Modern wheelchairs, with advanced and robotic technologies, could not reach the life of millions of disabled people due to their high costs, technical limitations, and safety issues. This paper proposes a gesture-controlled smart wheelchair system with an IoT-enabled fall detection mechanism to overcome these problems. It can recognize gestures using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model along with computer vision algorithms and can control the wheelchair automatically by utilizing these gestures. It maintains the safety of the users by performing fall detection with IoT-based emergency messaging systems. The development cost of the overall system is cheap and is lesser than USD 300. Hence, it is expected that the proposed smart wheelchair should be affordable, safe, and helpful to physically disordered people in their independent mobility.

Robot navigation in indoor environments has become an essential task for several applications, including situations in which a mobile robot needs to travel independently to a certain location safely and using the shortest path possible. However, indoor robot navigation faces challenges, such as obstacles and a dynamic environment. This paper addresses the problem of social robot navigation in dynamic indoor environments, through developing an efficient SLAM-based localization and navigation system for service robots using the Pepper robot platform. In addition, this paper discusses the issue of developing this system in a way that allows the robot to navigate freely in complex indoor environments and efficiently interact with humans. The developed Pepper-based navigation system has been validated using the Robot Operating System (ROS), an efficient robot platform architecture, in two different indoor environments. The obtained results show an efficient navigation system with an average localization error of 0.51 m and a user acceptability level of 86.1%.

Substitution boxes are the key factor in symmetric-key cryptosystems that determines their ability to resist various cryptanalytic attacks. Creating strong substitution boxes that have multiple strong cryptographic properties at the same time is a challenging task for cryptographers. A significant amount of research has been conducted on S-boxes in the past few decades, but the resulting S-boxes have been found to be vulnerable to various cyberattacks. This paper proposes a new method for creating robust S-boxes that exhibit superior performance and possess high scores in multiple cryptographic properties. The hybrid S-box method presented in this paper is based on Chua’s circuit chaotic map, two-dimensional cellular automata, and an algebraic permutation group structure. The proposed 16×16 S-box has an excellent performance in terms of security parameters, including a minimum nonlinearity of 102, the absence of fixed points, the satisfaction of bit independence and strict avalanche criteria, a low differential uniformity of 5, a low linear approximation probability of 0.0603, and an auto-correlation function of 28. The analysis of the performance comparison indicates that the proposed S-box outperforms other state-of-the-art S-box techniques in several aspects. It possesses better attributes, such as a higher degree of inherent security and resilience, which make it more secure and less vulnerable to potential attacks.

Polynomial multiplications based on the number theoretic transform (NTT) are critical in lattice-based post-quantum cryptography algorithms. Therefore, this paper presents a platform-agnostic unified hardware accelerator design (Unif-NTT) to compute the forward and inverse operations of the NTT for the CRYSTALS-Kyber algorithm. Moreover, a unified design (Unif-BU) of the Cooley-Tukey and Gentleman-Sande butterflies is presented using two adders, multipliers, subtractors, routing multiplexers and barret-based modular reduction units. Finally, a dedicated controller is implemented for efficient control functionalities. The implementation results are realized on field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) platforms. The Unif-NTT requires 1664 and 1792 clock cycles for one forward and inverse NTT computations, respectively. It can operate up to a maximum frequency of $212MHz$ and $2.5GHz$ over Virtex-7 FPGA and 28nm ASIC platforms, respectively. The Unif-NTT is 26% more efficient in Area-Time-Product compared to the most area-optimized NTT accelerator from the state-of-the-art. The Unif-NTT design is suited for applications that demand reasonable hardware resources with processing speed.

Wireless body area networks ( WBAN ) are essential components of intelligent healthcare monitoring techniques. Especially, when the number and datatype in WBAN increases. In WBAN , secure multidimensional data aggregation received a lot of attention. However, the related schemes consume more computational and communication overhead to encrypt/decrypt the multidimensional health reports. In this paper, a blockchain-assisted scalable and secure multidimensional data aggregation scheme is introduced for fog-based WBAN . The multidimensional health data are efficiently generated, encrypted, and decrypted by using the Paillier cryptosystem. Further, the batch verification method is used to achieve efficient authentication. The proposed system offers significant security attributes with less computation and communication overhead in comparison with competing systems. Further, it supports statistical analyses such as summation and variance to analyze the received health report.
