed. The results are presented for four cases with different injection timing and the same spark timing. By earlier injection, the time for mixing rise as well as the possibility of homogenization and uniform mixture creation, in pre chamber and cylinder. This claim it is confirmed on the basis of obtaining pressure and pressure rise gradient, which are growing with earlier injection, because of hydrogen combustion characteristics in stoichiometric mixture. The higher pressures as well as the surface under the diagram are positive from the aspect of the engine efficiency. However, with the earlier injection, the values of the pressure rise gradient are higher than for the classic Diesel engine. This means that this phenomena can cause brutal engine work from the aspect of mechanical stresses. However the value of the maximum pressure is smaller than this in a Diesel engine, this is due to added pre chamber, which has decreased the compression ratio.

The paper describes the concept of a new internal combustion engine. Presented IC engine concept possesses a variable displacement, variable compression ratio, combustion at constant volume, improved intake and exhaust processes, as well as more complete expansion of the working fluid. A comparison of some performance of this new concept with conventional IC engine and electric motors is provided. The results indicate that the performance of IC engine can still be improved. The achieved efficiency of the engine is over 40%. The Ricardo Wave program was used for simulating the characteristics of the engine. CAD model of concept engine was made with CATIA V5.
