Lachezar Filchev received his B.Sc. in Geography (2000-2004) from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, followed by an M.Sc. in Physical Geography and Landscape Ecology (2004-2006) from the same university. He also holds a Ph.D. in Remote Sensing of the Earth and Planets (2007-2012) from the Space Research and Technology Institute, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (SRTI-BAS). He worked as a Cartographer at the Space Research Institute – BAS (SRI-BAS) from 2006 to 2007. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014 and Head of Department in 2019 at what is now referred to as the Space Research and Technology Institute – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (SRTI-BAS). His research topics mainly include the following: hyperspectral remote sensing, field spectrometry, geographical information systems (GISs), landscape ecology, environmental management, and cartography. He was a National Representative at the GEO High Level Working Group (HLWG) and an Alternate at the Copernicus User Forum (CUF) at EC.
